DC Universe offers access to DC’s full library of digital comics

You'd have thought that DC Universe would provide full access to every DC comic, but not so -- even after an expansion, you've had to sift through a "curated" selection. Your options are about to expand, thankfully. As of April, DC Universe will pr...

The Batman Serving Tray Is My Batsignal

I think I just found my own personal bat-signal, because this awesome Batman serving tray will call me to the table every time. Forget projecting a huge bat signal in the sky. Fill my belly with snacks instead, and I’ll fight crime however you want. But maybe just a little nap first. All of that pepperoni really made me tired. The Joker ain’t going anywhere, except insane. GCPD can keep him busy for a while, right?

This kick-ass serving tray is shaped like Batman’s logo, but full of food instead of brood. It’s perfect for serving your guests during any occasion, whether you are a millionaire like Bruce Wayne, or a butler like Alfred. Fill it up with meat, vegetables, cheese, fruit, desserts, snacks, chips, dips, appetizers, and more. I think we both know that any cheese that touches this tray has to be shaped like the bat-symbol as well. It just makes sense. Your guests will love that.

It’s great for fans of both food and the Dark Knight. Throwing a party in New York? You’ll be the hero that Gotham needs. This officially licensed DC merchandise is made of ceramic, is dishwasher safe and also microwave safe. It measures 14″ x 10″ x 1″, and is available from Amazon for just $11.99.

Superman The Movie to get 4K UHD Blu-Ray Update

Growing up, one of my favorite movies was Superman The Movie. Christopher Reeve will always be Superman to me, just as Roger Moore will always be 007. I’ve tried to watch the flick when it came on TV a few times, but I just can’t stand the blurry and crappy picture the movie has compared to films of today.

If you feel the same way, there’s some good news. Superman The Movie is getting the Blu-Ray treatment compete with 4K resolution and Dolby Vision HDR. Audiophiles will love the upgraded Dolby Atmos sound too.

The Ultra HD Blu-Ray combo pack includes the digital version and will sell for $41.99. An all-digital version will be offered as well. This was the superhero flick that pretty much started it all for most ’80s kids – this and Flash Gordon. I hope the other Christopher Reeve Superman flicks get remastered for 4K soon too.

Batman BBQ Tool Set: Where Does He Get All Those Wonderful Burgers?

Grill like one of DC’s finest thanks to this Batman BBQ Tool Set. Because in your world, Commissioner Gordon doesn’t lure you to Gotham with the Bat Signal, you lure him to the Batcave with some perfectly grilled burgers. Then you sit down and eat, shoot the breeze, and laugh about Ben Affleck being cast as you.

Be the hero of your own backyard and brood while flipping steaks and burgers. Isn’t it about time your summer grilling experience got geekier? This is my new set of BBQ tools right here. Love that the logo is on the spatula. Now if I can just figure out how to brand my meat with that bat-logo, I’ll be good to go.

Justice League Nesting Dolls: Flash Is Fast, Flash Is Cool, Flash Is Tiny

Justice League hits theaters this Friday, and while it sounds like it’s far from perfect, early reviews are that it’s a step in the right direction for the dark and dreary Snyder-verse take on DC Comics’ superheroes. I sure hope it has more humor than Batman v. Superman. I felt like I needed to knock back a couple of Prozac after watching that one.

For me, the Justice League was a lighthearted Saturday morning cartoon back during my childhood, so there’s a pretty dramatic divide between those two worlds for me. If you prefer the bright and colorful cartoon version of the Justice League, then check out these fun collectibles that recently turned up at ThinkGeek.

This set of Russian-style nesting dolls includes likenesses of the five original members of the Justice League: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash, with sizes ranging from 6″ tall down to 1-3/4″ tall. I guess their sizes sort of correspond to their popularity in the DC universe, though I was always more of a Batman guy than a Superman guy. Regardless, it’s a fun addition to any toy collection, and barely takes up any space when they’re all stacked inside of each other.

You can grab the set over at ThinkGeek for just $25, which is cheaper than a ticket to the theater with popcorn and a drink these days.

This Book Features The Worst Comic Book Supervillains of All-Time

What’s the best aspect of old 60’s and 70’s comic books, it’s not the campy writing, identical art styles, or bright colors, it’s the terrible superpowered characters with no originality or creatively at all (I thought everyone was doing acid?).

Well, now’s your chance to own some of comic history’s most unforgettable forgettable supervillains! Featuring such villains as Doctor Voodoo, The Horrible Hand, and Bloor, who could forget Bloor! The book also features some of comic’s most obvious and awful knockoff characters such as The Clown, Cat Girl, and my favorite, BrickBat, a knockoff of Batman that uses bricks to solve his problems. I smell a movie franchise, oh wait, the cat box needs changing.

It’s available now on Amazon for $16, and would make a perfect gift for that friend who thinks old comics are the best ones.

DC Collectibles Dark Nights Metal #1 Batman Statue: Polystonium

Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s wild comic book series Dark Nights: Metal is a merchandise machine. But even with its squad of evil Justice League Batmen, DC Collectibles is starting with the Dark Knight as his normal ass-kicking self.
