Super Mario World “The Athlete’s Rag” Theme Played on Eight Floppy Drives

Anyone who has spent any amount of time playing Super Mario World knows the music by heart, so you’ll recognize this tune. Anand Jain a.k.a. “MrSolidSnake745” has created a neat version of “The Athlete’s Rag” theme song from the game using his popular band of eight floppy drives.

Catchy tune no? Still don’t recognize it? You can check out the original version in the second video. You’ve probably heard Jain’s other tunes played via floppy drive and if you want even more, Jain is currently raising funds on Patreon to keep this series of videos going.

At least someone is still putting those old floppy drives to good use.

Eight floppy drives recreate the theme from Game of Thrones, stake claim to the seven Kingdoms

Eight floppy drives recreate the theme from Game of Thrones, stake claim to the seven Kingdoms

Should the robots ever form an alliance and turn against us, all we need to do is call on people like Anand Jin to save us. Why? Because it's folk of his ilk that are the pied pipers of the machine world. We've seen disk drives coerced into recreating Daft Punk, and Bo-Rhap extorted from an Atari 800XL. Now, we can watch the aforementioned Anand eke the theme from Game of Thrones out of eight floppy drives. There's more info on his YouTube channel if you're curious to know the hows and whys. James Bond Theme Played on Floppy Drives: Double-Sided, Double-Density, 007

If you enjoy music and have a bunch of old floppy drives lying around, why not turn them into an instrument of sorts. For instance, you’ve probably always wanted to hear the James Bond theme played by some old floppy drives, right? Well, here is your chance to see and hear it.

Bond ThemeIn this video you will see not one, not two, not even a trio of old floppy drives playing the 007 theme, but eight. This project was built for display at Purdue University for the Association of Electrical Technologists club during their Technology Week.

It sounds awesome. In fact, it’s exactly how I imagine a cyberpunk James Bond theme would sound. There isn’t anything floppy about this tune. Put this in the new Bond movie now! It could be the work of some laughing DIY villain and is the perfect way to start the movie.
