Audacious, All-purpose Appliance!

audi_layer_1

Black and white are usually associated with retro or vintage, aren’t they? Well, this article is a glorious contradiction, because the Audi Layer input device looks unbelievably futuristic despite all the images on this page being black and white.

The Audi Layer doesn’t just look futuristic. It IS futuristic. Combining 4 devices into a single form, this genius of a peripheral will literally be all you need to attach to your computer.

The Layer comes with a flat track-pad that also becomes a tablet input when you use the stylus embedded within. Slide the track-pad out to reveal a complete tactile QWERTY keyboard underneath. Beside it (and occupying the most visual mass) is the ever-so-sleek mouse that absolutely slays with the Audi branding proudly engraved into it. Anyone who said touchscreens are the future never owned the incredibly versatile Audi Layer!

Pair that Chair

pair_00

There’s ne’er been a chair better as a pair! Appropriately named “Pair”, this seating solution was designed not just as a linkable set, but as a modular system of components, with over 8,000 possible variations.

Adaptable to nearly any environment, each unit can be personalized with 2 back rest options, 2 leg options, 1 seat (in 5 colors), and 1 cushion (in 40 colors). Capable of being latched together horizontally or stacked vertically, they’re as convenient as they are customizable!

Embracing a Mid-Century design language, the utilitarian units utilize a pressed plywood shell with a strong sense of fluid geometry. The traditional material of the seat shell is paired with an injection moulded polycarbonate backrest, creating an interesting tension between old and new. The backrest is moulded with 10% transparency, which elevates the plastic material and gives it a glass-like quality.

A new flavor of design

layer_benjamin_hubert_design_1

That’s the best way to sum up the design outlook of Benjamin Hubert’s human-centered design collective, Layer Design. At the crossroads of design, Layer chooses the Experience Design part but it doesn’t abandon Style. In fact, it questions Style, bring out some unusually beautiful characteristics through the usage of new materials and visions. Not restricting themselves to Industrial Design, Layer does quite a spectacular job of carrying their vision to the UI department too.

You’ll feel a lingering sense of awe at some of the designs. If not awe, you’re left with a sense of curiosity or perhaps even confusion, but all that transforms into an emotion so unforgettable, the designs by virtue of their stylistic strangeness become beautifully iconic. That’s where Layer has carved their niche, as people who create a new wave of memorable design directions. Love them or hate them, you won’t forget them; and that’s remarkable!

Overlayer Adds a Little Bit of Silly and a Whole Lot of Crazy to Your Pics

You don’t have to be a whiz at Photoshop to edit your photos to turn them into hilariously kooky images for your entertainment – because now there’s a site for that.

It’s called Overlayer and it’s a pretty appropriate name once you see what it can do.

Overlayer1Yeah, that’s a girl licking Tim Tebow’s butt, but that’s all her, because what Overlayer lets you do is layer on your photos with one of their overlays to come up with a funny image.

Other funny overlays include a TMZ frame, a weird cyber statue, McLovin’s fake ID, a Nirvana baby, and a smokin’ chicken bod.
