Frozen Fishes In Ice

I love the illusion that the Ice Cube tank proposes; imagine the stunned expressions when people discover that the cube is an ice deception and that your fishes are swimming in safe waters. A clever perception and very Fred ‘n Friends kinda design; got to hand it to Arthur for making us look at the lighter side of life!

Gun-Shaped Ice Cube Tray Lets You Ice Your Friends, Literally.

Next time you throw a cocktail party with a prohibition-era, Boardwalk Empire theme, I’ve got the perfect thing for you. Instead of serving up your drinks with regular ice cubes in them, try putting some gun-shaped ones in their cocktails.

gun ice cube tray

All you need is this cheap silicone ice mold from DealExtreme and you can make ice cubes in the shape of tiny handguns. I guess they’re not cubes when they’re shaped like guns, though. You can also use the mold to make gun-shaped candy and chocolate, but I don’t recommend that you try and take your creations through the TSA checkpoint at the airport, unless you get a thrill from a full-body-cavity search.

Polar Bear in your Freezer

This clever ice cube tray takes the form of everyone’s favorite arctic animal- the polar bear! Simply fill it like a water bottle and throw it in the freezer. Because it’s sealed, it prevents the ice from absorbing the odors of your fridge or particles from other food items. You don’t even have to touch the cubes to remove- just bang it on the counter to loosen the cubes and they’ll fall right out.

The Cube Tube Improves Upon the Ordinary Ice Tray

I use ice cubes regularly (who doesn’t?) but I find filling up the ice trays after all the ice has been used up to be quite the chore. There’s the task of having to pour water slowly into each compartment and make sure it’s not too full or not too empty, before slowly walking back to the freezer to put the tray back in. There’s also the mess and sanitation risk of having to handle each cube by hand.

Cube Tube
A neat solution to this is the Cube Tube. It’s basically a square-shaped container that you’re supposed to fill with water. Then you insert the divider that does all the work for you, twist it in to seal it, and pop the entire thing into the freezer. And voila, you’re done! No muss, no fuss, and definitely no spillage.

Pretty convenient, right?

They’re not for sale yet, although the projected price for these Cube Tubes are about $7 to $8 when they go into production. For the convenience it brings, I’d say that’s a reasonable price. Check them out on Quirky for more information.

Death Star Ice Cubes Seem Ridiculously Easy for Rebels to Destroy

I always thought that the fact that the original Death Star had a giant weak spot in the middle that made it blow up was stupid. You’d think they’d design these things to be less susceptible to attack. But instead of improving upon the original design, the Japanese have gone ahead and made a Death Star that can be demolished by simply dropping it on the ground – or exposing it to heat. Yep, what you’re looking at here is the official Death Star ice cube sphere.

The guys at Kotobukiya have created this special round ice tray which can cast a perfect replica of the original Death Star. Just snap the two halves together, pour in your water, and freeze. You’ll soon have your very own icy Death Star, measuring in at about 60mm in diameter (~2.36 inches.) That’s way easier than having to hire a clone army to build one for you.

Kotobukiya plans on releasing the silicone ice mold this August for ¥1050 (~$13 USD), and I’m hopeful they’ll start to show up outside of Japan shortly thereafter. It’s like the Death Star and Hoth got together and had a baby! Isn’t it darling?
