Portable Bluetooth speaker with three different use cases presents a new standard for audiophiles

Bluetooth speakers generally offer that magnanimous opportunity to blast substantially clear music at the beach or listen to your favorite podcasts at home. Some of these speakers are designed to be carried away in the backpack, while some are bigger in size, ideal for use indoors. Pitching in here is the third category; a modular Bluetooth speaker that is designed to alter shape to fit your desired option!

Ocelli- The Split Speakers by Indian concept designer Shantanu Maheshwari transverses the thin line of size and requirement. It offers consumers a choice to pick one speaker that’s apt for both stationary and portable usage and do a little more. The interestingly designed speaker system is conceived to split in the middle so you can have two small speakers to carry in your backpack.

Designer: Shantanu Maheshwari

From how the designer puts it, the idea of splitting the speaker in half is inspired by the cleave separating eyes of a bee. The form has been specifically chosen for its friendliness and convenience. The Bluetooth speaker is divided in the center by a metallic strip that binds the two speakers together. The nice mesh body, metallic connection, and three choices of colors give it an incredibly entertaining design aesthetic bound to appeal to all audiophiles.

The Ocelli comprises two speakers and a metallic unit, which also acts as a charging pod. The speakers on either side can split from the pod to be used separately and offer freedom to enjoy music anywhere. When you want to use the speaker as a single cohesive unit, the speakers magnetically snap back – one other side – into the charging pod. To charge (via USB Type-C), the two speakers need to be connected to the middle strip, which has the charging port at the back and an interactive display on the front.

This screen on the charging pod can display everything from the current music track, charging status, clock, or an incoming call. Just like any other Bluetooth speaker, we are sure, Ocelli will also provide a day’s playback time when untethered from the charging pod, but there is no information on the backup or its sound wattage at the moment. That said, the most entailing aspect for me of this concept is that the two tiny speakers can also directly connect with each other, giving users the option to carry a single speaker on their way out.

The BRICK Speaker can be easily be replicated by anyone for repair and customization

BRICK Speaker Details

Audio speakers were once considered luxury items, so people treated them with affection and care. And when their precious speakers broke, they often took them to repair shops. Over time, such devices have become more affordable and compact. People these days own one or more speakers at home, so when they get damaged, many would probably not care about having them fixed. Tossing them away and buying a new one may be easier to do. That’s what got a designer working on this conceptual speaker, which could “easily be replicated by anyone.”

BRICK Speaker Design

There are plenty of modern choices available in the market, ready with the advancements technology can offer. However, some get easily broken and are not easily repairable. The BRICK Speaker is a concept that shows how a standard audio device can be customizable, repairable, and sustainable at the same time.

The BRICK Speaker uses only a few materials: engineered bamboo, laser-cut MDF, and the plasma-cut mild steel. The speaker grille, aka the mesh, is painted white. Both sides of the case feature the steel element as covers for the woofer and other drivers. The front part comes with diagonal slots of different sizes that run parallel to each other.

BRICK Speaker Structure

The material of choice for mesh has a particular reason. The metal speaker mesh can be attached to the case, which houses eight magnets – one magnet for each corner, front and back – without any screw or adhesive. This easy mounting system gives you the allow to swap the speaker mesh to change the look of the speaker. The designer believes the speaker mesh is the defining piece of design and wanted to give the freedom to play with the mesh pattern and color.

The name Brick Speaker suggests the brick shape of the device. The rectangular shape is slightly sliced off on the two opposing corners for a design twist. One corner, particularly the part that connects the front and back steels, holds a long strap for easy carrying. On one side, there is a round nob, most likely for controlling the volume.

BRICK Speaker Concept

The BRICK Speaker offers a minimal and industrial design vibe, but the bamboo case adds a touch of warmth. The beautiful contrast between natural and inorganic metal is pleasing to the eyes. What this device demonstrates, as intended by the designer, is that you don’t have to throw gadgets right away. Instead, with creativity and basic crafting skills, you can refurbish a broken speaker.

Turning AI Speaker knows your genre and musical preference

Concept Turning AI Speaker Details

You may probably say it’s just another speaker, but the Turning AI Speaker is something that will make things easier for you. Because of the AI feature, it can collect the kind of music you listen to. It will classify all those songs you listen to on different music or video apps on your smartphone.

The Turning-AI Speaker will check the genre you frequently listen to on different media-streaming apps and then play them for you. No need to choose a specific app because the speaker will locate the songs and play them for you. All you need to do is press a button to start a playlist. The Push-button will play the following playlist, and once done, it will automatically move to the next.

Designer: Soomin Son

TURNING AI Speaker

Turning knows your taste in music, and that’s the beauty of AI. So don’t get freaked out if the speaker knows what to play next and how to please you. It’s the AI’s job to identify and remember your preference.

The speaker concept comes with a Companion App that does the job for you. The mobile app collects the song and classifies the music data from your other apps. It can set different moods, but you can set your routine for different times of day or activities—Morning, Study Time, Workout, or Night.

Turning AI Speaker Concept

The Turning AI Speaker looks like a rounded cylinder covered by fabric. There is a large Push-button on top of the speaker. You push it to turn on the device and change the song or playlist.

TURNING AI Speaker Design

There is a recessed portion underneath the speaker where a USB-C port for charging is located. The Turning AI Speaker is portable and compact, so you can bring it everywhere. This could also be waterproof, something you’d probably bring inside the bathroom while showering or by the swimming pool or beach.

Korean Soomin Son designed this Turning AI Speaker. She is a 3D artist and industrial designer from South Korea that has shown her versatility in her designs. Of course, we remember her Moon Projector concept that turns books into learning experiences through augmented reality. There’s also the Voyager which is a mixed-reality headset that can be a virtual tour guide when you’re in foreign cities.

We can see Soomin Son’s style to integrate modern technology and software in her designs. She has used augmented and mixed reality (augmented and virtual), and now, she’s taking advantage of artificial intelligence. This AI Turning Speaker is already “smart” but it can be smarter with a virtual assistant like maybe Google Assistant, Siri, or Alexa.

PAAVA Portable Speaker won’t easily fall or slide off a surface

PAAVA Speaker Concept Design

How do you address the issue of a portable speaker rolling and falling? Some models don’t even have a proper grip, so they easily slide off a surface. An industrial designer came up with a new design that won’t easily fall off.

Stalin Jr., an architect and industrial designer, designed the PAAVA Portable Speaker with the bowling pin as an inspiration. With the cylindrical design of different sizes, the problem of rolling and falling off is solved. The speaker measures 250mm in height (about 9.8-inches) and 150mm (5.9-inches). The design offers a secure grip so it won’t tumble off.

Designer: Stalin Jr.

Concept PAAVA Speaker Design

Instead of speaker fabric, the designer applied a different technique. The speaker grill area appears to be sliced horizontally, reminding us of a sliced avocado. We are assuming the material of the Bluetooth speaker is plastic, as with most wireless speakers today.

There appears to be a recessed portion on the body and head portion of the PAAVA Speaker. A single USB-C port is found underneath for charging. On top of the bowling pin-shaped speaker or its crown are the usual buttons that appear to be touch-enabled. We see the power on/off, previous/next, and volume up/down buttons.

PAAVA Speaker Design Concept

The PAAVA Portable Speaker will not fall off when you push it like those weighted, inflatable punching bags for kids. It looks nice in different colors, and for this design, Stalin Jr. tried several color options like Tangerine, White, Purple, Navy Blue, Black, and Mint Blue. You can probably line up a few speakers and try hitting them with a ball. They may not fall off, though; just wobble and dance.

PAAVA Portable Speaker Design

Does it look like a bowling pin or an avocado? Others will say it reminds them of a penguin. However you see the PAAVA Speaker, we think this design can be advantageous. It’s a new deviation from the speakers in the usual block, spherical, or cylinder form.

If you like this PAAVA Portable Speaker from the designer, you may also like his previous creation. He was the same guy who introduced the Elle compact dishwasher shaped like an elephant. Stalin has a number of other interesting designs that we find intelligent and functional. This zealous designer’s style is more inclined towards human-centric design. He often turns complex ideas into more straightforward stories, providing solutions and opportunities to problems.

This portable home speaker is a sculptural design that rocks a very Dyson-like aesthetic!

Reminiscent of a Dyson fan, Stelae is a portable home speaker designed to deliver quality audio through a technical build that could be mistaken for a piece of sculptural artwork on your coffee table.

Home speakers have a reputation for looking too high-tech to fit into modern living rooms. When placed beside gleaming photo frames and metallic light fixtures, the wires and bulky build of speakers take away from an otherwise clean, minimal interior design. Merging an abstract sculptural look with a metallic chrome finish, Stalae is a portable home speaker designed by Lucis Ceng to bring the subtle taste of sculptural work to electronic design.

While Stelae’s physical build is reminiscent of a Dyson fan’s, the inspiration for Stelae’s distinct form stems from sculpture work. Standing out from other home entertainment systems, Stelae’s speaker plumes from its circular base into the shape of a feather for a slim design that doesn’t take up too much room on the coffee table. The long tube-like portion of Stelae is also lined with four woofers.

Portable by design, Stelae comes with a wire for at-home charging but can also be run on its charged battery for wireless listening. The vertical control panel of Stelae is located at the top of the speaker, equipped with volume and play buttons, users can also connect to Bluetooth and turn the speaker on and off from the control panel. Along the outer edges of Stelae’s circular base, users can find the speaker’s USB type-c ports to connect their own smartphones and control the music from there.

While speakers are generally seen as bulky electronic hardware, Stelae looks to sculpture work to solidify itself as a statement interior design product, seamlessly blending in with other artwork around the house. Since Stelae is also portable, the artful design can be taken anywhere – from the beach to the streets.

Inspired by sculptural artwork, Stelae has an appealing and distinct design.

This Japanese wireless speaker uses a LED show to elevate listening to music into an experience!

We’re all the DJs of our own dance parties in quarantine. Whether we’re at that local jazz bar with Tuesday open mic nights or those rave-filled after-parties following a late Friday night, we’re all pretending we’re on the dancefloor. Until we can get back on the real one, take it from me, a solid speaker setup is crucial for solo Saturday night interpretative dance routines. Thankfully, Japanese design and manufacturing company, Balmuda has the portable speaker with surround sound we’ve been searching for to keep our quarantine dance parties going.

The Balmuda Speaker does a lot more than just play music too. Starting from the top, Balmuda’s 77mm full-range speaker was designed to reproduce realistic vocals and instrumentals the way they were made to be heard in the studio. The speaker’s drive unit was built to deliver a deep, robust cloud of sound with bass heard from below, providing a thick blanket of sound for the vocals to sit on and remain centered, while the treble hangs overhead, making each sound experience fill up every room. The speaker’s sound clarity was achieved through fully-enclosed, vacuum tubing made of organic glass, that traps air to act as a spring, delivering a bouncy and crisp sound with each play.

Then, while your music plays, an LED light show emanates from each speaker’s center to mimic the lights from live musical performances. The speed of lights synchronizes with each song played and can be manually adjusted to fit the mood of any hangout or dance party. The sound of a song is converted to pops of light at a speed of 0.004 seconds, so no matter which song is on queue, Balmuda Speaker automatically adjusts its light show. The Balmuda Speaker can either be connected via BlueTooth or AUX input, and its Live Light mode has three different settings: ‘Beat’ for uptempo songs, ‘Ambient’ for a relaxed mood, and ‘Candle’ for slower songs.
