Five O’Clock Wall Clock: Because It’s the Best Time of the Day

5 Oclock Wall Clock

Five o’clock. It’s the time of day that you look forward to the most, each and every single weekday. And on weekends if you’ve got work on those days, too. It’s ironic how time seems to crawl by so slowly when you’re at work or doing some mundane chore or errand that you couldn’t get out of.

If you feel like that most of the time, then you might want to get one of these Five O’clock wall clocks. As you can see, it only has the number five printed on its face. All you have to do is glance over quickly to check how far or how close the hour hand is to five with no other numbers to distract you.

You can get the clock for $100.

Time isn’t concrete…

… but this clock is. Toronto based design collective the NDC found inspiration for this modern wall clock in a vintage hobby book found on a road trip! It’s called the Cairo Star Cut Concrete Clock (say that 10x fast), and its bold multifaceted design gives the illusion of heaviness, but at only 10mm thick, it’s actually quite light! For contrast, it features a translucent neon back plate that captures ambient light for an illuminated effect. Own it here!

Tick Tock Message Spot

The Little Note Clock is simply ingenious! So simple, in fact, it’ll make you say “duh, why didn’t I think of that!” The only thing different between this and your average wall clock is its face made of dry erase board. Users can scribble anything from notes to numbers or doodles to reminders. Best of all, no two are just alike once you’ve added your own touch to it!

Minute Differences

This simple twist on the wall clock ever-so-slightly changes the order of things to give it an entirely unique aesthetic and new way to read the time! Instead of an hour hand, the entire face of the clock is actually a spinning disc with a cut-out portion that reveals the changing numbers underneath. In a number of different colors and patterns, the user can choose the perfect match to their particular style. Get it here!

Blurring Time

When standing in front of the MOCAP wall-clock, its numbers are clear and visible, but walk around it and you’ll notice that they slowly dissolve, falling apart in a vague white fuzz. Inspired by the movie industries motion capture technology, this striking optical illusion is created by small, white balls that extend various distances from the matte black surface on pegs of the same color and appear to float effortlessly in the air. Own it here!

Grandfather Gets a Facelift

Pendulum clocks have seldom been redesigned and it’s probably because of our fixation with grandfather clocks. Nuno Teixeira brings out creative value to the proposition with his version of the Pendulum Wall Clock. It features led lights on the pendulum and on the clock hands, which adds an extra dimension to this clock

As he explains, “Pendulum works as an ordinary pendulum wall clock, with a perpetual movement provided by the magnetic mechanism. Since no double weight-driven movement is needed, the clock is lighter and easy to install.”

Custom clock pays homage to CPU, separates geeks from the squares (video)

Custom clock pays homage to CPU, separates geeks from the squares (video)

Pop quiz: Can you tell what the device pictured above is? If you answered "a clock that represents the essential building blocks of a CPU while using binary and HEX numerals to display time," then you're certifiably crazy -- and correct. The brainchild of tinkerer extraordinaire Lior Elazary, the "CPU clock" mechanically emulates the application of computer concepts -- codes, instructions and checks -- to create a "simple" wall clock. To display the time, the middle register uses binary numbers to indicate the hour (a reading of "0010" indicates 2 o'clock, for example). For minutes, the clock uses the HEX numerals on the outer edge of the device, so "05" represents "5," "0A" indicates "10," and so forth. Keeping the clock up to date is a ball that goes around and activates the various levers to change the time. Given all its geeky goodness, this one easily takes the nerd cake from the wordy QLOCKTWO W and super flashy Sci-Fi watch. For a more clockwork-like explanation about its inner workings, check out the video after the break.
