There’s no denying that Microsoft’s recently released Surface products will have a positive impact on their ecosystem… but there’s also no denying the lack of style compared to the Mac giant. Aziz BelKharmoudi’s take on the design proposes the same powerful all-in-one desktop, but with a total facelift that might give Apple a run for its money. It’s a pure, reduced look that leaves the flare up to Windows 10. It’s easy to say this might just be the best looking Microsoft concept we’ve seen that’s still on brand.

10 Best Tablet Computers to get Before 2015 Ends

It’s difficult choosing a tablet computer from the endless selection out there, but sifting through the iPads, IPad minis, iPad Pros and also Samsung Tablets, Microsoft Surfaces and even a Dell tablet, we’ve managed to put together a useful list of the 10 best tablets out there.

LG G Pad 8.3

The LG G Pad 8.3 is the best tablet ever made by the company, and it’s an excellent choice for those looking for a nice tablet. Some consider it to be the best 8-inch tablet out there. The images are sharp and detailed, while text appears crisp and easy to read. The IPS panel has fantastic viewing angles and fantastic coloring as well.

Dell Venue 8 7000

An ultra thin tablet from a company that hit a home run with the Dell Venue 8 7000 contrary to the usual expectations from Dell tablets. The sharp OLED display makes it awesome to look at, and it’s great for photography and pictures thanks to a pair of cool depth of field-manipulating cameras to play with on back.

Amazon Fire HD 6

There are better tablets around, but when you mix in the issue of value, few are better than the Amazon Fire HD 6, which is almost small enough to be considered a smartphone. It comes with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and both front and rear facing cameras. It might not be the best one out there, but for those looking to cheapen their costs, it’s an excellent option.

Google Nexus 9

For people who are 100% about android systems, the Google Nexus 9 just might be the thing for you, even if it a bit expensive. It comes with the latest Nvidia 64-bit processor, a decent 2GB of RAM, dual front-facing speakers and a decent battery to keep it all up and running for a little over nine hours. It’s hardware also makes it worthwhile.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4

The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 might be the closest thing to a laptop you can get from you tablet computer, vastly upgraded from the previous version, even in the subtle changes. It looks gorgeous, especially without the Windows button for the extra room of three tenths of an inch. The display is incredibly responsive to touch, and the further nuance it brings to the stylus experience is huge. In tandem with the new Surface Pen, the screen detects 1,024 levels of pressure, even during one, single stroke.

iPad Pro

It might be inferior to the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 in some visual aspects, but overall, the iPad Pro is the superior product, being the biggest and maybe the best tablet Apple have ever made. It’s incredibly powerful with a huge screen, and the excellent speaker sound provides another bonus to one of the best products of its kind out there if not the best.

Sony Xperia Z4

Sony hit a homerun with the Sony Xperia Z4 with some tablet reviews claiming it’s the only one that can compete with the number one tablet computer on our list. It might be a bit pricey, but it’s beautiful display, excellent new design compared to previous Sony products and a very strong battery life make it worth.

iPad Mini 4

As with most Apple products, the iPad MIni 4 is more expensive than most 8-inch tablets on the market. However, it has a much stronger processor, better cameras, more vivid Retina display, slightly slimmed-down design, and the ability to run split-screen apps in iOS 9, maintaining its superiority in the 8-inch tablet computer market.

Galaxy Tab S2

Not everything is perfect with the Galaxy Tab S2 like its battery life and so-so camera, but the thin and super light design, combined with the new 4:3 display, microSD card slot and improved TouchWiz software make it a fine competitor to the king of the tablet computer arena, with an “expertise” in web surfing and Flipboard reading.

iPad Air 2

Like every other tablet around, the iPad Air 2 isn’t perfect, but it’s probably the closest one to perfection. The size and weight are in excellent balance, the iOS 9 (including split screen apps) runs perfectly on it and it’s difficult to get smoother and crisper visuals from its competitors. Its price has become more and more affordable, making the 64GB version a must have if you’re going to go for this one.

Microsoft introduces the Surface Hub

Microsoft talked long and lengthy about Windows 10 today, but still managed to show new hardware along with it: enter the Surface Hub.

Microsoft showed Windows 10 to the world today, but along with came a hardware piece that will be making the rounds. Meet the Surface Hub, a completely new type of product that is equal parts tablet, TV, mobile and computer. The Surface Hub is sort of an all-in-one computer / TV with sensors, WiFi, microphones, cameras and the rest of the smartphone and tablet essentials, but measures 84 inches and is capable of 4K resolution: it’s a true monster.

The really funny thing about the Surface Hub was that it was in front of the audience eyes the entire time, and was used throughout Microsoft’s presentation – no one batted an eye up until the point of the keynote today where the speakers introduced it. Of course, it’s going to be running Windows 10, and act as a collaborative hub in office environments – we don’t think this is viable for homes as most people don’t even have 84 inches of free wall to put up something like this up.

The Surface Hub will take advantage of its monster resolution to run many apps or display documents at once, and obsiously, has Skype for business built in. We hope it has a Netflix app, though, that would be useful for lunch time.

Microsoft haven’t announced the release date just yet, but we will update you as more information becomes available.

Computer-controlled Computer: Even PCs Love Tablets

Someone teach the folks at Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories how to be malevolent. Not only are they still making good projects, they recently teamed up with a man named Daniel Gentleman. As a pet project, Daniel wanted to make a robot that could control a Surface Pro 2. When he saw Evil Mad Scientist’s WaterColorBot, he knew he’d found the right robot for the job.

In his guest post at the Evil Mad Scientist Labs blog, Daniel said that the WaterColorBot was a great candidate to control Microsoft’s hybrid computer because the Surface Pro 2 has a built-in digitizer. This means that it can track a stylus precisely without the need for electrical grounding, as opposed to the capacitive touchscreens on most tablets. When he shared his project with Evil Mad Scientist Labs, they invited him to their shop. They made a custom board for the bottom of the WaterColorBot so that the Surface Pro 2 would fit snugly and stay in place. To test their setup, they let the WaterColorBot do what it does best:

I guess that was the computer equivalent of body painting. To make the WaterColorBot do more than draw on the tablet, Daniel’s next plan is “[t]eaching the robot how to see!” You’re not planning on becoming the Lawnmower Man are you Daniel?
