Join Geeky Hooker’s 2015 San Diego Comic-Con Amigurumi Hunt!

Geeky Hooker loves to crochet amigurumi. Sometimes she sells them, but mostly she gives them away by dropping them off at various locations. She’s at the San Diego Comic-Con this week, and she’s hiding eight of her creations for anyone to find. Up for grabs are Star-Lord, Groot, a white walker, Chewbacca, Baymax, Batman, Scarecrow and the cutest Deadpool you’ll ever see.

To join her hunt, follow Geeky Hooker on Twitter and watch out for her #CRITTERDROP tweets, where she’ll drop clues on the location of an amigurumi. She’ll only place one amigurumi at a time, and she says there will be times when “you’ll have to work for your critter.”

There is, of course, the headlining staple of Pokémon faces, from Pikachu (although, sadly, at this moment is currently sold out), Charmander, Bulbasaur, and few more; Johnny even has a couple crocheted characters from the Digimon world if that also strikes your pocket-monster fancy.

For for $30 to $40 bucks each, every amigurumi requires 8-12 weeks for each one to be made and then delivered. Johnny makes each one made to order, which is a good sign of their quality. Be sure to head on over to Johnny’s deviantArt page to check out his entire selection of Pokémon amigurumi current and past, and don’t forget his Etsy shop too!

Charmander uses tiny smile! It’s super effective! Johnny’s amigurumi vary in size, but each of them can fit in the palm of your hand.

The last three of Johnny’s amigurumis that I’m going to show you are not actual Pokémon, but it would be criminal not to share them. First up is Chanfing, the popular Pokémon Fusion character.

And this is a one-two kawaii punch. The jellyfish will kill you with cuteness, then the octopus will bring you back to life with cuteness.

Johnny sells his amigurumi on Etsy for $30 to $45 (USD) each. It seems like he only makes limited copies of each amigurumi – Pikachu and Chanfing are no longer on his store – so catch ‘em right away. You can check out Johnny’s blog for past and future designs.

As you can see in the picture, Iron Man’s mask even flips up. As a bonus the helmet also comes off completely, revealing Tony’s head and he even has facial hair. Hug him, squeeze him, cuddle with him in bed. It’s all good. No one will know what a softy you are.

He’s the cutest Avenger. It must have taken a lot of time and effort to get all of that detail. In the end he turned out perfect. I wish I had one to put on the shelf and admire for myself.

Amigurumi Plants vs. Zombies: The Crocheting Dead

There’s word on the street that a new Plants vs. Zombies game is being announced at E3 this week. So with the game back on the minds of many, what better time to grab this awesome collection of PvZ amigurumis.

amigurumi pvz 1

This epic collection was created by Komang Damiani and includes a whopping 23 individual Plants and other weapons from your garden.

amigurumi pvz 2

Unfortunately, The zombies seem to be nowhere to be found in this handmade collection of yarn plants.

amigurumi pvz 3

Still it’s a pretty great collection for anyone who loves the game. The complete set will set you back $190(USD), so that’s less than $9 per plant. Now all you need is a bunch of crocheted zombies to go with. Oh, they make those too

amigurumi pvz 4

Crocheted Minions: Despicable Amigurumi

For me, Despicable Me was a unexpectedly entertaining animated film. Perhaps it was because of Steve Carrell’s hilarious performance as Gru, or maybe it was his Raving Rabbids-esque army of minions. Either way, you won’t be able to resist this collection of amigurumi minions.

amigurumi minions

This set of nine minions was handmade by crochet artist Komang Darmiani, and they’re just waiting to be placed on your desk for family, friends or co-workers to ogle and grope. Each one is made from acrylic yarn and measures just under 3″ tall.

amigurumi minions 2

The full set will set you back $99.90(USD) – or just over $11 a minion – not too bad for your own highly-obedient cubicle army, I say.
