The latest version of the iRig HD not only has a 1/4″ Hi-Z input jack, and outputs for Lightning or USB devices, but it’s got a headphone jack with level control, and a 1/4″ output you can hook up to an external amplifier. That port lets you either directly pass through or apply any effects in real time. It’s also got a clip on back that makes it easy to hang on a microphone stand.

The iRig HD 2 samples sounds at a high-resolution 96kHz sample rate to preserve optimal quality, and has a 24-bit D/A converter. IK also includes a copy of AmpliTube 4 for Mac & PC ($149 value) as well as the unlocked version of AmpliTube for iOS ($19.99 value). These apps allow you to add all kinds of realistic effects to your music, from simulating specific amplifier acoustic profiles, to stomp box effects like reverb, wahwah, chorus, flanger, and more.
