Throughout all his adventures, Sherlock Holmes’ iconic pipe is perhaps the most memorable recurring element. It’s also the inspiration for cigar pipe maker Peterson of Dublin’s popular Sherlock Holmes Series loved by pipe smokers.

To commemorate their 150th anniversary, designer Jong Hyuk Bae developed this next-gen pipe that’s perfect for today! An abstraction of elegant pipes of the past, this vaporizer’s form takes a modern twist that sleek and minimal. Sherlock Holmes is also well-known for his iconic deerstalker hunting cap. The hat’s character lines fall smoothly from the top to the brim of the cap and the designer applied this iconic shape to the design.

The led indicator on the bowl interacts to the inhalation of the pipe, making a swirl of light just like the original pipe. This essential design element gives vapers to feel the analog sentiments of original pipes.

The Hubble Bubble, Reimagined

etna_01

The hookah has been a part of worldwide culture for almost a thousand years but that does”t mean it can’t be improved! The ETNA hookah combines traditions of the past with technologies of the future. The design simplifies the smoking process with ready-to-use tobacco capsules – simply choose your desired flavor, puncture the capsule and place it in the cup. Users can also control the internal temperature of the bowl with with a special heater – just a turn of the handle which enlarges or reduces the size of the holes in the cover. As for its all-new aesthetic, the pattern is reminiscent of sand dunes, mirages in hot air, or swirling smoke.

Colin Furze’s Flamethrowing Guitar & Smoking Bass: Through the Fire & Vapes

The crazy inventor Colin Furze promoted Intel’s new TV series America’s Greatest Makers by making a flamethrowing guitar and a bass that’s literally smoking. He may be a Brit, but he’s a great maker all right.

Colin actually made not one, not two, but four mods for this promotion. For the flamethrowing guitar, Colin attached three blowtorch heads to the head of a guitar. He then installed several pipes, a gas reservoir, an igniter and a solenoid valve on the guitar’s body. He can trigger the flames manually, but he also used an Arduino 101 and a program where he can set flame patterns for automated operation.

In keeping with his theme, Colin mounted the Arduino 101 as well as a gas tank inside a guitar amplifier, so that the sound, the electronics and the gas are all coming from one box.

The smoking bass is simpler but no less cool. Colin routed smoke from a smoke machine to holes that he drilled on the guitar’s body, as well as to pipes along the instrument’s neck and head. He added a computer fan to the mouth of the smoke machine to push the smoke along and prevent the hot vapor from melting the plastic pipe that connects to the bass. He also mounted the smoke machine and a bass amp into a single base, and attached strobe lights to the guitar to take it to 11.

We just saw Mad Axes: Furze Road.

Smoking-Stopper Wants to Help You Kick the Habit

Quitting smoking can be one of the hardest things you will ever do. Fortunately, French company RegulSmoke has unveiled a new smart device at CES 2016 called Smoking-Stopper. This connected device and mobile app tracks smoking behavior and controls consumption in real-time, which is said to help you ultimately kick the habit.

They claim that Smoking-Stopper increases the likelihood of a smoker’s chances of completely kicking the habit by focusing on their smoking behavior. The device and app were designed by engineers and tobacco treatment specialists. All you do is place a standard size pack of cigarettes in the connected case which then synchronizes with the mobile app, which creates a customized smoking cessation program for each user to help them reach their daily goals.

Once the process has started, the connected device will only open and close based on the user’s profile and goals. So it basically locks you out from your cigarettes, except when you’re permitted to take a puff. The app will set goals accordingly to reduce daily consumption and will also offer advice based on four key factors, physical, emotional, behavioral and psychological. It seems like a good idea, but if someone wants a smoke bad enough, they are just going to get their smokes elsewhere. Still, it might help some people quit.
