Evolving Electricals

3plus2_plug_1

You’d think that by now we would just unite and come up with a single universal plug design. I know world peace and unity is difficult, but could we just have one damn plug and plug-point to match?! Designer Xiaojiu Zhang said to herself “to hell with converters, why can’t the plug just modify itself to fit different orientations?”. The result was the 3+2 Plug, a shape shifting plug design that can alter to fit two plug-point configurations.

The plug is circular with a pretty easy-to-grip shape. The grip also doubles as a knob that can be turned to mechanically flip/rotate the pins. Go ahead, give it a scroll! I’m sure you’ll marvel the idea. Maybe come up with some useful insights!

This Plug is a Switch!

Ideas that enhance functionality are always welcome, and hence the Clack Plug makes its way here. The socket is the switch itself; hence the design compels you to switch off the plug when not in use. Ideal of course is to unplug devices when not in use, but for now the Clack Plug will suffice.

Hanaga Tap Nose Outlets: Pick for Power

Nose Electrical Plugs

Snot and boogers aren’t the only things that you can expect to come out of a nose. Not that the Hanaga Tap Nose Outlets are real noses you can find on humans, although they look like the real thing. Available in black, white, and pink, the Nose outlets basically just plug into your outlet and provide you with another outlet for the actual appliance or gadget that you want to power up.

In short, it’s pretty much useless, but it’s undeniably a whole lot of fun. It’s available from the Japan Trend Shop for $35.

thingCHARGER Lets You Literally Pile On the Chargers

Thingcharger

Running out of outlets to plug in your chargers for all of your devices? Then you might want to check the thingCharger out. It’s a portable outlet-slash-charger of sorts that lets you still use an outlet while you’re charging your device. The cool thing is that it’s stackable, so you can charge one, two, three or more devices in a single outlet and still be able to use that outlet for something else.

The thingCharger comes with interchangeable tips that are stored at its back, so you can swap between adapters for Apple, Samsung, HTC, Nokia, or Sony in a jiffy. It eliminates the wires that most chargers come with and is described as “green by design” since it doesn’t consume any power when it’s not actually in use.

The thingCharger is currently up for funding on Indiegogo, where a minimum contribution of $29 will get you one of your very own.

LIttle Savior

It’s happened to all of us… you’re hard at work at the computer when a power failure occurs and you lose… EVERYTHING. The worst! — Autosave is great and all, but it doesn’t always do the trick. This is where Little Savior comes in handy. Just like the name suggests, it gives you an extra 10 minutes of power so you can save your work! Best of all, it’s just slightly larger than a standard plug, making it more discreet than other heavy duty surge protectors.

The Push Pull Plug

A clever use of physics is seen in the Stable Plug. It basically has a push-pull feature that allows you to easily slide in and out a plug from the socket. A ‘stable’ design that eliminates problems associated with wall-sockets and plugs!

The Stable Plug is a 2013 IDEA Awards winner.

3.5mm with a Twist

The 90degree Adapter focuses on the ergonomics of one tiny, often overlooked, component: the headphone plug. It’s just plain annoying to have that rigid plastic jutting out from your phone, tablet, computer or other devices. The 90degree gets it out of the way by twisting near the intersection of the metal and plastic. The plug becomes flush with your device, making it easier to hold or rest in a case.
