Sushi Burger: Filet-O-Raw-Fish

I was once at CES and had a day so busy that I walked like billion miles and I didn’t have time to eat. It just so happened that I was invited out to dinner and was promised a steak. I was happy, at least until the last minute when the vendor decided at the last minute to serve sushi instead. I hate fish when it’s cooked, much less when raw. Starving as I was, I ate it. For all I know, it may have been $1,500 sushi, but I’ll never do that again.

Even thinking about the eel I ate makes me gag a little, and and this Sushi burger from Japan makes me throw up in my mouth. Unlike a real hamburger, the Saba Burger has got a piece of raw mackerel with skin on it instead of a beef patty.

Along with the fish, it has sushi vinegar rice, shiso,  something green, and wasabi-mayo sauce. Pass. If you happen to be in Japan, you can get yours at Sushiro.

Rainbow Sushi is Colorfully Raw

Sushi lovers and vegans have a lot in common in so far as both groups want to be damn sure that you know what they like to eat. If the word “fish” is uttered, sushi fans will tell you how they love sashimi. Run across a green cellophane wrapper blowing across the parking lot and a few grains of rice and sushi lovers will imbue you details on how great this California roll was this one time. I’m not a fan of raw things personally, I prefer a nicely grilled steak.

Before anyone says, “If you tried good sushi you would like it,” I have tried good sushi before at a place called Sushi Samba at the Venetian in Las Vegas. It was gross, I do not like eel, yellowfin, or any raw fish.

Tiny Sushi Being Prepared Is So Cute It Will Affect You Deeply

If you like tiny things, you’re going to love this video of tiny sushi being prepared. As it turns out, I am not physically or emotionally equipped to handle such things so if you don’t mind me, I’m going to go lie down. Possibly for forever.

Star Trek Enterprise Sushi Set

uss enterprise sushi
One way to live long and prosper is by eating lots of sushi. There are many ways to eat sushi: Riker style (leg over a chair), Spock style (using the Vulcan salute fingers), Capt. Kirk style (beamed directly into your mouth) or Picard style (warp speed, nothing on top). But the best way is with a Star Trek Enterprise Sushi Set. Modeled after the famed U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, this set has everything your geeky mouth needs to enjoy that Japanese delicacy.

You get a wooden sushi plate, chopsticks that look like the ship is at warp speed, and a soy sauce dish. Remove the top of the Enterprise’s saucer section to reveal your sauce dish. I’m pretty sure that’s why it’s called a “saucer” section. The body of the ship even rotates so you can place your soy sauce just right for dipping. The ship is made of stainless steel, the chopsticks are BPA-free and the wooden base is made of… wood.

Star Trek Enterprise Sushi Set Boldly Goes Where No Raw Fish…

starship_enterprise_sushi_1

Oh, we hate bad headlines as much as the next guy, but sometimes it’s as if they write themselves, especially when it comes to Star Trek stuff. So you’ll have to forgive us. It doesn’t change the fact that the above Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise Sushi Set is pretty awesome. You set the food down on the wooden plate, and use the ship’s warp trail as chopsticks. The top of the saucer section comes off to reveal a sauce dish, and you can rotate the ship so that it doesn’t get in the way of your grub. Best part is that it’ll only set you back $35, which is more than reasonable for what seems to be a Thinkgeek creation and an exclusive.

Star Trek Enterprise Sushi Set: Boldly Eat Raw Fish

I’ve had sushi a few times and it’s not really my thing. I can’t even say that the first place I had sushi was bad, it was a super fancy sushi place in one of the fancy hotels in Vegas during CES. I was starving so I scarfed it down with some marketing schlep footing the bill (it ended up being about $2,000 for six people). It was ok, but I don’t really have the desire to eat raw eel or salmon again.

Some folks love sushi and if you fall into that category, you need this Starship Enterprise sushi set. It includes a wooden board to set your raw fish and rice on. The top of the stainless steel saucer section lifts off to give you a place for your sauce. The warp trails coming from the engines are actually chopsticks. It’s pretty awesome.

The set measures 14.9″ x 3.5″ x 4.5″ and you can get one for $34.99(USD) over at ThinkGeek. The only downside I see is that the sauce bowl is less than half an inch deep, I like my sauce.

Kitchen Towels Look Like Sushi Rolls

These kitchen towels that look like sushi when rolled up would be a cute addition to your decor. They are the creation of Jenny Pokryvailo, the designer who also brought us the Nessie ladle.

I guess you could use them to dry yourself off, or better yet to wipe up spills of soy sauce and wasabi. No matter how you use them you are probably a fan of sushi if you have these around.

Sadly, you can’t buy these yet, but you never know. Maybe they will be mass produced at some point since people would obviously love these in their home. How could these not become a reality?
