Wedding Ring Has a Piece of the Moon in It

Anyone can buy a diamond, but it takes a determined individual to buy a piece of the moon – that person being artist Andrew Johnstone. In this case, it also helps that Johnstone also happened to be the lead designer of this year’s annual Burning Man arts festival which is held at Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.

So you might be wondering: what does the Burning Man have to do with the moon? In Johnstone’s case, everything, because that’s how he came to know a meteorite dealer in Hawaii who sold him a piece of lunar rock (0.32 grams of Tranquillityite, to be specific) that he would use for his wife-to-be’s wedding ring. Johnstone had the ring 3D printed and the hand on its face holds the tiny bit of lunar rock.

Johnstone explains that his fiance (and now, wife) was a science teacher and “not a diamond girl,” so he chose to skip diamond rings in lieu of the moon rock. Pretty awesome ring, don’t you think?

Star Wars Wedding Rings: Do You Take This Droid?

When getting married with Star Wars rings, you certainly have many choices nowadays, but for my money, nothing beats putting a Rancor on her finger. Maybe some women would prefer a restraining bolt for the groom to always remind him to restrain himself and be faithful too.

These are but a few of sixteen officially-licensed Star Wars ring designs by JAP, a Japanese design firm. They also have Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Ackbar, Jabba the Hutt and more. The Rancor is the best though. Nothing says marriage like being dropped into a pit with a huge ferocious beast.

An Ewok ring might be good too. A reminder that even if your significant other is small, they can still be ferocious and you should always be on guard.

Pony and Brony Wedding Rings: Jewelry is Magic

Ponies and Bronies getting married? I guess it does happen. Friendship is magic after all, and can lead to marriage if you find the right pony. These rings were made by Jason, a metalsmith who makes My Little Pony-themed jewelry and sells it over on Etsy. pony rings 620x484magnify

He made these rings for Samantha J. Stroh and her fiance. Jason designed the rings with 3Design CAD/CAM software and formed them with a milling machine. The woman’s ring has the cutie mark of Princess Cadence and the men’s ring has a cutie mark of Shining Armor. If you are a fan, you will know that those ponies were married in the episode “A Canterlot Wedding.”

You learn something new everyday. In fact, my manliness is leveling down as I write this.

Something Old, Something Otherworldly: Meteorite and Dinosaur Leg Bone Wedding Ring

Dinosaur Bone Wedding Ring

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. This is one of the wedding traditions most brides go through because first of all, there’s no harm in having all of those elements around at the wedding. Second, why tempt bad luck when it’s easy enough, anyway? One thing that happens to be old, new, and borrowed (but not blue) is this meteorite and dinosaur leg bone wedding ring.

As the name implies, it was created using bits of meteorite and dinosaur leg bone set in gold and titanium. The unique ring was designed and created by Distinctly Johan, giving a strange albeit really cool twist to the traditional wedding band.

They have a variety of other unusual and truly unique rings on sale. This particular one with the meteorite and dinosaur bone costs $1,085.

Zelda Wedding Rings: A Link to Your Soulmate

If you’re thinking about getting married, and both you and your significant other are into classic video games, then I can’t think of anything better than these Zelda wedding bands as a symbol of your undying commitment to love, honor, and cherish one another (and occasionally dust off the old NES console together.)

Even if your names aren’t Link and Zelda, you’ll still want to wear these rings. They’re actually quite elegant from the outside, and only those in the know will realize the meaning of the Triforce on them. One of them is inscribed with “It’s Dangerous” and the other with “To Go Alone.” Awwwwww. That’s so sweet, I think I just threw up a little bit in my mouth. But seriously, these rings are pretty swell.

These were custom made by Toronto jewelry artist Zsolt Székely. They don’t list the pricing for these exact rings on their website, but says that their rings range from $295 for sterling silver designs up to $5000 and beyond for precious metals and diamonds. That’s a whole lot of rupees if you ask me, but well worth the price for something you’ll both cherish for years to come.
