The Pix-Up is a unique iPad stand from Ninki- UP that looks like a pixelated hand pointer. It has a small shelf in the front so it can hold most any tablet, not just the iPad (there you go Surface fans). You can use the stand on a desk, counter, or even your lap:

Well that’s just some awkward placement but if you can avert your eyes from the sausage, you can see the usefulness. It’s got a cool 8bit retro style too. The Pix-Up will be released in January but is available for pre-order now.

Chef Sleeve Cutting Board with iPad Stand

The iPad might be the ultimate recipe book but actually using it in the kitchen takes a little propping up. So combining an iPad stand with something you will be using to cook with anyway (like a cutting board) is a recipe for success. The Chef Sleeve Cutting Board is a dishwasher safe wood cutting board with a juice groove around the outside and a slot to hold your iPad in the back.

Double Robotics gives your iPad wheels, brings telepresence to the masses (video)

Double Robotics' 'Double' turns two tablets into teetering telepresence trolly video

Walking iPads aside, usable telepresence remains one of geekdom's purest goals. Being able to attend meetings, without the minor irritation of actually being there, has been a motivator for professionals and hobbyists alike. Double Robotics, on the other hand, feel that they've spotted an opportunity. By leveraging the computing power of the iPad, coupled with some smart design, it has created the "Double," a self-balancing motorized iPad stand. You'll need a pair of Apple slates to get going, one to peer into and use as a controller (via an app), another to project your face, and act as the seeing eye (via the front-facing camera). Best of all, this is much more affordable than many existing options, rolling in at $1,999 if you pre-order ($2,499 otherwise), shipping in December -- iPads not included. Facetime on wheels? Why didn't we think of that? Roll past the break for the video.

iPad Adjustable Floor Stand

ipad floor stand 650x650 iPad Adjustable Floor Stand
The iPad is undoubtedly the greatest invention mankind has ever known (FACT) but wouldn’t it be better if you didn’t have to hold it? Well wheel it on over with the iPad Adjustable Floor Stand. iPad Adjustable Floor Stand. This stand tilts, swivels, telescopes and adjusts to hold your iPad in any position that is most comfortable for you whether you’re sitting, standing, lying down, or even suspended upside down like a bat.

The whole stand is on casters so you can wheel it over to wherever you are. It has four bungee cords to keep the device in place even when it’s facing downwards. This stand can also fit Kindles, Nooks, or other tablets. It sort of reminds me of a hospital IV stand which is appropriate because the iPad is like your IV to the Internet.

The Whale Tail Stand for the iPad

whaletail ipad The Whale Tail Stand for the iPad
Your iPad can now be whale-tailing in public. The Whale Tail and Vacuum Dock from Octa adds a flexible whale tail shaped stand to the back of your iPad (or other inferior tablet). The shape allows you to prop up your iPad in most any position.
whaletail ipad3 The Whale Tail Stand for the iPad
The whale tail itself is detachable from the vacuum dock to allow compatibility with any future products from Octa (elephant ear? Tigger tail? cobra?), although right now it’s just the whale. The vacuum dock uses a suction type attachment to stick firmly to the smooth backside of your iPad and you can even use the whale tail as a handle with the fins keeping it firmly between your fingers.

Interesting stand for the iPad and you can buy it directly from Octa for $49.95.

Review: X-Doria: Widge for iPad 2

xdoria ipad widge Review: X Doria: Widge for iPad 2
We were recently sent an X-Doria Widge for the iPad 2 to review. Our two junior interns were more than willing to get their greasy toddler hands on this iPad case to test it out. Let’s face it: kids + iPad = kid’s iPad (amirite?!). Gotta protect the goods. The Widge is designed for kids and has cut-outs in the back and angles that make it easier for small hands to hold.
xdoria widge Review: X Doria: Widge for iPad 2
The rubbery case took a little bit of effort get the iPad in but once it was in, it wasn’t coming out (from the kids anyway). The wedge shape allows the iPad to stand up in two different angles and our junior interns took advantage of both. Note that ALL ports and cameras have cutouts that let them be used with the Widge on it.

The case is pretty lightweight (note that it’s somewhat hollow, not a solid wedge shaped block), durable, and easy to clean. It does not offer any protection to the screen, so you still have to keep things like hammers out of your kid’s hands while they use your iPad. The Widge is stylish enough to not embarrass Mom or Dad since while it’s designed for kids, adults can certainly use it as a stand too. It only comes in one color (more on the way?) and costs just $39.99 from X-Doria or Amazon Review: X Doria: Widge for iPad 2.

iPad Stands Made from Tools

ipad tools stand iPad Stands Made from Tools
Now this is a manly man’s iPad stand. It’s made from tools, using tools. Frank Luedtke makes and sells these handmade stands in his Etsy store for $95 each (a manly man’s price). He makes a few different styles like the screwdriver model above and the hammer stand below:

The hammer one is sold out right now, but I’m sure he’ll be making more soon. Or you could even build your own using the tools of your choice. Personally in my household this would probably not be allowed since we require a ten foot buffer zone between tools and breakable electronic devices (ever since the “flying socket wrench into the LCD TV incident”).
