8 Ramen Recipes For The Starving Startup Entrepreneur

I’ve interviewed a lot of startup entrepreneurs and all of them have tales of frugality. Whether they’re living on couches or blow-up mattresses, buying only the cheapest and most vile bottom-shelf...

‘Ramen’ses Return Cake: Oodles of Noodles

Threadless is currently holding a contest called Threadcakes – in which bakers submit cake designs inspired by Threadless t-shirts. There are a bunch of awesome and amusing submissions, but my favorite so far has to be this cake.

The cake was inspired by Jerry Maninang’s ‘Ramen’ses Return t-shirt design. The cake not only captures the essence of the amusing t-shirt’s design, but takes it to a whole ‘nother level, IMHO. Also cake is better for you than noodles. Or so I’ve been told.

This intricate vanilla buttermilk cake was made by Jessica Allard, who deserves all the accolades in the world for her amazing noodle cake. Check out all of the work she had to go through in order to create this incredible edible sculpture.

Be sure to check out all of the other delicious submissions in the Threadcakes gallery. I give my second place prize to Death is Random. Though Tea at 2,000 Feet is pretty spectacular too.

Pizza Just Got Ramen-ized: No Dough, All-Ramen Crust

Ramen-Crusted Pizza

This is pizza like you’ve never had it before.

Instead of the usual dough, J. Kenji Lopez-Alt has come up with a seriously awesome alternative for the crust in the form of ramen. Sometimes, I think ramen is about to become the next bacon, what with all the unusual creations that people are coming up with it. Remember the ramen burger? It’s mostly being used as an alternative for bread, given it’s flavor (or non-flavor), but still. It adds that extra oomph, that extra crunch, that boring old bread or dough just doesn’t have.

J. Kenji has generously shared the recipe for ramen-crusted pizza here, in case you want to try making it at home. It’s a pretty straightforward recipe that calls for instant noodles, some olive oil, and your pizza sauce and toppings of choice–stuff you probably already have in your pantry. Bon apptetit!

This Pizza Has a Crunchy, Ramen-tastic Crust

Pizza with pasta toppings. Pizza infused with lasagna in the middle. Pizza with burgers baked into the crust. Those are just some of the interesting pizza creations people all over the world have come up with.

Another one to add to the list is the Ramen Crust Pizza.

As its name suggests, this delicious pie was made with a crispy ramen crust. That’s right, you won’t find any dough here. The pizza was thought up by J. Kenji Lopez-Alt. The recipe is surprisingly simple and easy to follow: cook instant noodles, simmer the cooked noodles in hot olive oil, add toppings, and bake. Sounds delicious.

You can find the recipe here, in case you’re interested in making your own Ramen Pizza for dinner. Or if you’d rather not go through the trouble, it’s only a matter of time before Pizza Hut starts making these, I’m sure.

Chicken Flavored Ramen Noodle Cake, Just Add Hot Water (or Not)

Instant ramen soup. It’s an amazing geek food, even if those flavor packets will kill you with MSG and sodium. Gamers especially love the stuff, because of it’s easy to make nature. You can make it and barely be distracted from your game. Well, what if I told you that you could have a Ramen noodle cake?

This awesome Ramen noodle cake is nowhere nearly as easy to make, but I bet it is even more delicious than Ramen noodles. It’s chicken flavored of course, because we all know that is the best flavor. And the flavor packet is a nice touch too. As an added bonus, there’s no MSG here. I think.

No water required for this Ramen package. That would be disgusting.

Anti-Loneliness Ramen Bowl: You’ll Never Have to Eat Noodles Alone Ever Again

Ramen Bowl

Noodles are my comfort food. I know they’re not the healthiest of foods to eat, but there’s just something about it that reminds me of warm nights and better days to come. For those unavoidable times where you have to eat alone and you happen to be having some instant ramen (or some other food you’re eating in a bowl), then you won’t have to be too alone anymore with this ‘anti-loneliness’ ramen bowl by MisoSoupDesign.

It’s basically a bowl with a smartphone holder. From the looks of it, they’ve only made the holder in one size, and while I’m sure that it can accommodate a variety of different-sized smartphones, larger-sized devices (like the Galaxy Note, for instance) probably won’t fit. No pricing information has been released yet, although MisoSoupDesign has already released images of samples of the bowl that they’ve already made.

Hot noodles, a friend on the other end of the line, and reruns of your favorite show? A night home alone doesn’t sound that bad now, huh?
