Sand-inspired Flatware

The name Dune echoes the shape of this modern flatware – in each piece the straight handle leads to a curvy transition that resembles a sand dune with subtle ridges and soft linear transitions. The aluminum flatware set is also inspired by experimental cuisine and molecular gastronomy: a culinary research lab that seeks to explore the technical, artistic and social aspects of cooking. In Dune the experimental aspect of food design appears both in the structure of the set and in the materials. The traditional flatware collection has evolved in to a more modern “personal flatware set” with a contemporary look and feel. The aluminum makes this flatware ultra-light and much sleeker than steel or titanium flatware, while the anodized finishing makes it extremely durable and easy-to-clean.

A Better Cut

You have to credit the simplicity that the Fusion Kitchen Knives exude. A literal mix of East and West, Industrial design and craftsmanship, the knife set blend in the common language of design and tell the story. Handmade in Kyoto as a limited edition by Japanese artist- craftsman Issei Hanaoka, these knives are inspired by the traditional Japanese art of wood crafting and they have a minimalist design: extremely simple yet modern and universal.

  • An ergonomic handle for slip-resistant ultra-comfort grip.
  • Available in two sizes and two types of blade: serrated, ideal for bread, and non-serrated, ideal for cheese, fruit, and desserts.
  • Thanks to their ultra-fine edge, the knives are extremely sharp but also easy to sharpen.
  • For the packaging, the traditional Japanese boxes “kiribako” have been re-defined according to Italian design where shape is driven by purpose.

iPhone Metal Advantage

As Andrea explains it, the Ag++ Metal Bumper for the iPhone 5 is an aluminium case shaped from a solid aerospace aluminum block by state-of-the-art CNC machinery. Needless to say the case is ultra-shock absorbing and ultra-bend and twist resistant. One of the main complaints I have heard from iPhone 5 (Black Version Only), users is the way the back case’s color scratches off. Either they have used it rough, which I doubt, or it’s an Apple thing. In any case, superior protecting using gears like the Ag++ Metal Bumper is wise.

Ag++ Aluminum iPhone Case: Metal Goodness

What is is about aluminum that works so well with iOS devices? Maybe because Apple’s other industrial designs like unibody case of the MacBook Pro translates so nicely for accessories as well. If you’re thinking about an aluminum case for your iPhone, check out the Ag++ case, created by designer Andrea Ponti.

The Ag++ is made out of aluminum, and it’s a bumper case for your iPhone. It’s made up of two parts, that are screw-locked together. The case is made out of shock absorbent aircraft-grade aluminum, that weighs only 16 grams. The case is available in glossy, matte, or gloss/matte combo in the following colors: silver-gray, silver-orange, or silver-blue. The case also includes carbon fiber patterned back skins in both silver and black, but you can always skip that if you prefer the standard iPhone back plate.
