Belkin iPad Mini Keyboard Case: You Knew It Was Coming

I admit that I use a keyboard sleeve with my iPad, and to be honest it makes typing on my tablet a whole lot more productive. Since the iPad Mini was released, it was just a matter of time before a keyboard case for Apple’s smallest tablet would surface.

Like the larger keyboard cases out there for the orginal iPad, Belkin’s portable keyboard folio for the iPad Mini is supposed to let you type more intuitively. It also makes your iPad Mini look like a tiny netbook, albeit with tiny, but well-spaced keys, allowing touch typists to GTD, no matter where they go. It’s also got some media controls and a rechargeable battery. The folio won’t protect your iPad Mini like some of the more rugged cases out there, but it offers a basic level of protection.

It’s available for $79.99(USD) at Belkin’s online store or on Amazon for $74.99.

Twelve South BookBook iPhone Case Review: This Book Is Thick But Useful

iPhones can take plenty of abuse, but they get scratched up pretty quickly, which is one of the reasons why cases are necessary. Unlike some, I prefer to keep my phone in as good condition as possible, so when I inevitably upgrade and resell it, I get maximum value. The BookBook case from Twelve South is an interesting idea, since it combines a protective iPhone case with a wallet.

The BookBook case is nicely designed, and fits the iPhone 4 and 4S well. There are 3 slots for credit cards and ID cards, as well as a small slip pocket for some cash. The best thing about this case is that it keeps your iPhone screen scratch-free. Unless you are very diligent in always storing your iPhone in a pocket with nothing else, it will eventually get scratched up. Thanks to its phone pocket and folding cover, this case stops this from happening. The case can also be put inside a bag or purse without any problems.

Personally, I like my cases minimal and simple, but when I was offered this case for review, it made me wonder if that’s really what I wanted. For me, it’s not the best fit due to its bulk. The book-like cover is a cute idea, but the overall design makes the phone a lot thicker than it needs to be. That said, if you’re looking to travel light, it does combine wallet and phone case, and that’s all some people need when they go out clubbing.

With a list price of $59.99 (USD), the BookBook is one of the more expensive iPhone cases I’ve seen. In fact, it’s close in price to some of the waterproof cases that I’ve been looking at. That said, it’s reasonably priced if you take into account the cost of both a case and a wallet.

The BookBook case is available over at Twelve South in either brown or black leather. You can also find the case At TiG on sale for just $21 right now.

Belkin iPad Mini Cases: A Little Something for Everyone

While I have to admit that I’m on the fence on whether to get the iPad Mini, I’ve been told by a couple of friends that they’d appreciate a smaller iPad because it would be easier to carry around with them everywhere. That being said, if you’re planning on getting one, you’ll need a case to protect it from bumps and scratches in your bag, and Belkin just released a couple of good ones.

Their new line of iPad Mini sleeves and covers feature an array of fabrics, patterns, and features that will go along nicely with Apple’s new mini tablet. They will definitely protect your precious new gadget (and ensure that you’re ready to resell it when the iPad Mini with Retina display is surely launched next year.)

Prices for the casese range from $29.99 to $39.99(USD) and there are currently a total of five different styles and a variety of colors to choose from.

pomm Uncorks the iPadCorkCase

There’s no denying the fact that I’m always looking for a really good iPad case. It looks like the Portuguese design studio pomm has created a pretty cool iPad case, made up entirely of cork. I wonder if it will float if dropped into water, or if you can stick pushpins into it.

The iPadCorkCase is designed to protect your iPad (which is good I guess, because it sort of defeats the purpose to have a case that doesn’t do this.) They chose to use cork because it’s durable, versatile, has a high resistance to daily wear and tear, as well as its shock absorption and water resistant properties.

The case isn’t slim, but I guess that it needed to be this thick to do its job. While I don’t think that this case revolutionize the case industry, it is a cool looking case. The first 500 preorders can get it for €55 (~$72 USD) at pomm. Prices go up to  €60/$75 USD after that.

Evouni Nano Stand Pouch: The Standing Phone Pouch

My iPhone cases definitely do the job of protecting my smartphone, but I’ve come to realize that a pouch of some kind might be a good idea, because it would better protect the screen. Screens are vulnerable, even when you put on a screen protector, to scratches of all kind.

Evouni’s Nano Stand Pouch looks pretty interesting. It looks low-tech but it’s not. The smartly-designed pouch lets you store your phone inside of it, and you can use it as a stand in an ergonomic resting position. The pouch is made out of a Japanese fabric called Toray Ecsaine, a microfiber-like fabric with a suede-like texture. The pouch has a leather lining with additional structure to keep phones upright.

The pouch works for devices with screens of 3.8″ to 4.3″ (size L), so it should fit your new iPhone 5 when it arrives. There is also a version more suited for the iPhone 4/4S  and it works for smartphones with screens of 3.8″ and smaller. It sells for $29.80(USD).

thumbsUp! Dual SIM Card Case for iPhone 4/4S: Switching Made Easy

Having a phone that can easily switch between SIM cards is very convenient, especially if you travel a lot. Usually, you’d have to manually take out a SIM card and insert another one in its place, unless you’ve got one of those off-market phones with mulitple SIM slots. The thumbsUp! case makes this process easier, if you happen to have an iPhone.

No official iPhone has had a dual-SIM card functionality, which is probably one of the reasons why thumbsUP! released its Dual SIM Card case. The case allows you to carry two SIM cards at the same time. You can switch cards simply by powering down your phone and flipping a switch on the back of the case. It supports micro as well as normal-sized SIM cards. It appears to connect into the iPhone’s SIM slot on the side and then provides its own switching mechanism.

The Dual SIM Card case sells for £29.99 (~$48 USD) and works for the iPhone 4/4S. If you’re planning on upgrading to the new iPhone that will be announced this week, you might want to wait until a compatible case is released.

Grove Wooden iPhone Case Offers Natural Protection for iPhone 4/4S or iPhone 5

I liked the design of the Grove Skateback, but I’ve been waiting for Grove to release a full-on wooden case for the iPhone. It looks like that time has come, and you can even pre-order one for the iPhone 5. If you plan on sticking with your iPhone 4 or 4S, then you can buy yours right away.

The Grove Case for iPhones is handmade and made out of wood. The case uses a slide-together design made out of bamboo that has a plant fiber core. The back of the case looks very neat, and it’s the perfect place for some fancy artwork that you can either upload or choose from the available designs. There are also custom engraving options, but these will cost you $20 extra (that’s how much it costs for the iPhone 4S version).

If you pre-order your Grove Case now, until September 30th, with a $20 deposit, you’ll get the iPhone 5 case for only $59. That sounds like a deal. The case will be released in the first week of October – shortly after the anticipated mid-to-late September release of the iPhone 5.

Pong iPhone Anti-Radiation Case Won’t Protect You from Being Nuked

OK, so this phone case isn’t going to actively protect you from the radioactive fallout of a nuclear bomb, but it is supposed to protect you from those harmful radiowaves that are constantly emanating from your precious iPhone.

pong soft touch iphone radiation case

Pong’s Soft Touch iPhone case incorporates tech that will reduce the exposure to wireless radiation by up to 93%. That’s pretty good. This has been done by redirecting cell phone radiation away from your head and body. No more smartphone-induced brain cancers – if you believe that the radiation is actually doing anything bad to you in the first place.

If that’s isn’t enough, the case has been engineered to improve signal strength by 41%. This means less dropped calls for everyone, though for people living in NYC will probably still experience some. Its makers claim that the improved signal quality will boost talk time by about 1.3 hours as well.

The Pong Soft Case sells for $69.99(USD), and is available in black, pink, light blue or white.

Spaho Design’s Ripple Case Puts an Optical Illusion on Your iPhone

I’m not sure how well cases with holes will actually protect your iPhone, but since there are some available from major manufacturers, they must help at least a little, right? If you don’t mind having a case with holes in the back, then check out the 3D printed Ripple case.

The Ripple case design was obtained after modifying one with straight lines. The series of curvy opening creates a pattern which produces a sort of 3D optical illusion, which is definitely unusual.

It was created by Spaho Design and it’s available through Shapeways for $30(USD), and you can choose from a number of different materials if you’re going to get one.

Leese Design iPhone Cases: You Can Sew Your Own Way!

I’ve probably seen thousands of iPhone cases, but only a couple interested me enough that I ended up buying them. While I’m not a snob, I’m well aware that a case that doesn’t feature a nice design ethos won’t please me for long. These cases from Korea’s Leese Design incorporate a bit of DIY style to make each one unique.

The DIY Stipin case from Leese Design has an embroidered design on its back. The case comes in a variety of complete pre-stitched designs, but what’s really fun is that buyers can cross-stitch their own designs if they want to. There are pattern guides available for those of us not that nimble with a needle, which should allow everyone to complete a case like this. Oh, and those cute little pins are designed to plug into your headphone jack when not in use.

The cases sell from Leese Design for ₩48,000 (~$48 USD) but the DIY version sells for just ₩30,000 (~$30 USD).
