BlackBerry Z10 spotted at retailers prior to BB10 event

BlackBerry Z10 spotted at retailers prior to BB10 event

Looks like retailers might be jumping the gun a bit on the about-to-be-announced BlackBerry Z10 smartphone. Twitter user @bandozer spotted one at a UK Phones4U retailer and managed to snap a pic (after the break), saying that "it looks and feels good," while our own tipster forwarded us the above image that came from another store. Looks like the only thing that'll stop the numerous leaks is when RIM finally announces the darned thing -- sometime in the next hour or two.

Nokia Lumia 510 will come to the UK, appears briefly at Phones 4U

If you liked the look of the previously India-bound Lumia 510 but live on the other side of the world, there's now no need to fret. Nokia has just confirmed to Omio that they will be bringing their cheapest Windows Phone device to Blighty -- although there's no word yet on UK-specific pricing or willing carriers. The phone was priced up at $200 when announced, which will net you a humble 4-inch display and 800MHz processor. Retailer Phones 4U accidentally let the Windows Phone 7.8 slab slip out onto its coming soon page and although it's already been erased, we've added some screen-grab proof after the break.

Phones4U launching LIFE Mobile MVNO in March, will use EE’s 3G network

Image

Independent handset retailer Phones4U is set to join the cellular bullfight after it announced it was launching its very own mobile network. It'll go toe-to-toe with the Carphone Warehouse's virtual network, TalkTalk, as well as competing for your hearts and wallets with the big four operators. LIFE Mobile will piggyback on Everything Everywhere EE's backbone, but users will initially be limited to 3G plans only, with 4G services coming later in the year. If you're worried that every trip to the company's stores will see LIFE handsets foisted upon you at every turn, company boss Tim Whiting has said that staff will be rewarded for "customer satisfaction" rather than sales. We suggest you try and game the system by telling the manager you'll only be truly satisfied after a nice cup of tea and a foot rub.

Phones 4u selects EE as UK MVNO partner for the launch of 'LIFE Mobile'

· EE signs Phones 4u as its 25th UK MVNO

· MVNO set to launch in March 2013, offering customers access to the UK's largest and fastest 2G and 3G network

· Phones 4u to offer 4G on LIFE Mobile later in 2013

22nd January 2013, United Kingdom: EE, The UK's most advanced communications company, has announced that Phones 4u, one of the UK's leading independent mobile retailers, will launch an MVNO on its network in March. LIFE Mobile will offer a wide range of great value tariffs and services that include data packages as standard, reflecting the changing nature of customer usage. The strategic partnership takes EE's portfolio of MVNO partnerships to 25, and demonstrates EE's commitment to expanding opportunities for new MVNOs across the UK.

EE offers the UK's only 4G network, and the widest 3G and 2G coverage in the UK. EE will make 4G available for LIFE Mobile customers later in 2013.

The MVNO agreement is an extension of EE and Phones 4u's longstanding and successful partnership. EE has been selected based on the strength of its network, its strong industry reputation, and its flexible and technologically advanced MVNO platform, which will allow Phones 4u to launch its service in the UK within months.

Launching in March, the new MVNO will have broad appeal and will offer a variety of tariffs and services that allow customers to choose the right deal for their mobile life.

Marc Overton, Vice President of Wholesale and M2M at EE said: "We're delighted that EE has been selected as Phones 4u's MVNO partner, giving us the opportunity to further build on our longstanding and successful relationship. As the largest MVNO operator in the UK, we believe in providing our customers with a choice of deals to meet their needs, and our partners are a key part of our growth strategy."

"By choosing the EE network, Phones 4u will guarantee its customers access to the UK's widest 3G coverage, as well as the UK's only 4G network later in 2013. Our ambition is to provide 4G to key industry players by the end of 2013, and we feel this will open up a world of opportunities for both new and existing partners alike."

Tim Whiting, Group Chief Executive at Phones 4u, said: "We are delighted to be able to extend our longstanding partnership with EE in order to add LIFE Mobile into the wide range of products and services available at Phones 4u. Our customers see their mobile devices as an integral part of their daily lives. LIFE Mobile will enable us flexibility and creativity in designing propositions to give our customers even further choice. We will sell LIFE Mobile alongside our existing network propositions and are confident the new network will play a key role in driving further growth for our business."

Phones 4U gives Sony Xperia Z March 1st release date in UK, will be coming to Vodafone

Sony unveiled the Xperia Z just hours earlier over in Las Vegas, but UK retailer Phones 4U has already announced that Brits will see the phone at the start of March. Excited "omni-balance" fans can pre-register (that is, sign-up for email updates) on the phone-seller's site starting today. The press release adds that it'll arrive across "a range of networks". In fact, Vodafone's told us directly that it'll definitely be selling the new flagship, although it hasn't followed Phones 4U's posited date -- we're still waiting for official confirmation from Sony on launch dates for both of its new slabs.

White Motorola RAZR i lands in the UK on December 22nd

Image

If owning one of the first Intel-based phones just isn't unique enough, there's now a rarer color option. The Motorola RAZR i is coming to the UK in a seasonally appropriate white, starting with local reseller Phones4U on December 22nd. The look will be familiar to some of those who've bought a Droid RAZR M on the other side of the Atlantic, but it may be easy to forgive any not-quite-complete color exclusivity through the contract price: Phones4U is giving the white RAZR i away for free to those who sign up for a contract worth at least £20.50 ($33) per month. While other stores might not carry the Atom-powered RAZR until after the holidays, Brits scrambling to find a last-minute tech gift might just have been given a reprieve.

Samsung ATIV S for Vodafone UK goes up for pre-order at Phones4U with a December launch

Samsung ATIV S hands-on

Brits looking to score Samsung's ATIV S flagship on Vodafone can start forming an orderly queue. UK reseller Phones4U is offering pre-orders for the Windows Phone 8 darling to those willing to sign a two-year contract, giving it away for free on a £33 ($52) plan with 600 minutes, unlimited text, 500MB of cellular data and 2GB on WiFi. Pay a pound more per month ($54) as well as £30 for the device ($48) and the subscription jumps to both unlimited minutes as well as 2GB of cellular use. Unfortunately, the wait for this biggest-screened Windows Phone may be a long one -- while Samsung has only confirmed a December launch for the ATIV S in the UK, Phones4U has the smartphone reaching customers on December 21st. If that's accurate, we'd make sure there's some leftover wrapping paper in case the ATIV S becomes a gift, even if it's to yourself.

Windows Phone 8 handset UK availability and pricing detailed: free starting from £21 per month

We've heard how Windows Phone 8 is all about you, and seen all the devices bearing the new OS at launch. What's left, however, is where you can get one on the other side of the pond and, more importantly, how much it's going to cost you. Nokia has separately announced that both the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 will be launching in the UK (and France) later this week. More specifically, though, it looks like every UK carrier will be getting at least three handsets, with the almost-ready-to-launch EE getting both of HTC and Nokia's handset pairs. We've got all the (current) pricing details and availability dates after the break.
