A Camera as Beautiful as its Subjects

img_01

If ever a camera deserved to be photographed, it’s this one. This pretty little point-and-shoot by designer Abidur Chowdhury looks to tactility, depth and personalization to define its aesthetic.

Thanks to a removable textile covering, it’s capable of being completely customized. Now, artists can define not only their photography content but also their personal style with hardware to match. Its equipped with a variety of zoom and prime lenses which are also available in different color options for further personalization. The rest of the body is composed of a technical ceramic called steatite, a highly specialized material with qualities often associated with soapstone. Aside from the stunning visual presented by this unusual material combination, the resulting tactile experience feels entirely natural as if one were grabbing stone or an organic skin.

Hammering Home a New Design Language

instrumentum_15

Moving away from the more over-designed, intimidating and aggressive design language of modern household tools, Abidur Chowdhury has designed revolutionized the image of the conventional DIY tools. Chowdhury believes there is a “lack of consistency between both the hammer head and handle.” It’s this disconnected design aesthetic which creates an intimidating perception for the user whose primary use of the device might only last a handful of seconds at a time.

Turning this design language on its head, Chowdhury designed a more approachable set of tools. Burying the typically inconsistent designs of previous tools, Instrumentum carries elements that are visually consistent, soft and desirable to use, hold, and display. Smartly designed, the split within the head of the hammer dissipates the energy and reduces the impact being transferred into the user’s hands. Visually stimulating and made to appease any onlooker, Instrumentum strips the tool of any intimidation and invites a visually welcoming language from every angle. Abidur Chowdhury has hit the nail on the head with this one.

Guilt-free Tea

ferv_01

It might not seem like a lot, but an incredible amount of energy is wasted in keeping water hot after its been boiled. Rather than boil, re-boil and repeat just to enjoy a little tea, turn to Ferv! This insulated kettle keeps water piping hot for up to 4 hours so there’s no need to keep reheating. Better yet, it has a smart user-interface located directly on the top of the lid that communicates temperature and on/off functionality to the user.
