This Jeep inspired outdoor speaker plays your music and lights up your path!

Inspiration can be found anytime, anywhere. Designers seem to be crossing all boundaries, venturing into unchartered territories in the hope of discovering something that could lead to the creation of a one of a kind product. In a journey much like this, Korean designers Yubin Choi and Ilhyun Kwon found themselves sourcing inspiration from the automobile industry… you won’t believe – for a Bluetooth speaker! In their desire to create a speaker that wasn’t subject to the constraints of the environment, they ended up drawing inspiration from the versatile ‘Jeep’. The Jeep was created keeping in mind it should be a vehicle that enables us to enjoy the road without any hesitation, even in the harshest environment! Equipped with a rigid frame, strong and durable, the Jeep is at the mercy of no environmental or climatic conditions (except maybe a tornado). Based on the brand value and functionality provided by the Jeep, the ‘Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker’ was brought into existence.

Waterproof as well as dustproof, the Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker is guaranteed to stand sturdy and stout in any situation. Shaped like the front end of a Jeep, it possesses an imposing and rugged appearance. Boasting an aluminum frame, the speaker is surrounded by a hardy bumper, which provides full protection to the product against major elements including dust, sand, and splashes. Two round headlamps, imitating the headlights of the Jeep, hold integrated LED lights that can light up even the darkest of paths, ensuring that the users can venture into the outdoors comfortably. The clips at the top of the product allow it to be easily placed or latched onto any clothing item, backpack or tent. Much like the Jeep wherein it’s individual parts like the doors and the sunroof can be easily removed, parts of the speaker can be replaced if they undergo any damage or scratches. Available in a variety of colors, the parts can be changed according to the user’s preference and mood! It’s an opportunity for all Jeep enthusiasts to extend their love for the automobile to their choice of audio product as well. Much like a mini Jeep or a Jeep-minion, I’m sure it’s something all Jeep loyalists would love to get their hands on!

In an attempt to merge automotive, audio and tech, it seems Choi and Kwon have created a multifunctional and exceedingly unique product. In an age where everyone is afraid to carry their fragile Bluetooth speakers around, they have provided us with a rugged and not to mention visually pleasing option! Good music on your next camping trip? The Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker guarantees that!

The ultimate dust-royer

handy_vacuum_cleaner_1

When you think of vacuums, there are probably a few images that come to mind – the engineering aesthetics of Dyson, the loveable face of Henry the Hoover or the old reliable clunky hard-shelled Bosch and Siemens of the past. Well, what if you were to take the brilliance of both the emerging Chinese and Korean design languages and transform the handheld vacuum – you’d stumble upon the Handy Vacuum Cleaner designed by Myeonghoon Lee & Yubin Choi.

This product is edgy, coming off as intimidating almost, something that you would pick up in the toughest of situations and never bat an eye. This handheld vacuum is a dust-royer. The cyclone and motor located just under the handle, have a visual appearance like that of a futuristic concept bike, adding a subtle flair with the orange highlight. There is one area that I feel Lee and Choi rushed, which was the charging unit. With the Dyson handheld vacuum, the charging unit can be mounted to a wall, like that inside a closet, and the interaction of docking the vacuum is an effortless process, a carefully thought out one. It’s features like the Dyson charging unit that make good products great.

A 4 Adventure!

a4_toolkit_1

There are two majorly important camping tools your regular Swiss knife won’t have. A Hammer, and a torch. In keeping with a camper’s requirement of things being compact, the A4 Tool Kit provides you with these two necessities in a kit smaller than the size of an A4 sheet. It comes with a handle and two attachable tops (one hammer and one torch, respectively, and a design language that makes it instantly desirable (navy blue + bronze = drool!)

I wonder how one’s supposed to use the hammer in the dark though…

A Twist on the Outlet

33outlet_01

I, like many, am happy to hide my power outlets with furniture and other items but that only makes them harder to access. It also doesn’t help that they’re flush against the wall which makes aiming the plug a task in itself!

The 33˚ Outlet takes on this problem by making a simple adjustment to the angle of the unit. The outlets diagonal form can still be mostly recessed into the wall, but it makes it a whole lot easier to see and aim. In those cases where you have to blindly reach behind a piece of furniture, it’s also easier to navigate without looking because the user can feel the slight incline of the outlet surface and determine the position of the holes from there!

Angled At 33

The innovative ∠33 ˚ outlet is designed for power outlets that are located at the bottom of the wall. Thanks to the angled position, inserting a plug into the outlet is very easy. The socket is easily accessible and invisible to people who don’t know it’s there! Pretty clever!

∠33˚ Outlet is a 2013 IDEA Awards entry.
