SNES Classic Release Date Announced

So it looks like the rumors are true. Nintendo is getting ready to launch the SNES Classic, a miniature version of the original Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

Now we have learned that the palm-sized system will be available on September 29th with 21 games built-in, including the never-released Star Fox 2. That is enough reason to get one all by itself. It will sell for for $80(USD) and includes two controllers.

Other games included are Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Donkey Kong Country, F-Zero, Super Metroid, Mega Man X, Yoshi’s Island and more.

Interestingly, it looks like the European edition will be styled differently, just like the original SNES was:

Nintendo May Make an SNES Mini

Nintendo recently decided to retire the NES Classic Mini, even though many people still want one and can’t find one. It was a hit last Christmas, but stock problems made it very hard to acquire. Now, Nintendo decided to kill it completely. Sad news for fans, but good news for collectors and eBay sellers. Now Eurogamer is reporting that a Super Nintendo Mini may be in the works. That should make you feel better.

If we can believe the report, the new hardware is scheduled to launch this holiday season, and development is already underway. It makes sense, since this is now a money machine for Nintendo. Maybe we will even get a mini N64, then a mini Gamecube, then a mini Wii after the SNES.

Take it with a grain of salt for now, but Eurogamer has a great track record. If you missed out on a Classic Mini, maybe you can get an SNES Mini.

This SNES Micro Was Sculpted from Clay, Plastic and a Raspberry Pi

I played the heck out of the Super Nintendo back in the day. If you want to get in on some classic emulation in a package much smaller than the original SNES, this is for you. Rated-E mods has put together a very small emulation system that looks like a SNES but has the heart of a Raspberry Pi Zero.

The bulk of the project was building a clay and plastic case to hold the tiny circuit board. Its maker started by cutting up a sheet of plastic for the frame. He then covered the chassis with clay and allowed it to cure.

After curing was done, he sanded the case and applied Bondo to fill all the cracks. Modeling paint was then used to color the case, and the electronics were added with epoxy and elbow grease. The final product is a small and very cool emulator that I’d love to play.

16 Bit Controller Doormat

16 bit game controller doormat
This doormat really pushes all the right buttons (and no we’re not talking about the doorbell, although maybe we should be). Wipe those geek feet on a 16 Bit Controller Doormat. They say this doormat is “inspired” by one of their favorite classic consoles, so the Mario Bros. don’t come lawyering up at their doorstep. Well we’ll be the ones to say flat out that it looks just like a SNES controller doormat.

Relieve those glory early 90′s days of Super Nintendo every time you wipe your feet. (SNES is almost 25 years old this year, can you believe that?) Doormat measures 13 3/4″ tall x 30″ across and is made of 100% polyester and 75% old schoolness.
