Ready, set, brew!!

Kettles that whistle are too conventional. Not to mention, noisy too. What you need is something not just discreet, but classy too. The Flag kettle does its share of theatrics to tell you your drink has brewed. It raises a flag. Now isn’t that just one talented kettle? Who says only mailboxes are allowed to be this awesome with flags?!

The Flag Kettle is the recipient of the Red Dot Award for the year 2015.

A Cooler Alternative Kettle

trapeze_01

The Trapèze Kettle aims to be a simpler interpretation of the modern electric kettle, relating closely to traditional stovetop kettles by incorporating higher quality materials as well as straightforward functionality and aesthetics.

The open trapezoidal shape is the kettles most unique feature. The handle is directly inline with one of the kettles leading edges which acts as its pouring lip. The open top indicates where the kettle should be filled and importantly, visually promotes the disposal of stale water and cleaning the interior more often.

The body is a single sheet of folded Aluminium, with a reinforced underside. The interior is coated with Stainless Steel The handle comprises of hollow, matte Polypropylene which follows the direction of the kettles body. The base, which houses the electromagnet componentry, comprises of injection moulded Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS)

The boiling aspect of the kettle is performed by induction, which is more electrically efficient than both standard hob kettle boiling and electric elements. Though a new development, induction heating is a system that will have a great impact in the near future.

Guilt-free Tea

ferv_01

It might not seem like a lot, but an incredible amount of energy is wasted in keeping water hot after its been boiled. Rather than boil, re-boil and repeat just to enjoy a little tea, turn to Ferv! This insulated kettle keeps water piping hot for up to 4 hours so there’s no need to keep reheating. Better yet, it has a smart user-interface located directly on the top of the lid that communicates temperature and on/off functionality to the user.

A Kettle with Longevity

kuuto_01

Loaded with glued parts and clip fittings, the average kettle is nearly impossible to repair, giving them relatively short lifespan. They’re not only wasteful when thrown away, but reboiling water is also costly in terms of energy! According to designer Samuel Drew, an estimated £68 million worth of energy is wasted each year in the UK alone! With all this in mind, KUUTO was designed as an environmentally-friendly solution that’s made to last. With replaceable parts and durable construction, it’s designed to last 15 years. Its modular build is also designed to make the elements removable by the user to be sent back to the manufacturer. To reduce reboiling, its handle indicates the current temperature encouraging users not to reboil. The user can save even more energy by using the temperature control feature and heating water for specific tasks rather than boiling unnecessarily.

A toaster evolved… into a kettle.

bodum_01

The Bodum Kettle is the result of a design brief to design a kettle around the formal character of another common appliance… the toaster! Drawing from the feature principles from the popular Bodum BISTRO toaster, the kettle exhibits the same familiar stainless steel and specialized tactile rubber exterior for durability, grip and stability. With a simple push-button top, single power button and intuitive hydrometer, it’s also has the same user-friendly appeal as its predecessor.

A Better Kettle

Sometimes product design can be as shallow as making a product look more aesthetic, and I don’t see any harm in that. Especially if it makes a significant difference in the appearance. For example this Kettle Design is all about the looks and nothing about a change in functionality as such. However, the design is impactful. Sweet!
