Industrially Incredible Coffee

coffee_roasting_machine_1

Here’s a design aesthetic I haven’t seen in a while! This coffee roasting machine has a wonderful Cubist style comprising elements that are integrated physically, but not visually. The Coffee Roasting Machine by Zhou Buyi looks industrial, doesn’t it? With its mechanical-inspired form, it sure looks like it means business and knows what it’s doing! Look at it from the top and you’ll see a sort of symmetry in the way the two circular elements position themselves at either end of the main parallelogram body. Plus, I’m absolutely digging the color scheme! What about you??

Fancy Future Faucet!

faucet_zhou_1

This design is all about being simple and clean in design. In fact it’s so simple and clean, it doesn’t even have a name! Titled ‘Faucet’, this washroom fitting boasts of a capacitive touch control system that allows you to not just power the faucet, but also allows you to set a timer for on/off functions, allowing you to control and monitor your water usage. That’s truly the important bit, isn’t it??

When the packaging is too perfect.

cube_sugar_1

The good thing about sugar cubes is how convenient they are. They’re standardized, so it’s much more accurate to say two cubes of sugar than two spoons (spoons vary in size, you see). Cubes also make efficient use of packaging, because they fit perfectly into cuboid shaped packages. You see, while they fit in perfectly, it’s the taking out that’s a hair-pulling affair. One usually has to tip the package over and have five, ten, or a whole bunch fall out. Then take one and rearrange the rest. What the Cube Sugar packaging cleverly does, is that it allows you to mess up the arrangement of cubes on the inside, so you can easily pick up a single cube. The front flap has a bellow detail that allows it to expand outwards, increasing space on the inside, so that the cubes can break formation. It ain’t rocket science, but it’s a simple, beautiful idea!

Speed Limit Capped

The Speed Guard is a speedometer alert that uses a colored display to let the driver know that he is speeding above the permitted speed limit. GPS readings detect the position of the car and the speed limit of that particular road. So even if you see the signboard, your car knows the speed limit; no escaping that!

When the speedometer’s needle passes the speed limit, the excess area covered by the needle will be illuminated with red light.

Speed Guard is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winner.

Colored Tiers Are Safer

The Discolor Tyre is a concept where the age and durability of the car tire is indicated and communicated through its color. Basically a tire is good for around 20,000 kilometers, and then its kinds worn out. With the Discolor Tyre, the tire takes on a bright orange hue once it is worn out and requires immediate replacement. It saves you the trouble of keeping a constant check and acts as a good warning system to keep your travels safe.

The Discolor Tyre is a 2012 iF Design Talents entry.

Cup Designed For Better Hygiene

Here’s the deal with drying cups hygienically. If you store them upright, then there is a chance of dirt/dust falling in. If you place them upside down, then the rim gets dirty once again. So to solve the problem we have here the Bevel Cup, inspired by the angular stance of a ballerina. The angular handle of the Bevel Cup allows it to remain as clean as possible when it is stored after being washed.

Bevel Cup has an angled handle (at 40°angle to horizontal plane) that allows it to stand at an angle, upside down, but resting only on the handle itself. This keeps dust out and germs off the rim. This storage position is also a good indicator that the cup is ready to be used rather than in need of a wash after a previous use.

Bevel Cup is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winner.
