Car seats for children are bulky, space-consuming, and have to be replaced often as they grow. We need child seats that are compact enough to store and be easily accessible in every car because the purpose is to keep your child safe irrespective of the car you have. Taxie is a Red Dot Design Award winner that solves this fundamental issue so you don’t have to choose between spending too much money on seats as your child grows or on a new car to fit a big seat. This foldable child safety seat makes it possible to share cars or take an Uber while still being able to carry your seat.

Apart from being universally car-friendly, Taxie works for children between 15 months to 12 years of age which is more than most current ones in the market, and adheres to the latest ECE-R129 standard of safety. Designers identified the top three reasons that make it difficult for shared car drivers to provide a child safety seat – children of different ages require different types of seat, a child safety seat is too bulky to store in the car boot, setting up a child seat and dismantling them take up time. It is impossible for parents or drivers to carry various sizes of child safety seats to accommodate all their needs.

It can be transformed into three different safety seats that suit infants, toddlers, and children above the age of 4 years. Just unlock the base, flip it over, adjust the headrest and you/the driver is good to go. Created for children with heights 76cm and above, this seat is a scalable product that is the size of hand luggage. Fold and store it in the boot when not in use while still leaving plenty of room for your luggage. Taxie’s flexible form helps drivers provide a better service for families with children and also for parents as one seat will last 12 years and can be used for multiple kids. The clever design maximizes what you get from a product through its versatility – it fits your needs and your car!

This robot vacuum doubles as a mop because of its water tanks!

Spring cleaning has now become an everyday thing as we all turn into Monica Geller and wipe down surfaces. As there is no vaccine yet and all we can really do is stay home and make sure that we are keeping it clean so that the virus doesn’t stand a chance in our territory. Along with the spike in the sales for sanitizers and masks, all cleaning products have experienced a surge in demand and the 2020 way to do this is to work harder not smarter – say hello to Everybot Edge!

Robotic vacuums are not new news but Everybot Edge is a home appliance that works for both wet and dry cleaning of hard floors. And if you want to feel like you’ve put in some work then simply switch to the handheld mode and get into the crevices. One of the most interesting features is that this vacuum maneuvers without wheels. It runs on two round, rotating microfibre pads, which are driven by two separate motors; so the robot cleans the floor while moving – similar to when I stepped on two kitchen towels and walked around the space-eating snacks while telling my mom I was cleaning. The best part is you don’t need a dry pad and a wet pad (like Swiffers) because the two containers in the vacuum constantly supply the pads with water. Call this robotic vacuum Hannah Montana because it is the best of both worlds.

The protruding shape of Everybot Edge helps it to reach corners of your home and maybe your heart. It also features anti-collision and fall-protection sensors (something I could use for the days I can’t find my glasses!). Just like an actual adult, I am very excited about this mopping robot because it is versatile, flexible and has high functionality for its compact form.

This carbon fiber rollator’s handle will hold your hand

We love universal designs especially when they provide the freedom to move. Mobility is an especially important aspect to our differently-abled demographic that relies on inclusive design, so having a product that works for everyone including them is a true winner. That is why there is no surprise that the Carbon Ultralight rollator was featured on the Red Dot Design Awards! A rollator is basically a rolling walker with a seat that makes it easy to move without having to lift it up.

The name Carbon Ultralight is due to its biggest differentiating factor – the rollator is the lightest (and the first of its kind) in the world because of its complete carbon fiber frame. It only weighs 10.5 lbs (4.8 kgs) so it really is light light but the designers have also added some aircraft-grade aluminum to give it stability while moving and braking. The ergonomic build and shape have been inspired by organic bodies of fast animals (think dolphins, sharks, and falcons!) as well as the streamlined designs of sports cars from the automotive industry. One of the standout little details that make it a ‘clean’ design is that the brake cables are hidden inside the frame.

If you are currently social distancing, you will love the thought behind the shape of the rollator’s handles – the form is designed to give you a feeling of holding onto someone’s hand. This can provide a sense of security to the senior users as well as the differently-abled. Certain shapes and forms are known to provide a psychological comfort that can make the user confident about independently using the product. The handles are purposely turned into the opposite direction of the rollator to provide a better posture to the rider and making maneuvering easy. Its unique handles make riding effortless because you’ll be using your palms instead of your fingers to dictate the rollator’s direction. It also comes with detachable accessories like a backrest and organizer.

Another refreshing change was the upgrade to the height adjustment function – the designers replaced the traditional knob with a button that adjusts the height with 30 mm increments. It is a lot easier to keep track of the height this way if multiple people are sharing the rollator. Apart from being as light as a rollator could be if it was a feather, it is also super compact and when folded down it is only 255 mm wide.
