Firefly Collector’s Edition Yahtzee: Serenitzee!

There has been a glut of collector’s edition Yahtzee games over the last few months. We have already seen a Plants vs Zombies edition and a Walking Dead edition. Now sci-fi geeks can get their own custom dice game with the Firefly Yahtzee edition.

Of course, the dice cup is a scale model of Serenity and the back section of the cup pops off to reveal the custom dice. Each of the dice has Chinese script on them. The landing gear of the Serenity cup is removable; I think I would play with the cup more than the game itself.

Of course, a Firefly-themed score pad is included. The cup measures 9.4″ x 6″ x 3.75″ and is packed with awesome. You can get your own Firefly Yahtzee game at ThinkGeek for $49.99(USD).

Duct Tape Serenity: Serenitape

Duct tape is a wonderful invention. It can be used for all sorts of things from the actual taping of ducts to holding the windshield or fender on your car. You can also use duct tape as an artistic medium, as a dude named Jacob LaRocca demonstrated at the World Maker Faire.

He built an impressively accurate replica of Serenity from Firefly made completely out of duct tape. The little light-colored sections you see are rolled up bits of duct tape with the sticky adhesive on the outside.

This thing is awesome. In total, it took Jacob 23 pounds of duct tape and over 110 hours of work to build the ship. I bet his hands were a sticky mess after a day’s work on this thing. Check out the complete build log up on Imgur.

Papercraft Serenity from QMx: Paperenity

Growing up, the local dollar store had these cool papercraft coloring books that had pages of spaceships you could color and then fold to create 3D ships I liked to hang from my ceiling. QMx has a great papercraft reproduction of Serenity from Firefly that reminds me a lot of those coloring books from my youth.

The big difference here is that the ship is Serenity and those in the books growing up were more like the shuttlecraft from that old show “V.” If Serenity isn’t your thing, you can also get a Malcolm Reynolds papercraft as well.

QMx is the company that made that giant Serenity replica we talked about last month. To get the papercraft model, you have to spend at least $25 on Firefly products via the company website.

QMx Shows off Movie quality Gigantic Serenity Ship Replica

I liked Firefly when it was on the air, but I wasn’t a rabid fan like some people. If you find yourself in the latter category, check out this gigantic Serenity replica from QMx. This is the biggest Serenity replica it has made so far at 1:124 scale.

The film-scale replica is based on the filming miniature that had a length of 26.5″, width of 17″, and a height of 7.5″. It has an aluminum and steel internal structure and more than 100 LED lights on the outside.

The beast was handmade by artisans from QMx, and you can check out pics of the build over on Facebook.

There is no word on how much it would cost, but it is safe to say a lot. Yeah, I want one pretty bad and the only downside I see is it’s probably too big to hold while running around the house making spaceship noises.

The First Official Firefly Action Figures

The first Firefly action figures are here and it’s a good news/bad news type of situation. The good news is that they exist, the bad news is that they kind of suck.

They’re part of Funko’s ReAction line, which is a throwback to classic Kenner action figures, with somewhat oversized heads. Unfortunately, I don’t think they got details right on these, though I think Zoe looks the best. You can get Mal, Zoe, Jayne, Wash and Kaylee, and each comes with matching accessories.

Kaylee comes with a wrench, Jayne has two big guns, and Wash has dinosaurs. Don’t worry though, Funko is also releasing a more realistic 6-inch Firefly figure line very soon. What do you guys think?

Serenity Made from a CD-Rom Drive: Shiny!

You can’t take the sky from me. But if you have a spare CD-Rom drive you can try to make a miniature Serenity ship like this one from Daniel Shankalonian, but it wouldn’t turn out nearly as good I’m sure.

serenity1magnify

He built this little ship using parts from a CD-ROM Drive and bits of an old Dell computer. I love all of the little details. These are handmade, so they take about a week to complete and the design might vary slightly based on the parts available, but I really like what I see here.

Daniel has many other cool recycled items in his shop, including that cool Batman Tumbler made from old PlayStation 2s.

Stunning LEGO Serenity From Firefly

It has been a while since we cried and moaned about how the universe was unfair by taking Firefly away from us so soon. It’s rant time.

Seven-Foot Long LEGO Model of Serenity Made of 70,000 Bricks

Damn. We see plenty of amazing things here at Technabob, but this has to be the best LEGO ship in the universe. This amazing reproduction of Serenity in LEGO bricks measures 7 feet-long. It’s also 135 pounds, is made of 70,000 bricks, and it took 475 hours (spread over 21 months) to complete.
LEGO Serenity
Adrian Drake, its builder, is my new LEGO God. I will build an altar with LEGO bricks and worship him. Seriously. I’ll try to do it tonight if I have time. Drake used the Serenity Blueprints Reference Pack from QMx as a starting point. He converted it to LEGO and tried to make it as accurate as possible. It looks pretty darn great to me.

Inara’s shuttle even detaches so she can go meet her clients. And the wings actually swing and move. The cargo bay and drive both light up. Shall I go on? There are also custom minifigs of the crew. I can’t stop WANTING this. Check out many more images of the LEGO Serenity over on Flickr.

23 TV Show Characters in One Room

The greatest thing about incredibly talented people getting bored? They come up with crazy stuff, usually some amazing mashups. Like Anna Rettberg taking 23 characters from TV Shows and putting them all in one room, while some of their spaceships wait outside.
