Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Range Is Unveiled in Leaked Images

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1

Even though the new range of Samsung Galaxy tablets is yet to be officially launched, images of all the three products appeared this week on Twitter, thanks to @evleaks.

Samsung may not have made many changes in terms of design, but the hardware from “under the hood” and the software that comes with the new Galaxy Tab 4 devices helps customers see clearly that the South Korean company made a lot of progress. Fortunately, Samsung doesn’t have the design problem Apple had with its various iPhones that looked the same from one year to another. The manufacturer used the classic three-button design that insures maximum functionality on all Android tablets and smartphones. However, Samsung decided to keep the hardware Home button, while making the other two capacitative.

As mentioned before, the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 range will include three different models, the main thing setting them apart being the size of the screen. They have code-names, depending on the size, as follows:

  • Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 – Degas
  • Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 – Millet
  • Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 – Matisse

Unlike other tablet manufacturers, Samsung proves to have a lot of inspiration when comes to choosing names for its products. The painter names that the company picked for the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 tablets are more than a nice touch.

When it comes to the technical specs, there aren’t many differences between the three models. All of them will come with a 1.2GHz (most probably quad-core) CPU and Android 4.4 KitKat, as well as 3GB of DDR3 RAM and a 1280×800 display. That’s not exactly mind-blowing, but such a configuration will face no problems when it comes to multitasking or extreme gaming, no matter how demanding the apps are.

As far as connectivity goes, the three tablets will feature 4G LTE, 3G and Wi-Fi in various combinations. The black Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 also has an earpiece, suggesting the possibility of making calls using the device.

The hardware is not the only thing that will make a difference between the current generation of Samsung Galaxy tablets and the previous one. Some of leaked images suggest that that the new Galaxy Tab devices will come pre-loaded with Samsung Hub, Hancom Office, E-Meeting, WebEX and Remote PC software.

The South Korean company complied a while ago to reduce the amount of bloatware that comes installed on its devices from the factory, but if the aforementioned apps would have to go as well, there wouldn’t be much there left to differentiate Samsung from all the other manufacturers.

LG G Pad 8.3 Leaks, Sports Verizon Branding

LG G Pad 8.3 @evleaks

Verizon seems ready to expand its tablet portfolio by adding the yet to be released LG G Pad 8.3, which has already made an appearance on the Internet, thanks to @evleaks.

Evan Nelson Blass, better known as phone leaker @evleaks on Twitter, revealed in one of his recent posts how the LG G Pad 8.3 will look like. This year definitely seems to be the year of 8-inch tablets, as Samsung has the Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 in store for us, Asus is reportedly working on an Intel-powered 8-inch Nexus and LG prepares to launch the G Pad 8.3.

Verizon’s history with tablets isn’t that great, however. The red carrier only added the LTE Nexus 7 to its offer this Thursday, as until then it didn’t even allow customers to activate the LTE version of Asus and Google’s tablet on its network. A 37MB update was pushed to the LTE Nexus 7 in order to make it fully compatible with Verizon’s network. It should be noted that The Big Red will also add the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition and the Samsung Galaxy NotePro to its offer in the upcoming weeks.

Back to the LG G Pad 8.3, though, its specs are quite good, but not exactly high-end. This Android tablet is supposed to come with a 8.3-inch display with 1920 x 1200 pixels, a quad-core Snapdragon 600 running at 1.7Ghz paired with an Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. There are no details on whether the storage can be furthermore expanded via a microSD card. Its thirst for energy should be easily quenched by the 4,600 mAh battery. The G Pad 8.3 will sport two cameras, a 5 MP one in the back for photos and videos, as well as a 1.3 MP front-facing camera for video calls. The tablet features support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 LE.

Android device manufacturers are known to deliver their high-end products with the latest version of Google’s mobile OS, and the G Pad 8.3 makes no exception. LG will offer Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, and future updates should be delivered promptly.

Neither Verizon, nor LG commented on when the G Pad 8.3 will be launched, but given that the leaked image and technical specs come from @evleaks, there shouldn’t be any doubts regarding the existence of this tablet. Still, it’s great to see that the market diversifies and the carriers are not reluctant about expanding their offer of tablets.

Leak hints at iPhone 5c and 5s variants for Boost Mobile

Leak hints at iPhone 5c and 5s for Boost Mobile

Apple offers iPhones through both large and small US carriers these days, but it has so far given Boost Mobile the cold shoulder. That may soon change, however -- @evleaks has just leaked ads hinting that Boost will get the iPhone 5c and 5s in the near future. While the images don't reveal any launch dates or pricing, they suggest that both smartphones will be eligible for the provider's "shrinking" unlimited rates. The expansion isn't all that crucial given the upcoming 5c and 5s launches through Virgin Mobile, but it doesn't hurt to have another option for low-cost iPhone service.

Extra-large Nokia Lumia 1520 surfaces in press image

Nokia Lumia 1520 press image surfaces

Want a clear look at Nokia's Lumia 1520 (aka Bandit)? You may just have it. After posting a screen capture earlier in the week, @evleaks has released what's reportedly a press image of the super-sized, 1080p Windows Phone. The render largely matches what we've seen before, including the additional Live Tiles on the home screen, but the back is new. It suggests that there will be a Lumia 925-style camera hump -- sorry, no 41-megapixel sensor here -- along with aesthetics borrowed from other members of the Lumia family. There's no guarantee that this image is real, but we won't be surprised if it accurately represents Nokia's last flagship before Microsoft takes the reins.

Moto X could have price slashed to $100 by Christmas, $50 for wooden covers

Motorola's Moto X could cost $100 by end of the year, $50 for wooden covers

When Motorola announced it's first flagship since becoming part of Google's empire, it was to mixed response. But, if evleaks is right, as is often the case, then a forthcoming $100 price-drop could suddenly change a few minds. Currently, the customizable phone, that listens to your every word, will set you back $199 on your network of choice, so a drop to $100 on contract -- reportedly just in time for Christmas -- could see this rise up the gift lists. Oh, and those wooden covers? Our leaker claims will come with a $50 price tag, for those that want the natural look this winter.
