Minimal wooden cubicle-like furniture system creates cozy + comfy nooks in modern office spaces

Employees have slowly but surely made their way back to corporate offices, and it is certainly a transitionary phase where they learn to adapt and settle down in an office space once again. In such a situation, it’s important to add well-designed furniture designs that help them feel comfortable, space, and motivated in their workplace. And adding the right furniture designs can greatly contribute to creating an office that is conducive to motivation and productivity. And an interesting addition to modern offices would be the ‘Cubicle’ by Form Us With Love.

Designer: Form Us With Love

Design studio Form Us With Love teamed up with Danish manufacturer +Halle to design ‘Cubicle’ – an interesting “bench and wall system”. According to research, people prefer to have their backs to the wall in open-plan workspaces, and Form Us With Love took this into consideration while designing their furniture system Cubicle. Cubicle is meant to simulate that very experience. It is designed to replicate and mimic the particular qualities that people seek while searching for seats in an open indoor workspace like a library or a co-working space.

The Cubicle is inspired by dinner booths and train carriages, which are intended to be semi-rooms within large spaces. It is meant to be a freestanding furniture piece that can be set against a wall. “With all the easy, portable technology that is part of your toolbox today, we just want to offer a platform with the essentials for the user to feel comfortable in, either to do laptop-related work or have a tete-a-tete with a colleague,” said John Löfgren, co-founder of Form Us With Love. The Cubicle is available in a couple of different variations, but the essence always remains the same – a 1.2-meter-high backdrop, one or more bench seats, and compact integrated tables.

The entire Cubicle is built using as little materials as possible. It is constructed using oak-veneered plywood with optional upholstery and power sockets integrated beneath the seat, so the furniture system is warm, wooden, and minimal. It must be noted that it is quite large in size, so it is not well suited for smaller spaces or offices with space constraints, it is intended for larger corporate and commercial offices.

This mobile and flexible seating collection meets the furniture requirements of schools and offices

We often underestimate the importance of great office furniture! When in reality we really shouldn’t. We spend the majority of our day sitting on our office chairs or typing away on our desks whether we’re working in our home office or a corporate one. Hence, these pieces of furniture need to be not only comfortable but ergonomic, and aesthetic as well. And one such furniture design I recently came across for our modern-day office spaces is the Hybe seating collection.

Designer: Form Us With Love for EFG

Designed by industrial design studio Form Us With Love for furniture manufacturer EFG, the Hybe seating collection is a dynamic and mobile seating collection, that is quite versatile and unique. The brand says that the seating collection, is in fact, defined by ‘versatility’. The collection was designed to be utilized for both professional and educational environments.

“The [furniture] family’s primary characteristic is versatility, as it provides seating areas and meeting spaces that meet your needs and assignments at any given moment,” said EFG. The furniture collection includes single to double-seated chairs and enclosed booths. They’ve all been equipped with wheels, to create seating solutions that are both mobile and flexible. The singe-seat versions have been amped with wooden armrests, although they come without as well. Partition screens can be attached to the single and double-seated chairs, to transform them into sound-blocking booths, that function as private and secluded spaces to work in. The chairs come with castors or swivel bases.

“In recent years, we’ve seen significant changes in working environments, and tomorrow’s workplace will be even more versatile. A single piece of furniture will have to do more than one thing, and Hybe is the perfect hybrid for relaxation and work. You can work in it, hold a meeting or take a phone call,” said Form Us With Love co-founder John Löfgren. The seating collection features tubular steel chair legs which the brand defines as “a classic Scandinavian design with a soft, playful twist”. Wooden accents and soft delicate upholstery in a wide range of colors mark the various chairs. All the individual elements of the Hybe collection can be replaced and recycled over time.

The incredible material that is “wood wool”

Let’s file “Wood Wool” under new materials, because I’m hearing about it for the first time. Also referred to as excelsior in North America, these are soft wood shavings that are bound together by water and cement, creating a material that can be found in packaging, cushioning, insulation, and even stuffing teddy bears. Form Us With Love elevates it with their series of 3D tiles that make for great interior decor. Teaming up with the only Swedish manufacturer of wood wool, Traullit, Form Us With Love created the hexagonal tile for Baux.

Available in an absolute variety of colors, the Baux tiles make for beautiful visual patterns on walls, but here’s where it gets interesting. Wood wool has a wide variety of features that make it ideal for layering walls with. They’re natural, eco-friendly, and have a low emission footprint. Aside from that, they have great sound dampening qualities (making them a great fit for music studios), regulate moisture as well as temperature, resist termites and other vermin, and are known to be fireproof/flame-retardant, thanks to a specialized paint coating.

Made from a product that one would normally perceive as waste, Baux employs wood shavings and wood wool in a manner that elevates the aesthetic of a household, making it a great tool for designers to decorate with, while also coming with a feature list that’s more than desirable.
