Disney World Gets Updated Test Track Ride

Chevrolet and engineers from Disney World have been working together for 18 months to create a new ride at Epcot Center. The attraction is called the Test Track Presented by Chevrolet and it opened this week. The goal of the ride is to allow visitors to get an idea of what goes into designing a Chevrolet vehicle, and replaces the old GM Test Track ride that opened back in 1999.

The ride has three different major components with guests first having the opportunity to design their own vehicle. The vehicle can be a car, truck, or crossover. The next step is getting visitors a chance to test drive the vehicle design through a roller-coaster-like ride on track surfaces that simulate actual vehicle validation processes that Chevrolet uses.

The last step is giving the guests an opportunity to race their vehicle over changing terrain and in extreme conditions on a digital driving simulation to compare them to others. Visitors also get a chance to produce and share a TV commercial starring the custom vehicle and pose for action shots in front of their car. Check out the complete ride in the video below (spoilers).

Z World Zombie Theme Park Could Make Abandoned Detroit a Cool Place to Visit

I’m sure most of us have watched zombie shows such as The Walking Dead and wondered if we would be able to survive a zombie apocalypse. An entrepreneur named Mark Siwak has a seriously awesome idea for a theme park that would let you find out how you would fare if zombies were to attack. The man has a plan to make a theme park using abandoned and derelict areas of Detroit called Z World.

zombie hoard

The idea is that people would come to the theme park in pay to enter a 200-acre apocalyptic style abandoned urban setting where you can run and hide from zombies to your heart’s content. The idea would be to see if you can take refuge in the abandoned buildings and survive the zombie horde. Sadly, you won’t be able to try out your Crovel at Z World.

Siwak believes that this theme park could employ hundreds or even thousands of people in the Detroit area to shuffle around in zombie makeup and work other areas of the park. However, some think the plan is nothing more than an attempt to capitalize on Detroit’s woes. Apparently, Detroit has lost approximately area 1.1 million citizens since 1950 leaving massive areas uninhabited and crumbling. That sounds like the perfect place for a zombie theme park to me. For now, we’ll have to settle for this.

Theme Park Lets You Drive Your Own Tank!

I don’t know about you, but ever since I saw the 1984 movie called Tank with James Garner, I’ve had a desire to drive a tank for myself. I think it would be awesome to drive the tank and if they let me shoot its gigantic gun, I might have a nerdgasm. Well, as it turns out, there’s a park in southern Minnesota that can fulfill your tank-driving dreams.

tank drive

The business is called, aptly enough, Drive-a-Tank and offers any driver the chance to get behind the controls of surplus military tanks and other armored vehicles. The park allows you to drive them around an old limestone quarry and you can even smash junk cars.

The tanks used at the park are Cold War era surplus items and there are now 11 different vehicles available on the 20-acre site. The site is 50 miles southwest of Minneapolis if you’re thinking about going. A basic package that lets you drive the tank and shoot a machine gun is $399. You can also go for more expensive packages that let you drive several vehicles and shoot other weapons including assault rifles. If you want to smash your own junker car with the tank, you need to cough up $549. If you want even more, for $3500 you can drive the tank through a trailer house.

Star Wars Land Coming to Disneyland Paris?

Rumor has it that Star Wars Land is coming to Disneyland Paris (and I will likely never get a chance to see it.) I had an incident there once involving beating a mime with a baguette. Don’t ask. The Paris version of Disneyland sounds awesome. Did you know they have an Indiana Jones ride? A Finding Nemo rollercoaster? And now a Star Wars themed section is said to be coming soon.

A Star Wars theme park in Paris would be pretty amazing. It is rumored to be coming to Disneyland Paris in 2015, so the Imagineers are probably working hard on all of the details right now. I imagine there will be an Ewok Village, a Millenium Falcon ride and hopefully a game where you can beat Jar Jar repeatedly.

I would settle for nothing less than beating Jar Jar myself. It should be a fun place. Hopefully we will get more details soon. (Note: the concept sketch above is just that, and not representative of the actual park.)
