Ardu McDuino: Bagpipe Playing Robot

I’m always amazed when I see people playing bagpipes. That weird sack with pipes sticking out of it looks so complicated that I can’t believe anyone could master it. I’m just not musically gifted I guess. Perhaps I should buy a chanter. For those of you who don’t know, a chanter is a device that teaches you how to play bagpipes. And guess what, this robot is playing one, and doing a great job at it.

Maker XenonJohn’s robot is called Ardu McDuino for obvious reasons. This bagpipe chanter playing robot has an Arduino Mega 2560 controller and it’s creator used an off the shelf open source design of 3D printed prosthetic hand called Raptor-reloaded. For now, its builder is using his own breath to provide the air flow, but could easily replace that with an air pump. So the robot is all brain, hands, with human lungs.

Check out the video here to see this pair of robot hands play Amazing Grace.

If a robot can learn to play, maybe I can too… Nah. Probably not. I’ll leave it to the robots. Hit the link below for more details on this cool project.

Guy Plays the Star Wars Theme with Flaming Bagpipes, Balances on BB-8 Droid

There are many ways to celebrate your favorite outer space saga. Some people collect action figures and statues, others play the theme song on flaming bagpipes while balancing on a BB-8 droid. He also is wearing a BB-8 hat. Which kinda makes him look like an Imperial Officer. Different strokes for different folks.

Watch The Unipiper do his thing. You will believe he is the actual droid. Okay, maybe not, but it’s a fun video. He’s not nearly as agile as the droid, but that droid also doesn’t have to play flaming bagpipes while balancing on a human.

Now I get the name. The BB in BB-8 obviously stands for Balncing and Bagpipes.

Monty Python’s King Arthur on a Unicycle with Flaming Bagpipes…YES!

If you have never watched the classic film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, you all need a spanking. You can never know the violence inherent in the system if you have never watched this film. One of my favorite things about the film is that the actors rode around on fake horses whilst a squire clapped two coconut shells together for sound effects.

Recently a Portland-based (of course) dude named Brian Kidd, known as the Unpiper, rode a unicycle around while playing Monty Python music on bagpipes that shoot flames. It is as awesome as it sounds.

Check out the video above to see the coconut shell clapping, flaming glory that is Monty Python. Now I have to watch Holy Grail immediately.
