Fruits from Start to Finish

Simply called the “Fruit Bowl”, this innovative packaging design makes it easy to transport fruit from the grocery store, home, and then to the waste bin.

Available at the store, users can pick one up and place their fruit of choice inside to carry home. Then, they can easily rinse the fruit by adding water and using the drain located on top. Store your favorite fruits or eat them directly from the canister. The convenient cap doubles as a place to temporarily throw your seeds or pits and makes it easy to dispose of them.

You’ve Got the Lök

lok_bowl

Have you ever purchased fruits or veggies but they have gone out of date in a very short time before you could relish in their goodness? Happens all the time to me. That’s why Im so excited about the Lök Fruit Bowl.

As fruits and veggies ripen, they release a gas called ethylene. This controls the texture, color, softening, and more during the ripening process. Yet, if the the fruits and vegetables come into contact with too much ethylene, it will cause them to go back more quickly – hence making them inedible and thrown directly into the compost pile.

However, with Lök Fruit Bowl, we can enjoy our healthy fruits and vegetables much longer. Lök uses an ethylene absorber. Ethylene isn’t so bad however, since it has been shown to contribute to cell division, DNA synthesis and development in meristems of roots. The Lök Fruit Bowl turns around and uses the absorbed ethylene to help grow plant life. So users can grow their own herbs, or plants in the plant pot of the Lök Fruit Bowl. Talk about the circle of life, and a longer time of enjoying your fruits and veggies.

Robotic Fruit Bowl Costs $11,500, Might Drop Your Fruit on the Floor

I love cool art and design, but artists can be a weird bunch. Take for instance this fruit bowl which was on display in the Design Space Tel Aviv booth at this week’s Art Basel show in Miami.

robotic fruit bowl

What you’re looking at is a 3D-printed fruit bowl that automatically opens itself when a user approaches it, and closes itself when they walk away. When it’s in motion, it looks pretty cool – like something out of a science fiction flick – but the design seems completely impractical too. Not only would I be worried that my fruit would fall out of it, but it also costs a whopping $11,500 (USD). I think I could buy out all of the fresh produce at my local grocery store for less than that.

The Robotic Fruit Bowl was created by Noam Dover and Amit Drori, and at that price they will probably will continue to own it.

[Thanks for the tip, Buster!]
