LEGO Klingon Bird of Prey Hates Federation Minifigs

Give a geek some LEGO and great things happen. Kevin J. Walter is one such geek who loves to build awesome things with the versatile building blocks. This awesome thing is a Klingon Bird of Prey and it took 25,000 blocks to build. The design is based on a blueprint he made way back in 2008.

That original concept needed 250,000 bricks, but this pared back version uses a tenth of that number. It still looks awesome. It measures about 71 cm (~28″) long, 42 cm (~16.5″) wide, and 86 cm (~33.8″) wide. Construction took about a year and a half using a bunch of parts form Bricklink.

Apparently the guns are made using parts from Bilbo Baggins’ front door. I don’t know why I find that so amusing. The finished Bird of Prey is very detailed and awesome. Check out more pics and the original blueprints over on Kevin’s Flickr page.

Bird of Prey Bike: Ride like an Eagle

The way we ride bikes now is to just sit there, peddling, hunched forward. When you think about it, it’s kind of unnatural. If this Bird of Prey bike takes off, people will be riding bikes in a whole new way though.

This bicycle has its riders leaning all the way forward, legs stretched out, flying more than riding. Your hips and elbows are fully supported with leather pads. The position apparently has some advantages, like increased agility through a lower center of gravity, an improved aerodynamic profile, and increased power production.

This bike was created by California-based architect John Aldridge. It’s been in the works since 1991, and now it is time for it to soar. Right now it costs $8,500(USD), but hopefully the price will drop if it catches on.
