A Dyson-inspired mosquito-repelling device that sticks under your table to keep the bugs away!

Conceptualized using the design language and semantics of Dyson, this mosquito-repelling device uses the natural flow of air to keep mosquitos away and an adhesive backing that keeps the device out of view when dining!

There’s nothing worse than sharing a meal with a table full of mosquitoes. With eating outside becoming more popular as sidewalk dining areas crop up in response to COVID-19 restrictions, the bugs seem to be following suit. Ahead of the summer months, designers are taking to the drawing board for some modern solutions. Conceptualized using the design language and semantics of Dyson, WuShuai, a Beijing-based industrial designer, designed a battery-operated mosquito-repelling device that can adhere to the underside of any table.

Envisioned for restaurants with outdoor seating, WuShuai’s mosquito-repelling device is currently conceptualized to cling onto the underside of tables, automatically buzzing on as soon as it adheres to a surface. Using the design language and semantics of Dyson led WuShuai to develop their mosquito-repelling device on the background of airflow. A low-power fan located in the center of the device, “is used to accelerate the volatilization of the mosquito repellent, so that the mosquito repellent can be powered by a battery.”

Containing the device’s power operations inside of a battery-operated pack allows for portability and wireless operation, making it a convenient choice for busy city hubs like restaurants and cafes. By maintaining a wireless and portable design, the mosquito-repelling device can remain hidden from view when in use.

Waiters can simply adhere and remove the device from the table’s underside as customers need it, “When the device is adsorbed under the dining table, it will automatically start to work. The waiter can remove the device and place it on the table when no one is dining at the table. The battery can be easily removed, and all the batteries can be stacked together for charging.”

This contemporary lamp + mosquito killing design is an aesthetic way to stay itch-free!

It’s safe to say that mosquitoes are probably one of the most disliked species of bugs in existence today. Mosquito spray and bug zappers stock the shelves of convenience and grocery stores during the warmer seasons, with the latter solution being the most popular option. After rendering their take on the bug zapper, PUURFUN LIN produced a mosquito killer lamp visual design that’s stylish in appearance and effective in purpose.

The finished design is sleek, contemporary, and suitable for either indoor or outdoor spaces. Inspired by expandable lanterns and handheld lamps, this take on the bug zapper is as chic as it is reliable and resembles a minuscule, cyborg, silent assassin. Doubling as a lamp, this device provides enough lighting for an evening spent outside on the porch or one spent inside, reading a book with the windows open. In addition to the design’s light features, it also zaps bugs. Mosquitoes are irresistibly attracted to the lamp’s ultraviolet light rays, which then brings them to the device’s killing snare. As the mosquitoes fly closer towards the ultraviolet light, a killing entrapment takes care of the pest so summer nights can carry on without worry. This portable mosquito killer lamp fits in nicely amongst other household objects as its shape, structure, and color scheme is subdued and unassuming, but attractive and minimal in its presentation. Being that this design is both a lamp and a mosquito trap, the final product is wireless and portable, making it easy to transfer from place to place.

Nothing gets in the way of a relaxing, warm evening like pesky mosquitoes. No matter the endless rows of citronella candles or cups of DEET bug-repellent, mosquitoes just keep on coming. Devices like this one, from PUURFUN LIN, are imperative to make those summer nights feel a lot less itchy and much more enjoyable, keeping the looming threat of those tiny bloodsuckers away for good.

Turn It On… Mosquitoes Gone!

There are two steps I take before venturing outdoors. Sunscreen, and a mosquito repellent. The sunscreen is more of a precaution, but there’s a whole world of regret that awaits you if you skip out on the mosquito repellent. What if, like you do indoors, you could push a button and drive the mosquitoes away? That was pretty much the design brief behind the Radius, a portable mosquito repelling gizmo that gives you a 110 square foot zone of safety from nasty bites, terrible rashes, and diseases.

The Radius was designed to give you instant safety from the rising tide of mosquitoes outdoors. With temperatures rising across the world, mosquitoes end up breeding faster and living longer, not to mention the birth of new diseases practically every year. The aim of Radius was to be a quick-action and long-lasting solution to other mosquito repellents. No more sprays and creams, or mosquito repellent tags that just work for half a day. The Radius protects every inch of your body from mosquitoes at the literal press of a button. Its repellent creates a 10ft. wide spherical barrier against mosquitoes (enough to protect 2 or more people), while the battery on the inside can power up the repellent for up to 40 hours.

Radius uses an EPA-approved advanced pyrethroid that is highly effective, scent-free and is activated at a low temperature. It comes with a battery that powers it when you need it and shuts it off when you’re back indoors. The device protects every inch of your self without needing to spray or apply repellents (which works great for people with sensitive skin), and with a battery life and refill life of 40 hours, it’s great to use over weekends… Now only if there were a convenient, switch-powered sunscreen device to match!

Radius uses an EPA-approved pyrethroid active ingredient. Pyrethroids are based on a naturally occurring repellent found in the chrysanthemum flower. This natural repellent from the chrysanthemum flower has been used to fight insects for millennia – dating back to ancient Egyptian times.

A lithium-ion battery powers an internal heating element that silently warms and activates the repellent. Once activated, the repellent disperses to create an invisible zone of protection that keeps mosquitoes from entering into your outdoor space. And it works continuously, releasing fresh repellent to maintain the zone of protection around you.
