Can ‘Warcraft’ break the curse of the video game movie?

There's a special place in cinema hell for video game movies. From 1993's cringeworthy Super Mario Bros. -- a high-profile abomination that even Nintendo wants to forget -- to the basic-cable-worthy schlock that was Mortal Kombat and even the underwh...

World of Warcraft Now Lets You Mine Gold to Pay for Game Time

Despite being over 10 years old, World of Warcraft is still one of the most popular MMO games on the planet, even if it might not be quite as popular today as it used to be. One of the things that gamers tend to do in the game is simply spend time mining for gold to buy better virtual stuff.

Blizzard has now announced a new scheme that will let players fund their gaming passion using the virtual gold they mine in the game. Using that virtual gold, players can buy WoW tokens from the auction house. Those tokens can then be redeemed for 30 days of game time.

This new feature makes mining gold and playing WoW a self-fulfilling prophecy. Players can mine gold to pay for game time to mine more gold.

I’m Guessing He Is Single: WoW Player Completes All 2057 Game Achievements

This accomplishment must have cost this guy his sanity. You see those stats? Those are the stats for the first person known to have unlocked all of the 2057 achievements currently available in World of Warcraft. This is a nerd first. It is one small step for nerd and one giant step for nerd-kind.

The first person to accomplish this crazy task goes by the name of Xnpyko. Believe it or not, there are several runners up who are very close to completing these as well. Those other players are hot on his heels, as you can see in the rankings below from WoWProgress. Even if they do it, Xnpyko will go down in history as the first.

SteelSeries shows off new WoW wireless mouse, cache of corded rodents and a headset at E3

SteelSeries shows off new WoW wireless mouse, cache of corded rodents and a headset at E3

This time last year, SteelSeries showed us a headset and mouse meant for Diablo III, but at E3 2012, the company showed us a bunch of goodies. The highlight is the inaugural SteelSeries cordless offering, aptly named the World of Warcraft wireless mouse, which sports a themed skin and glowing white runes and logo on the palmrest (at least that's the plan, the prototype unit we saw didn't light up). Similarly, the charging base is studded in true Azeroth style and ringed in blue runes to let you know when it's powered up, plus it can be connected to your computer via microUSB if you want to play and charge simultaneously. It's PC and Mac compatible, comes with 11 programmable buttons, and once you've given it 60 minutes to fill its tank, you'll get up to 16 hours of continuous, intensive game play. It's set for a release in the latter half of this year and will cost $129.

Along with the WoW model, we also got to see the gunmetal grey MLG edition Sensei and a pair of special-edition Kana mice -- for Dota 2 and CounterStrike: Global Offensive -- each uniquely skinned in the style of their namesake games. To go along with the CS:GO rodent, there's an accompanying headset (a Siberia v2 with a camo paint job) as well. Rounding things out is a GuildWars 2 branded headset and Sensei mouse. The stereo headset is the on-ear variety, and its flexible white frame can be folded down during travel. A 3.5mm input resides at the base of each earcup, and the open jack can be used to connect another set of headphones to share your audio with a friend. The headset's priced at $100, while the mouse will retail for $70 and will land on store shelves when Guildwars 2 is released.

Arris reveals Moxi DVR release 2.0 with web browser, apps and iPad remote

If your cable company is offering Arris' Moxi Whole Home DVR setup (we've seen it pop up on Shaw, BendBroadband and Wide Open West so far) you should have a few new features headed your way. This week at the NCTA Cable Show 2012 it's debuting Moxi software release 2.0 which adds in a WebKit-based browser, downloadable apps and an appstore the TV provider can customize itself, as well as APIs and SDKs aplenty to bring in third party developers. With the SDK, other companies can pair mobile devices and build in remotes or stream content, while Arris is also showing off its own iPad app (images after the break) for remote DVR scheduling. Unfortunately, we're told these upgrades won't trickle down to owners of Moxi's retail DVRs, but considering how close they came to total deactivation, we're not that surprised.
