Business Knife: Multi-Tool Card That Shows Off Your Skills

Business Knife Card

There’s no shortage of creative and unusual business cards these days. From interactive LED-infused cards to edible ones, the sky’s the limit. Another one to add to the list is this Business Knife Card by graphic designer Anthony Cole. It’s crafted from cardboard and draws inspiration from the ever-popular multi-tools on the market today.

Call it the Swiss Army Knife of business cards, if you will.

Each “tool” reveals a different skill set. While you can’t really use it to fix stuff up or screw stuff back in, it definitely leaves a strong impression–which is what it’s supposed to do in the first place.

Good going, Anthony!

Need a Job? Brew Some Resume-Ale!

Resum-Ale

Traditional resumes just don’t cut it anymore. Oftentimes, those who get the job are the ones with credentials that stand out from the rest. However, aside from qualifications, here’s one other thing that you could do to up your chances of getting hired: come up with an unusual or creative resume that’ll get people talking. You know, like interactive resumes that play out like a game or LEGO resumes that you can build, brick by brick.

And then there’s Brennan Gleason’s Resum-ale. It’s a resume that comes in the form of a four-pack of the graphic designer’s special homebrew, something that prospective bosses will love for sure. Brennan explains: “I’ve seen beef jerky business cards and really weird stuff like that. So, I really wanted to do something along those lines.”

Weird? Yes. Cool? Definitely. So weird and cool it was that Brennan landed a job as a result with a Vancouver-based digital marketing agency. Sounds like a good fit, doesn’t it?

Guy Sends out Custom Brewed and Packaged Beer as Resume: You’re Hired!

If you want to be hired, don’t just send the company yet another boring resume. After going through stacks of them, hiring managers could use a good drink. So send them some booze and you pretty much have the job.

That’s what Canadian graphic designer Brennan Gleason‘s ‘Resum-Ale’ is all about. It is a 4-pack of blonde beer he home-brewed and packaged with his resume. The resume is actually printed on the box, and each bottle has an example of his graphic design work printed on it.

No matter what his work might be like, it is seen through beer goggles, so he has a better chance of landing that job. Awesome idea, Brennan.

Brick By Brick: Build a LEGO Resume, Get a Second Interview

LEGO Resume

The Internet has seen its fair share of unusual and creative resumes that are essentially applications of that person’s skills and qualifications. For example, there was that programmer who turned his resume into an interactive one by creating a website that played like a video game as you scrolled down.

Then there’s this resume by Redditor Leah who made a LEGO set featuring none other than herself. It made perfect sense that she came up with something as creative and far out as this, considering that she was trying to get a job at an advertising agency.

The best part? It worked, because Leah got called in for a second interview. Way to go!

Designer Gets Creative With His Resume, Makes a Game Out of It

Interactive Resume

It’s a tough world out there and jobs are hard to come by. You could post the usual resume that lists all of your skills and credentials, or you could show potential employers what you’re made of instead. The latter is what designer Robby Leonardi chose to do with his interactive resume. The entire thing plays out like a video game, complete with stages and levels that let you know what Robby is all about.

As others have pointed out, the only thing missing is the boss level. The resume ends in a contact form where you can send Robby a message and even offer him a job or two. Check it out here.

Video Game Resume Is the Best Resume Ever

This video game inspired resume beats any resume that you have offered to potential employers. It is the work of designer Robby Leonardi, who wanted his C.V. to stand out from the crowd. He certainly accomplished that.

Robby created an interactive resume with a Super Mario Bros. sort of theme and it is amazing. It has four levels of awesomeness. This interactive resume is basically a miniature version of Robby as a Mario-type superhero character that runs through the levels, telling employers about his employment history, work experience and portfolio. As an added bonus, it shows off his HTML, CSS, JavaScript and JQuery skills along the way.

You can see it here. Just push the down arrow or spin your scroll wheel and enjoy the ride. Then hire this guy!

Awesome resume. My Mario hat is off to you Robby. I would hire you in a heartbeat just to create cool stuff like this for my own personal amusement.

Guy Creates 25 Hours of Additional Gameplay for Skyrim as His Resume

How do you stand out from the crowd so that prospective employers notice you? Well, there are lots of ways, but it is best to somehow show the quality of your work in an eye-catching way. Wow them. That’s what Alexander J. Velicky did. He created 25 extra hours of Skyrim.

skyrim mod
The 19-year-old Velicky loves Bethesda and would love to work for them, so he spent 2,000 hours creating a mod called “Falskaar” that adds 25 hours of gameplay to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. He created a land mass a third as big as the original map, which is pretty massive. He used 29 voice actors to record new dialog for his NPCs, and recruited over a 100 total people to help him with Falskaar. Now, he waits for a job.

“The best way to show Bethesda Game Studios that I want a job there and should be hired is to create content that meets the standards of their incredible development team,” he says.

I applaud his tactics and his enthusiasm.

Want a Job? Send a 3D Model of Your Head Instead of a Resume

It seems like people are taking Phil Dubost’s lead when it comes to resumes. In case you haven’t heard of Phil, he’s the one behind the Amaz-ing Resume that promptly went viral after he posted it. Apparently, many seem to agree that a fake Amazon product page beats a boring old CV any day.

That was followed shortly by the chocolate bar resume of Redditor elilanger’s friend Nicholas, which went viral after it was posted online. (In case you were wondering, yes, he got the job.) Hot on the heels of both unusual resumes is Floyd Hayes and his 3D-printed head resume.
