Interactive and Modular Roofs

Here is an interesting concept of modularizing the roofs of buildings. The idea stems from the fact that roof gardens have a uni-directional focus with little or no variations. Design Prototype Interactive Roof are pixilated units that perform a unique function and interact according to the living space below it.

Like the designer explains, “Each of the squares or pixels has a different function, and depending on its program the result in insulation, space, energy, water supply, and ventilation may change in the space below. At anytime when the program inside of the building requires a new arrangement, the roof can be easily changed by lifting a pixel and placing it in its new position.”

DPI_R can be easily fitted to a new building site or enhance an existing building by adding a “new” roof to the existing one.
