Switch on for Sunlight

With houses growing smaller, and buildings occupying land with much more density than ever, it’s sometimes rather difficult to get that beautiful view, or even that golden touch of sunlight to brighten your room and your mood. That one feeling of being hit by a ray of sunlight, or seen your window’s shadow cast on the opposite wall is a rather beautiful one, and the fact that we now have products that replicate that feeling, simulating it almost, is almost painfully beautiful. Reveal, by Adam Frank (known for his works with light and shadows), is a lamp that much like the Komorebi projector, creates a beautiful shadow on a wall. Rather than just simply illuminating a space, the Reveal illuminates a space in a certain meaningful way, casting a light-painting of what it would feel like to have direct sunlight pass through a regular, arched, or even ornate Arabesque window. The lamp even mimics air currents to add a tiny hint of movement in the reflection, mimicking the effect of a light breeze, making your projection look almost real. The Reveal also plays around with greenery, creating a blurred penumbra of what feel like very realistic looking tree branches that add a layer of beauty and believability to the lamp!

The Life-Saving Window

x_space_1

After the disaster at Grenfell Tower in London, the X-Space should be developed as a mandatory addition to every home. It forms a robust and safe bubble outside the building during a fire. Occupying the space of a window when closed, the X-Space works like an ordinary window when needed, but in the case of an emergency, can be opened out like a bellow into a safe, fire-retardant personal space. The minute you open the emergency hatch, it notifies the fire-fighting department. The window is even lined with emergency lights that can alert people nearby.

The construction of the X-Space is lightweight, but can take the weight of 2 adults, or an adult and 2 kids. Houses with larger families can easily install 2 or more X-Spaces in their apartments. The space provides a smoke and fire free temporary haven for victims, while even allowing them to be evacuated easily via an escape window that firefighters can open from the outside.

The X-Space Window is a winner of the A’ Design Award in the Social Design Category.

Phone-Charging Curtains!

solarblind_01

The Solar Blind is one of those designs that’ll make you wonder… “Hey, why didn’t I think of that?!”. This design transforms everyday blinds into a multifunctional, efficient way to harness the sun’s energy. Whether it’s at home, the office, or even in a coffee shop, users can tap right into clean electricity to power and charge their devices.

Solar cells are attached to each slat on the blind, creating an entire system that’s capable of storing and converting solar energy into electrical power. While large roof-mounted solar panels can be expensive and difficult to install, Solar Blinds only require a window to absorb solar energy and generate power.
