This smart indoor garden uses hydroponics to cultivate plants in a growth tray that resembles natural outdoor landscapes!

Vista is a smart gardening system that uses hydroponics to cultivate lush greenery in a growth tray that mimics the natural terrain of a mountainous landscape.

Smart gardens have taken the design world by storm in recent years. With so much of our time now spent indoors, we’re craving the freshness and beauty of nature. Even so, many of the smart gardens currently on the market are too sterile and rigid to actually make us feel close to nature.

Too many of the smart gardens on the market today prioritize function over aesthetics, amounting to cold, vertical farms that would look more at home in a research center’s greenhouse than a living room. That’s why designer Juhyuck Han created Vista, a smart garden appliance that mimics a landscape’s natural terrain and scales it down to fit in our homes.

Designed to either stand alone or be mounted on an interior wall, Vista takes up around the same space as a large fish tank. Featuring a hydroponic gardening system, Vista’s grow tray mimics the terrain of a natural landscape to bring users closer to nature. Through an immersive structure and smart technology, Vista combines functionality with aesthetics to create a gardening experience.

Trading a cold structure for a design that appeals to the senses, Han notes, “It designed a new smart green appliance that allows you to feel nature and experience growing plants in natural scenery, not in such an artificial box. Vista is a smart green appliance that brings natural scenery into the product and provides a new experience that seems to be cultivated directly in nature.”

Measuring the size of a large fish tank, Vista is designed to be the centerpiece of any interior space. The entire hydroponic cultivation system is encased within a transparent, panoramic glass container that comes with its own array of smart features.

Equipped with GPS technology, the glass container reveals various pieces of daily information such as the weather, temperature, date, and time. Defined by a louver window system, Vista’s plants are also kept ventilated with plenty of fresh air.

A smart compost tracking system that analyses soil conditions to send alerts to users

Monty is a smart compost tracking system that analyzes soil conditions with Bluetooth and smart technology before sending alerts to users through a mobile app of when their soil could use some extra care.

Everyone thinks about composting at some point. Whether you have a small, windowsill herb garden or a full grassy yard, composting helps keep greenery abundant and healthy while also recycling organic waste back into the soil. While the benefits are many, actual compost gardens are few and far between. Making the composting game accessible and easy for everyone, Monty is a smart compost system that connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth to track compost data and break the process down into simple steps.

“Compost can reduce our waste, feed our food, and save our soil but not enough people do it,” as the creators behind Monty put it. Monty Compost Company developed its smart compost system to help make composting more efficient and approachable for people with all types of gardens. Using integrated smart technology, Monty’s soil sensors connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth and use an app-based management system to help track the conditions of the compost in your garden. Monty is comprised of a mobile app and sensor wand that analyzes the state of your soil to indicate when more compost can be added.

Stocked with first-class smart technology, Monty tracks the key compost health indicators such as soil temperature, humidity, and VOCs. Wireless by design, Monty can be disassembled and plugged into an external charging basin, where the batteries can power up before hitting the soil again. Through the mobile app, users will be alerted when their soil needs water, less sunshine, or more compost as the wand tracks its conditions.

This indoor vertical garden is a bio-filter with smart technology designed to improve indoor air quality!

Elpo is a biofilter that doubles as an indoor garden with integrated smart technology that improves indoor air quality and ensures healthy moisture levels.

Following the stay-at-home orders brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, new habits are hard to hit. Since then, we’ve been spending a lot of time indoors, renovating home offices, and bringing the gym to the family room. Getting back into the office, we’re all hyper-aware of the air we breathe and inevitably share with one another.

Inspired to provide an air filter for collaborative spaces, designers Kārlis Vītols, Lolita Epnere, Buka Bērziņa ushered Elpo into the office, a smart biofilter that doubles as a teeming, indoor garden.

Recognized by the European Product Design Awards, Elpo was a Top Design Winner in Flora and Fauna/Hydroponic Devices, nodding to its aesthetic and innovative design. Elpo aims to improve indoor air quality by combining technology and the power of nature.

By absorbing airborne toxins and gases into their leaves and sending them down to their roots, some plants are able to help purify the air we breathe. Equipped with a smart biofilter, it’s not only the plants that Elpo uses to improve indoor air quality.

Like many modern indoor gardens, Elpo comes stocked with automated, smart technology that lights, fans, and irrigates the potted greenery. In creating a smart biofilter that doubles as an indoor garden, Elpo improves indoor air quality while also functioning as a room divider in office settings.

The biofilter ensures healthy moisture levels, while the indoor garden boasts a stylish interior design element that opens up any room. Modular by design, buyers can even create a smart biofilter system that spans the entire width of any given room.

This at-home plant cultivator keeps a minimalist design and grows any plant indoor, in your kitchen!

Balance is an at-home plant cultivator that keeps a small enough size and minimalist design to fit into any modern kitchen.

The pandemic proved that having access to your source of produce should be as commonplace as having access to clean drinking water. Still, the majority of us rely on grocery stores and delivery apps to get our produce and fresh greenery. While keeping our eyes peeled for buzz words like organic and local harvest is a personal choice, there’s no way of knowing exactly under what conditions and where our produce is harvested.

Balance, a plant cultivator designed by Designer Dot, is designed for those of us who’d like access to a personal supply of fresh produce at home without the hassle of tending to a garden day-in, day-out.

Designer Dot is known for its extensive catalog of household appliances. Designer Dot is all about merging minimalist aesthetics with convenient design from wireless portable chargers to self-contained coffee brewers.

When creating Balance, the team at Designer Dot sought to conceptualize an at-home plant cultivator that’s compact enough to fit into any modern kitchen and inconspicuous in its minimalist design to adapt to any interior design scheme.

Stocked similarly to most plant cultivators, Balance comes with pull-out drawers that contain pods and sprout cavities for produce and crops to germinate from and grow. The drawers themselves can be removed to allow ceiling height for taller plants to grow, which users can swap in and out for different plants accordingly.

Once the seeds are planted, Balance takes care of the rest. Inside Balance, LEDs pour nonstop grow light over the seedlings to ensure healthy crops come time to harvest. To prevent the LEDs from busying the kitchen too much, Designer Dot built-in scroll blinds to shield the cultivator’s light from view.

Keeping a rather minimal exterior, Balance originally comes in a blush pink shade, which users can customize to fit their tastes.

Metallic ribbing with integrated haptic sensor technology runs down the length of Balance’s front facade, functioning as the appliance’s control panel. There, users will find the on/off button, temperature dials, as well as other control switches that work to optimize growing conditions for the plants inside. Additionally, like most modern home appliances, Balance comes with an accompanying app that suggests the best care for each user’s specific plants.

Designer: Designer Dot

Balance’s integrated smartphone app alerts users when plants require special care.

Intuitive app reminders signal to users the overall conditions of their plants.

When placed in the kitchen, Balance’s scroll blinds provide a stylish way of covering the appliance’s bright LEDs.

Along Balance’s front facade, metallic ribbing encases haptic control panels.

This smart indoor garden uses hydroponics to grow vegetables while matching your modern home!

With the pandemic leaving most of us to our own devices, some of us knew we had no choice but to get good at cooking. My spice cabinet is overflowing because of it. Getting more and more familiar with herbs and the punch they pack in flavorful dishes, the popularity of horticulture has also increased. More and more people are installing indoor garden systems into their homes because they provide an easy, accessible way to bring the flavor of fresh herbs to every dinner plate. Grobo Premium is one such indoor garden system that utilizes smart technology and hydroponics to harvest vegetables and herbs inside the comfort of your own home.

Since Grobo Premium is a smart garden system, the weight of having to learn about horticulture is lifted from the user’s shoulders. All that’s required for plant cultivation with Grobo is planting the initial seed and filling/draining the water as the days go by. Since hydroponics generally takes a more hands-free approach to gardening, the makers behind Grobo Premium chose it for their smart indoor garden system. Hydroponics is a type of horticulture that grows vegetables and herbs without soil, opting instead for mineral-rich solutions, oxygen, and water to cultivate plant life.

Once the user plants the initial seed, an eleven-liter water tank that rests at Grobo’s bottom feeds the seed with water while a nutrient-dosage unit balances out the pH levels to achieve optimal sprouting conditions. Inside Grobo’s main body, dual intake fans keep the amount of air balanced for the plants to then grow towards the eight LED lights that provide ample sunlight and energy. Through an accompanying app, Grobo allows you to track your plant’s progress so even when you’re away, you can always come back home to fresh herbs and vegetables for dinner.
