From the “these kids are cooler than your kids” department comes this homemade AT-AT Walker rocking horse. Jen from Epbot created this awesome Star Wars piece with her husband. The AT-AT is made from 40 individually cut pieces of MDF. As pictured it’s only partially completed- it still needs handlebars, a seat, and a paint job. So cool and that’s one lucky geeky kid who gets to rock on that thing. (via nerd approved)

AT-AT Rocking Horse: for Imperial Troops in Training

Rocking horses are so last century. Let your child rock with the might of the Empire with this Rocking AT-AT. How do you think General Veers got started? Start them young and they will pilot the Empire’s best vehicles and crush the rebellion.

Jen from EPBOT, along with her husband, are making this cute rocking AT-AT. The couple started with a template and cut over 40 pieces out of fiber board. The picture above is of their test assembly. It isn’t finished yet. They have to make sure it’s safe to ride and add paint, probably outfit it with some new Snowspeeder defenses. It looks amazing already.

It sure would look great alongside a tauntaun rocking horse.

Rocking Horse Tauntauns: I Want to Rock and Roll All Night and Party on Hoth Every Day!

There is something special about old timey toys like rocking horses. They are simple and require a child to use their imagination. No fancy lights or voice activation here. Just good old fashioned play. Well, if you like the simplicity of the rocking horse, but want a geeky spin on it, look no further. I present to you the Tauntaun rocking horse.

They don’t smell like the real thing, thankfully and will provide hours of rocking fun, while you pretend that you are on Hoth. I’m not sure who made these, but they are awesome, and whoever did it needs to step forward so we can give them the credit they deserve.

Heck, I would use one of these as a chair and rock all day while I work. Kids shouldn’t have all the fun.

A Rocking Horse With Roots

Sitting itself is kinda boring, but design shouldn’t be… it should be fun! That’s the philosophy behind this modern interpretation of the classic Panton chair. To  preserving the timeless character of the chair, the designers have avoided decorating it arbitrarily. The chair becomes an integral part of the design, as it would have been intended as a rocking horse by Panton in 1959. Original materials of the chair combined with locally grown wood, (in contrast to the dark fabric & metal) communicate elegance & lightness.

Literally Rocking Minimal

Designer Jeppe Worsøe Andersen’s rocking horse transforms an iconic, familiar fragment into a sleek, modern design with a minimalist aesthetic. Inspired by Danish designer Poul Kjaerholm’s famed PK-0 chair, this rocker is both radical in aesthetic and thoughtful in construction. The result is a striking blend of materials including dark, form-bent cherry wood and polished steel that make it a solid, functional toy as well as a sculptural accent for the modern home.

Reductive Rocking Horse

The essence of the iconic rocking horse is instantly recognizable in this minimal twist by Remko Verhaagen and Stephen Boom for Blooey. Maybe not as comfortable as the original style, but it’s easy to produce, ship and put together. It might not look anything like the rocking horse that you and I grew up with, but modern design-minded kids and parents will love it!

Steel Pony Rocker

The rocking horse is one design that has been a bit played out as there hasn’t been much variation in either shape or style since it first started appearing in homes. This abstract take on the rocker puts emphasis on the structure in a stainless steel version that symbolizes the mere essence of the classic rocking horse. The bare-bones frame is complimented by a braided leather strip seat that gives a subtle nod to its archetypal inspiration.
