Indiana Jones Golden Idol Replica: Throw Me the Money, I’ll Throw You the Whip!

The opening sequence of Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the most memorable in the history of motion pictures. It’s got a rolling boulder, poison darts, subterfuge, crumbling rocks, and even a big snake named Reggie. Why did it have to be snakes? It’s all about the quest for a golden idol, which kicks off all the action.

Now you can skip all the chaos, and just buy a golden fertility idol for your own bookshelf.

This unofficial replica of the shiny metal Chachapoyan fertility idol is a dead ringer for the one in the classic Spielberg movie, though in this case, it’s made from polystone with metallic paints, rather than actual gold. It measures 7″ tall, and weighs in at roughly 1.16 pounds – so that’s how much sand you’ll need to bring with you if you plan on trying to remove it from its pedestal without triggering all of the booby traps.

Prizehunters, head on over to Amazon, where you can find your own golden idol, and have it shipped right to your doorstep.

An Incredible LEGO Recreation of the Opening of “Raiders of the Lost Ark”

There are very few scenes in cinema history that are as cool and unique as the opening sequence from Raiders of the Lost Ark. This, in a movie that is full of iconic scenes. In the 80s, kids everywhere were pretending that they were being chased by a boulder for years. Now, this amazing scene has been recreated in LEGO.

It was built by Caleb Watson and it is full of impressive detail. It has everything that the scene on screen had: The jungle outside, the plane, the sliding stone door, the swing over the pit, skeletons, the golden idol room and more. It’s everything that a LEGO/Indy fan could want in a LEGO set. Be sure to check out Beyond the Brick’s video tour of this impressive diorama:

This scene has six different motors that animate minifigs and booby traps, as well as cycle the rolling boulder back into position. As far as I’m concerned it’s a LEGO masterpiece. I would love to see what this guy could do with Temple of Doom and am looking forward to monkey brains, mine carts and of course, a LEGO Mola Ram pulling a heart out of a chest.

Raiders of the Lost Ark Melting Toht Candle

At last you can simulate looking into the Ark of the Covenant in the comfort of your own home. And safely. With this Melting Toht Candle you can make this movie baddie burn every night.

This is a cool gift for fans of Raiders of the Lost Ark. This candle lets you celebrate one of the greatest deaths in cinema history. Luckily it doesn’t melt as fast as it happened in the movie. That way you can really enjoy seeing this evil movie Nazi burn.

He is nicely detailed with his spectacles and fedora – though not for long. Get it for about $31(USD) from Firebox and let Toht melt forever in your heart.

3D Printed Ark of the Covenant: Raiders of the Lost Tech

Raiders of the Lost Ark is still one of my favorite movies of all time, and at the center of that film was the quest for the mysterious lost Ark of the Covenant. Now, you can own your own miniature version of the Ark, intricately crafted using 3D printing technology.

3d printed ark covenant

This mini version of the Ark was created using a 3D printer, and is made from 10-karat gold-plated stainless steel. It’s amazingly detailed, with every little nook and cranny down to the winged creatures on the top. It was made by Canadian artist Matthew C. of Geomatrix Studio, and measures 7.8″(L) x 4″(W) x 3.4″(H).

Due to the gold-plating, it’s very expensive, selling for $3400 Canadian Dollars (~$3514 USD). However, Matthew will also take special orders for the Ark in antique bronze or stainless steel, with prices starting at $800 Canadian (~$805 USD). That’s still way less expensive and dangerous than traveling around the world on a quest against a bunch of hateful Nazis. Speaking of which, I wonder if this thing would melt the faces off of evil action figures.

Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures Blu-ray set hits shelves September 18th

Indiana Jones The Complete Adventures Bluray set has a release date, September 18th

Fans of the Indiana Jones series already got the good news in March that the flicks are finally coming to Blu-ray this year, and now we know when. Paramount has set September 18th as the release date, and also finally revealed cover art for the set, seen above... yeah, that's really it. No matter how cartoony it is (or how mind-numbing Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was) we're sure some will still be lining up when it ships. For their trouble, they can expect a "meticulously restored" edition of Raiders of the Lost Ark, after a process supervised by director Steven Spielberg and sound designer Ben Burtt. This has included a 4K scan of the original negatives, as well as a revisiting to the original audio mix, with music tracks and sound effects that had previously only been used in mono upgraded to stereo surround for the 5.1 DTS-HD MA track. Check after the break for a press release with more details on the restoration and a trailer for the boxed set, or head to Amazon where the price is currently sitting at $90 to preorder.

Ark of the Covenant Cake: Eat It with Your Eyes Closed

Somehow, somebody rescued this Ark of the Covenent cake from a government warehouse full of relics and now it is time to eat. Okay, so it wasn’t really liberated from the warehouse at the end of the movie, but baked fresh.

It was made by Charm City Cakes for a wedding and no Nazis were harmed in it’s procurement. It did not melt any faces either. I don’t know about you, but I would risk being melted just to get a slice of this cake. Just look at that golden delicious biblical confection.

I bet it holds the ten commandments of geekdom within it’s sugary insides. The snakes (why did it have to be snakes?) and sand are a particularly nice touch, although the cobra looks like it has a silly face. This is one awesome cake. It must have been a great wedding.
