Guy Selling Flappy Bird Drawing for $1,000, Say What?

People just seem to get a little crazy when it comes to Flappy Bird. Forget about how frustrating the game is. I’m talking about stuff like putting phones with Flappy Bird on eBay that sell for way too much money. Or the fact that somebody was inspired enough to make this or this.

Now some crackpot on eBay is selling this original Flappy Bird drawing for $1,000. I can’t help but wonder if anyone is crazy enough to buy it.

It was hand drawn by the seller, who says that the funds will go to his “collage” education. So you can see that he really does need to attend “collage”. It is Flappy Bird art and it is original. Wanna hang this on your wall for a grand? Didn’t think so.

Solid Gold Flappy Bird Figurine Worth Its Weight In Gold

Flappy Bird became a worldwide phenomenon – more so when its creator Dong Nguyen pulled it out of various app stores. While he’s still mulling it’s return, the flapster is still very much alive in the hearts and minds of people all across the globe (and on their phones.)

An unusual way of immortalizing the awesomeness of Flappy Bird is this three-dimensional figure of the titular character that’s crafted from solid gold.

The gold Flappy Bird was created by Vietnam-based goldsmithing company N3D, who explain that they are created it in order to “honor this world changing bird and demonstrate the craftsmanship of Vietnamese people.” Makes sense, since Dong is Vietnamese.

Farther down the listing, N3D add that proceeds from the sale of the bird will be used “to support people with difficult situation in Vietnam.” That’s pretty vague, but at least it sounds like they have some good intentions.

Solid Gold Flappy Bird

You’ve played the game. Now it’s time to own the bird–the actual Flappy Bird, that is, at least in 3D form. It’s no ordinary figure, though, as it’s crafted from no less than 14k solid gold.

Dong Nguyen might still be mulling over the decision to bring back Flappy Bird to the market, but the folks behind this the solid gold Flappy Bird are wasting no time in giving due recognition to the bird that has compelled countless people the world over to waste countless hours maneuvering it through the tunnels.

Flappy Bird Creator is ‘Considering’ Rereleasing the Game

Flappy Bird

After the popular mobile game Flappy Bird was taken off of the App Store and Google Play Marketplace, the game’s creator has now said that he may rerelease it.

Releasing a mobile title is not all fun and games. The majority of mobile titles don’t account for the millions in revenue that the app market as a whole continues to make, with its creators having to work hard to make them a continued success. For those mobile titles that do prove to be a hit, the hard work continues still as support and fan feedback make up a large part of a developer’s continued work on the game. Dong Nguyen, the Vietnam-based creator of Flappy Bird, a simple tap game that is both bright and colourful yet difficult to ‘master’, knows this well, as backlash to the difficulty of the game from fans as well as suggestions that his game may have stolen some art from Nintendo’s Super Mario games led Nguyen to receive a lot of hate. As a result, he took the game off of both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Marketplace, but now, in a new interview, Nguyen has revealed that he may just rerelease Flappy Bird.

Nguyen’s comments about a possible Flappy Bird rerelease were made during an interview with Rolling Stone, with him saying to the magazine that he is “considering it”, but his rereleased version of Flappy Bird would come with a “”warning [to] take a break!” Other than Nguyen’s comments to the magazine, the likelihood of a Flappy Bird rerelease is otherwise unclear as he also has several other games in production.

These games include an ‘untitled cowboy shooter’, ‘a vertical flying game called Kitty Jetpack’ and an “action chess game” called Checkonaught, which is reportedly set to be released this month. However, money may prove a good incentive for Nguyen to rerelease the game once these aforementioned in-development titles have been released as Flappy Bird reportedly earns him tens of thousands of dollars in revenue a day, so we’ll keep you posted once we know more.

Real Life Playable Flappy Bird Game

flappy bird irl Real Life Playable Flappy Bird Game
Flappy Bird might be inexplicably gone from the iTunes App Store but that tricky little flying bird still lives on- in real life. Fawn Qiu made this incredible working game in a weekend with an Arduino Duemilanove, 3 servo motors, 2 buttons, a speaker, a reed switch, and handful of rare earth magnets. Just like the video game, you move the bird up and down and try to avoid the pipes. Check out this video to see it in action:

It’s a Flappy Bird in a box hack. And it looks almost as (if not more) difficult than the real game. She’s even going for a Kickstarter to try to get these into production kit you can build yourself at home. Good luck with that!

Flappy Bird-Playing Robot Outsmarts Humans

Flappy Bird Robot

Two developers from the Shaanxi province of China wanted to prove that a robot could easily outwit humans when it comes to playing the short-lived addictive smartphone game that was Flappy Bird.

After this game became a phenomenon and disappeared suddenly both from Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store, various machines imitating it started appearing. Still, none is as impressive as the robot designed by Liu Yang and Shi Xuekun. In fact, this project is not imitating the game, but actually playing it on a tablet.

The robot that Yang and Xuekun built is indeed fascinating because of several reasons. First of all, its developers claim to have put it together in around 4 hours. If only they had come with the idea before the game vanished… However, this stands to show that talented people can turn ideas into tangible things in a very short time. Still, it was the simplicity of the design that enabled the two developers to make this robot in just a few hours.

The second jaw-dropping detail about the Flappy Bird-playing robot is that it was made using only a webcam, the arm of an old hard drive and the tip of a stylus. Who would have thought that kicking behinds at this game required such a little investment?

Ever since Vietnamese game developer Dong Nguyen removed his Flappy Bird from Play Store and App Store, a lot of clones based on the same principle sprung up. Google and Apple proceeded to banning all the apps containing the word ‘Flappy’ in their names, but some got through: Clumsy Bird, Floppy Bird, Clever Bird, and others. It’ll be interesting to see how Apple and Google will react to these.

As Chelsea Stark from Mashable suggests, there are plenty of other mobile games that have an addictive nature, some examples including Duet Game, Bee Leader, Impossible Road and What the Frog. While these made the list of recommendations simply because they can easily cause addiction, Flappy Doge, another game suggested by Chelsea, is a straight forward clone of Nguyen’s game. The latter should get some credit for including the Doge meme.

I’m shocked that no one thought of making a Flappy Bird clone featuring the Nyan Cat. Oh, wait!

How to Win at Flappy Bird

Flappy Bird image

Dong Nguyen’s game is famous for both its popularity and its difficulty but now, with our guide to Flappy Bird, you can win at one of the world’s hardest games.

Flappy Bird image

For a game with an entire concept that’s based around a bird with the most terrible flying skills since the dodo was around, Flappy Bird would, perhaps, be better off being called ‘aerially inept bird’, because no matter how hard you try, it probably seems like getting the game’s character through more than one or two sets of pipes seems impossible. But it’s not and you know it’s not, it’s just that the game is proving far more difficult that you initially thought and the horrible ‘thwack’ of Flappy Bird’s character hitting the floor or one of the game’s many green pipes is likely starting to grate. Read to our guide then, which can help you win at Flappy Bird.

1. Rhythm

Less in the way of a killer drum beat or a well-timed metronome, the very first point on this list comes through hours of Flappy Bird play. My score is pushing one hundred and it didn’t get like that by taking the game anything less than seriously. Analysing the title as a hit app showed me that the key way to win at Flappy Bird is by establishing a rhythm.

That might mean two taps of your thumb and then a rest or it might mean a quick fire succession of jumps and then a dip in the gap between the Flappy Bird pipes, but putting that rhythm in place is almost a surefire way to get the most out of the game. It also means that distractions would likely have to be limited, specifically music, as this can be a real off-putting factor to your Flappy Bird success, if only because the distraction of singing along can and will cause you to accidentally send your bird careening into the floor.

2. A Sturdy Platform

You’re on your way to work, the subway carriage is juddering and your Flappy Bird score may as we be in the minus numbers. Or, perhaps, you’re playing the game at your desk at work, spinning around in your desk chair both for your own amusement and so that your boss doesn’t see you ferreting valuable work time into a popular smartphone app. This will not do if you want your score to do anything but impress your peers.

Another key element to doing well in Flappy Bird is simply to rest your arm or wrist or hand on something as you play, to keep both your screen still and your attention focused. The Super Mario-esque background that the game’s developer included can easily become a blur and a tight grip on your smartphone and an arm kept as rock solid as a marble quarry can help you achieve to Flappy Bird greatness.

3. Focus

Unlike the first point in which I pointed out the disadvantages of Flappy Bird distractions, this type of focus is actually more specific. When playing the game, don’t watch the pipes, watch the bird.

It may be a difficult feat, given that the pipes are, after all, the primary source of danger in the game, but in focusing upon the bird, you actually yourself in a much better position to maneuverer it than if you were looking to avoid the obstacles. For example, when playing any other game, you might focus on the enemies and not the lead character, but this is one of the reasons why Flappy Bird is so difficult; it’s difficult to change the preconceive notions have about games and their difficulties, but doing the opposite of what those other gaming titles are doing is exactly what could allow you to succeed in Flappy Bird.

4. Thumbs

Despite all of the other ways in which we use our smartphones, Flappy Bird is not really designed to a be a two thumb game. We read blogs with two thumbs, we scroll with two thumbs and we type out messages about our lunch on social media sites with two thumbs, but in Flappy Bird, that is most definitely not the way to play.

Going off of the suggestion about rhythm, using anything other than your dominant thumb to play the game (or simultaneous use of your right and left thumbs) could disturb this rhythm, making it all the more difficult to reach success in the game. Another example is that it can actually help up your game if you use your weaker hand to support the device you are playing Flappy Bird on rather than struggling to hold your phone in a position that leaves it to be top heavy, as the weight of the unsupported bit of your phone is only going to keep you from that all impressing Flappy Bird score.
