Snake with Solid Snake & Liquid Snake: Snake? Snake!

It had to be Snakes. Snake? Snake! is developer Virtually Competent’s entry to the Duplicade game jam. It’s based on the classic mobile game Snake except instead of the titular animal, players control Metal Gear Solids‘ Twin Snakes.

Duplicade’s restrictions are simple: entries have to be 30-second PvPs, and they have to be a knockoff of another game, just “weird enough to not get you sued.” Hence the game jam’s name. And Snake? Snake! is weird all right. Solid and Liquid are literally half-snakes, and instead of eating fruit they grow longer by extracting soldiers with the Fulton system. The game’s sound effects are awkward at best, and at the bottom of the scoreboard are quotes from Metal Gear Solid turned into snake puns. Skip to 0:50 in Jupiter_Hadley‘s video below to see the game in action:

And you thought the Skulls were weird. Snake? Snake! is available for Windows, OS X and Linux. You can download it for free (with an optional donation) from Virtually Competent’s Itch.io page.

Metal Gear Solid Snake Nendoroid: Clone this Cutie

Watch out Nendoroid Link, an equally cute hero is sneaking up on your territory. Launching this November, the Good Smile Company’s Solid Snake Nendoroid features the super spy as he appears in the PlayStation hit Metal Gear Solid.

This action figure is the first Nendoroid that can be posed in a prone position, one of Snake’s go to sneaking moves. Its accessories are an assault rifle, a handgun, a cardboard box and a low polygon face, a funny homage to his in-game appearance. One of the product images shows him holding a tiny cigarette, but it doesn’t seem like that accessory will be included with the toy.

Solid Snake Amigurumi Will Sneak His Way into Your Heart

We’ve seen an amigurumi of Old Snake before, but I like the young Solid Snake much better than that bitter – but heroic! – old fart. Which is why if I had this amigurumi I would hug it so tightly a ration would come out before I even dropped it.

But since he’s just 5.5″ tall, it’d be easier to squeeze him with one hand than give it a full CQC hug. But look at that awesomely stitched beard. And that mullet! Good thing he doesn’t have a crocheted cigarette or I would’ve given in and bought it, shipping be damned.

You can order the impressive Solid Snake amigurumi from Sam Wilding’s Etsy shop PixelBlock for $30 (USD).

Metal Gear Solid Movie in the Works

Fans of the Metal Gear Solid franchise of games who have been wanting to see Solid Snake on the big screen are apparently getting their wish. MGS is finally becoming a movie. There has been talk about the possibility for a while now – and it is now confirmed.

mgsThe film will be produced by Avi Arad, the producer behind many of the latest Marvel blockbusters (and a few flops too.) It’s too early for any plot details or casting news, but if they do it properly it could be a really good movie. Apparently, the film will be released by Columbia Pictures, which conveniently is owned by Sony.

It will be interesting to see how they will handle the plot for this movie, because they will want to at least make a trilogy I’m sure. The first movie’s plot will need to be perfect enough to ensure additional installments.
