Bubble Blowing R2-D2

We made our annual pilgrimage to the International Toy Fair this year at New York City’s Javits Center and found a few cool new items for you to get a first glimpse of. As I’m sure you’re aware, with the coming Star Wars moving slated for December (that would be The Force Awakens for anyone living in a bubble), Star Wars items are projected to be hot. They always are anyway. And speaking of living in a bubble, we spotted this sweet bubble blowing R2-D2.

This thing is pretty substantially sized- close to 2 feet tall by our estimations. Fill it up with bubble solutions and let the good times pop. R2 put out a rapid stream of non-stop bubbles, a pretty impressive amount actually. It lights up and makes sounds too- his trademark bleeps and bloops. On his front there are a few different settings:

You can choose straight, oscillate, or random. Let’s get a reverse angle peek at that bubble blowing droid, shall we?

Like it? Well you’ll have to wait. The R2-D2 Bubble Machine is being produced by Imperial Toy (appropriately named, sort of?) and will be released sometime this Fall.

R2-D2 Diaper Cake

Diaper cakes are all the rage at baby showers. Despite sounding like what gets deposited INSIDE a diaper, they are actually just an arrangement of diapers and other baby-centric gifts in the shape of a cake. Sure not a cake you’d want to eat, but a cake of useful items. But some expecting mothers are a little more geeky than others and deserve something more appropriate for their upcoming bundle of geek joy.

Like this ultimate diaper cake in the shape of everyone’s favorite Star Wars character R2-D2 (what, you like Chewbacca more? get out). Of course there’s a huge problem with this diaper cake (beside the fact that it doesn’t seem to actually contain any diapers); it’s too cool to take apart and use the parts. Next time make 2 of them. Maybe you could sell it to some Jawas for junior’s college fund. This baby is already the coolest and hasn’t even been born yet.

Star Wars Inflatable Christmas Lawn Decorations

Droid to the world, the Lord (Vader) is come. Geek up your Christmas decorations this year with these awesome inflatable Star Wars lawn decorations. Starting with the dynamic droid duo of R2D2 and C3PO bringing you a witty holiday message at the bottom and decked out in Christmas lights. C3PO measures 5.5″ tall and R2 is… let’s just say he measures a little less than that.

Next up is the Scrooge of the galaxy, Darth Vader in a Santa Hat. He’s 42″ tall, lights up, and wants to bring cheer and goodwill to mankind this year- nah just kidding, death and destruction. Unless you join the Dark Side. But maybe we can step it up a notch…

Last but certainly not least (well, maybe least in height) is Yoda as Father Christmas Santa. Calm, all is. He’s 42″ tall, lights up, and is full of Jedi knowledge and holiday cheer. He’s decked out in a seasonal robe. For indoor or outdoor use. Christmas, a merry one, I wish you.

R2-D2 Rolling Suitcase

Bleep boop, get on the plane and let R2 help with your stuff with the R2-D2 Carry-on Luggage. It’s a rolling suitcase festooned with the world’s greatest droid’s image on the outside. That’s right, I said “festooned”. This is the luggage you are looking for. R2 comes with a telescoping handle and four wheels to roll through airport with ease.

That should fit most airline’s carry-on requirements. The suitcase is made of ABS + PC (good impact and heat resistance) with a polyester lining. Tasty. There’s two zippers for ease of access during flights. Let Artoo protect your belongings in flight just like he protected Luke Skywalker’s hand. Ok maybe he didn’t do a great job hand-wise but the rest of Luke still made it through, right? Good enough. I think we’ve gone off on a tangent here, it’s almost as if talking about R2 has made me channel C3PO. Very well.

R2-D2 and C-3PO Wedding Rings

Ahh geek love. When a pair of Star Wars super fans get married surely you cannot expect them to go with boring old plain metal rings. No, they must proclaim both their love for each other and their love for the epic trilogy simultaneously. And the way to do it is with these R2-D2 and C-3PO wedding rings from Juan Hidalgo. They actually look like they’d almost pass for regular rings. Somehow the groom gets to be R2 though? Pretty cool. (via)

R2-D2 Kitchen Timer

Use this R2-D2 Kitchen Timer and your Tauntaun steaks will never be just Luke warm. Thank you folks, I’ll be at Jabba’s Comedy Hut all week. As a pretend comedian, there’s one thing I know about and that’s how to pair a suit with a pair of white sneakers. Also timing. Timing is key. R2-D2 knows about timing too. He does not know about suits though. So when you need something timed, just twist his head (don’t use too much… wait for it…you know it’s coming…. Force) and Artoo will slowly tick away the minutes.

The timer can be set for up to 60 minutes, which if my calculations are correct is exactly 1 hour. This is the droid you are looking for. Or more likely it’s the droid you want but didn’t you know wanted until you saw it and now you can’t live without it. This R2 measures about 4″ x 5″ x 2.25″, so if you’re looking for something bigger then you’re looking in Alderaan places my Jedi friend. You’ve been a great crowd, thank you, goodnight!

Metallomaniac: Star Wars 3D Metal Model Kits

The best things to have are those that you’ve made with your blood, sweat, and tears. You won’t have to go through such lengths for these three-dimensional Star Wars metal models, though. They might look complex and difficult to make, but would you believe that each and every one of them started out from flat, laser-etched steel sheets?

All you have to do is pop out the pieces from the sheet. Then you bend, fold, and connect each part with the other until you end up with the character that you’ve chosen.

Four models are available: TIE Fighter, R2-D2, the Millennium Falcon, and AT-AT. The kits are available from Vat19 for $14.99 each.

An Out-of-this-World Kinda Cool: Star Wars R2-D2 Can Cooler

R2-D2 is a bot of few words–okay, of many words–but few of which we can actually understand. The pleasure that comes from having your brew of choice kept cool in this R2-D2 can cooler though, needs no words because silence speaks louder than words ever can. Whether you’re a fan of George Lucas’s epic franchise or not, this particular can cooler is a sight for sore eyes and will keep the temperature of your booze cool, just like you like it.

R2-D2 Can Koozie

Apparently we still have not run out of cylindrically shaped objects that R2-D2 can be turned into! And we’re all a little better for it. Otherwise I’d have to write about another boring iPhone case or something. Instead we have the R2-D2 Can Coolers, drink koozies with Artoos distinctive body on the outside.

Is there anything ol’ R2 can’t do? This can cooler actually has a metal exterior (just like the real R2-D2!) with a rubber inside (not so much like R2). Keeps your hand as toasty as Summer on Tatooine and your drink as cold as a Hoth Winter, so you can take off that glove Lord Vader. Ouch, I’m choking! Ok, ok, you can leave the glove on, whatever you want. Phew. Holds a standard 12 ounce can.
