This foldable e-bike adapts to your ever-changing style quotient

Electric bikes are the present and long-standing future of sensible commuting in cities, there’s no denying the fact. While some e-bike designs fall right in sync with the trending styles, some can be a bit too radical for the masses.

How practical an electric bike design is, also matters if you as a manufacturer want to create affinity in the highly competitive market. With all this in mind, Polish start-up, Buzzy Bike has come up with an interesting solution keeping in mind all the vital deciding factors for a successful stint.

Designer: Buzzy Bike

The primary consideration for the design of this folding electric bike is the personal touch to add the emotional element of connection with your ride. This electric commuter gives the rider the perfect opportunity to express themselves with the ability to toggle the frame color and finish options. Other details of the bike including the wide tires, shock absorbers, seat post, carbon drive belt and the aluminum basket can also be draped in matching colors for a dynamic look.

The Buzzy bike is also available in a folding version, wherein the whole aluminum frame folds into half the size for space-saving and ease of transportation. To trigger the folding mechanism, simply use the attached key – no hassles guaranteed. The bike can be loaded with a variety of battery packs to achieve a range of 200 km on a single charge. You can also add more powerful battery packs that deliver 750W and 48V voltage.

The chunky 20’ wheels paired with the 80mm wide aluminum rim with the integrated HUB motor is the perfect combo. Replacing the spokes with aluminum rims eliminates the need to center and tighten them, which is another advantage. The overall muscular stance of the e-bike makes it appealing to the young generation who are early adopters, and the compactness for easy storage is an important perk.

Gocycle’s GXi is a folding e-bike with few equals

Gocycle doesn't have the history to match cycling giants like Trek, Raleigh and Bianchi. In the folding e-bike space, however, it's one of the oldest contenders. Karbon Kinetics, the company behind the brand, was founded in 2002 and launched its firs...

Uni Micro Electric Folding Bike: Small, But Packed with Features

Most electric bikes are lacking in features, except of course for the most obvious one, that being that it’s an electric bike. Well, have a look at the Uni Micro Electric Folding Bike. It has a retro vibe, but with some cleaner, modern lines. Unlike other folding bikes, this one has a single tubular frame rather than a frame that folds in half. Instead, only its handlebars fold down, which still mean it’s pretty compact.

It does pack in a lot of bells and whistles though. It has an integrated smartphone holder, USB port, LCD readout, front and rear LED lights in the frame, cargo rack with wheels for vertical parking, rear wheel lock with Bluetooth-enabled and GPS tracking and alarm, and a bottle holder to round it all out. Not bad for a bike this small.

It can be outfitted with a hand throttle, or pedal-assist functionality, and its top speed can be between 15 to 25 mph, with an estimated range of 31 to 43 miles from the 36V, 10.6 Ah lithium-ion battery in the frame. Not bad at all for a small mini bicycle.

This bike is expected to hit Indiegogo soon for $799 for early birds. You can get notified when it goes live.

The One Button Bike

bike_00

1 button. That’s all it takes to set the PLOOI bike into motion to fold! A button under the handlebar pulls two hinge points to disconnect the bike into two parts, enabling it to resize for carrying in tight spaces. A 200 watt electric motor in combination with a battery pack provides assistance to the user for at least an additional 12 miles. Equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, the foldable bike also communicates vitals such as speed, battery status and navigation via an app to the users smartphone. Next to totally autonomy, it’s the easiest folding electric bike yet!

A Twist (rather, slide) on the Folding Bike

somerset-01

I’m not sure you can even call it a folding bike, because the Somerset utilizes a MUCH more effective system to shrink down to a compact size! At the heart of the design is a horseshoe-shaped, tubular frame that’s used as a slide rail. The circular steel structure and semi-arc frames can be transformed into a rollable handcart in seconds, making it easy to transfer between cycling and other forms of transportation like the subway or bus. Its small compact size also makes it convenient to store when not in use. Better yet, the unique arc and overall shape is as functional as it is beautiful, especially when compared to true folding bike designs.

A Bike that Weighs as Little as 2 Cats

hummingbird_00

Can you spot the bike in the photo above? Chances are, it wasn’t immediately obvious… and that’s great news for commuters and urban dwellers trekking the city! Named after the lightest bird in the world, the Hummingbird bike weighs in at less than 15 pounds! Its light weight is due to its minimalist form and largely carbon fiber frame. With a reinvented folding system that keeps tension in the chain so it never falls off (unlike other folding bikes), it’s easier than ever to fold it and transition between transportation modes!

A Neatly Folded Bicycle

Simply called the “Fold Bike,” this origami-inspired folding cycle provides ultra-portability in the urban environment without sacrificing style. The dapper design’s paramount feature, however, is a folding wheel that saves additional space. It’s been designed with a simple yet robust spring locking mechanism that engages the wheel in a fixed and sturdy position in motion. With a simple release of the lock, the wheel folds into just a quarter of its size.

A Twist on the Folding Bike

Unlike other folding bikes with multiple sideways hinges, this innovative concept features one simplistic rotary mechanism that makes it possible to collapse in one easy motion. Located at the center where the pedals and gears meet, the rotating joint allows the two staggered halves to move vertically, making it possible to collapse or expand even in small spaces like the subway or bus.
