The ATV that Could Save You and Me

Amongst others, Honda has always been at the forefront of autonomous and all-electric vehicles. The showcase of their all-electric, four-wheel drive ATV 3E-D18 with airless tires (gasp) is undoubtedly setting a firm tone at CES. Honda introduced its new 3E (Empower, Experience, Empathy) Robotics Concept at CES 2018, demonstrating a range of experimental technologies engineered to understand people’s needs and make their lives better and the 3E-D18 is certainly built for that.

Designed to withstand the ultimate bashing, this ATV can do all sorts of jobs, especially with the help of Honda’s built-in advanced artificial intelligence. Intended for search and rescue missions, the 3E-D18 robotic device has the potential to minimize human exposure to dangerous environments and can perform time-consuming chores or mundane tasks. With a vast range of attachments, this ATV can be transformed from people carrier to natural disaster ready in a matter of minutes.

Roads Not Required

HOLY MAN-GROWL! This is what happens when a tank and an ATV have a baby. Introducing, the Tinger Track C500. This ironclad bad boy might be small enough to fit inside a transit van, but that won’t keep it from tackling the tundra, sand dunes, or even wild rivers. Now, if only I could take it on the streets of L.A.!

Fit with dual 500mm armored tracks, it’s perhaps the most versatile vehicle for farm, field or forest work. Of course, it’s also highly appropriate for pure off-road FUN! The powerful engines (57hp and 68hp variants) are the driving force behind the strength and temperament of the C500 giving the vehicle a towing capacity of 800 kg. Now, it’s not a matter of choosing the best route… only which direction you want to go.

This Alligator Is Way Cooler Than You

Have you seen this alligator? Because he is awesome. Rambo the alligator is a badass and looks like he is straight out of Diddy Kong Racing. He’s like the Daryl Dixon of Florida – all he really needs is a slightly emo haircut and a crossbow. If the zombie apocalypse ever comes, this gator will roam the streets on his ATV while wearing his jacket and sunglasses and just f*ck sh*t up.

Sadly, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission wanted to take Rambo from his loving home. The commission thought the gator needed more space to roam. A compromise has been reached that will allow Rambo to continue leading his badass life. It appears his owner simply can’t show him off in public any more. Rambo will just have to be a badass in private now.

I think no publicity for Rambo is a good idea. If more gators realize they can get jackets and ride ATVs, we’re doomed.

Give Your Mule a Break

arriero_01

Inspired by the arriero who transports coffee in the Columbian countryside usually with the assistance of a pack animal, this all-terrain vehicle aims to improve efficiency and easy difficulty on the rough trails and paths. Each wheel contains an independently operating motor, leaving the main framework to support load baring. The double suspension of each wheel means the pack stays in place despite the terrain. Segmented and minimized to only the necessary components, parts are easily replaced in areas where mechanics and automotive specialists may not be readily available.

The HexHog Is The Ultimate Offroad Wheelchair

hexhog_atv_wheelchair_1

If you’re going to venture off road, with a typical ATV, you’re usually going to need your limbs in full functional order to toggle clutches and foot brake levers. But those of us with limited mobility would still like to explore the great outdoors, so the HexHog was created to accommodate them. It’s a six-wheeled, battery-powered all terrain vehicle that is as adapted to disabled use, as it is badass. With a range of 12mi. and a top speed of 8.5mph, the HexHog isn’t going to win any races, but that’s not its point.

– A patented flexing chassis providing stability superior to an ATV without needing to actively lean or ride. The chassis mechanism will ensure all six wheels maintain contact when traversing rough terrain, rocks and steep steps while minimising seat movement for a comfortable ride in the most extreme environments.

– Lithium-ion battery power plant, meaning no vibration, fumes or noise from engines with a long range, in addition to providing a fast charge of less than 2 hours.

– A seat transfer system, which advances and lowers the driving seat to a position for independent transfer from a wheelchair.

– All-wheel drive providing maximum off-road traction. The sealed 6×6 transmission and raised drive motors in conjunction with the flexing chassis will allow the HexHog to tread water, travel through mud bogs, and cross snow or sand without harm or reduction in performance.

– Electronic drive architecture, giving maximum independence to wheelchair users with varying abilities. The HexHog employs the latest control architecture, with a programmable joystick allowing safe operation on steep slopes and rough terrain. Bespoke adjustments can be made to suit all driving styles and safe operation with reduced dexterity or upper limb movement.

We don’t know how much it costs and we can just imagine it’s not cheap, but the point is that such technology does exist and can bring joy in someone otherwise already challenging life.

ATV Awesomeness

We usually consider ATV’s to be testosterone-fueled tuff stuff, and this quad is no exception, but you might find its aesthetic inspiration surprisingly soft! The Shiva was designed with… wait for it… seriously, take a breath… DANCING in mind! And not just any dancing, but ribbon dancing. Before you start giggling, check out its fierce fairings, aggressive aerodynamic shape and sporty paint job. It might come from a tender place, but the result is a mean-looking modern machine.

Polaris Sportsman ATV Will Never Get a Flat

If you’ve ever had a flat tire on your motorcycle, scooter, or ATV, you know how helpless you can feel. Stuck in the middle of nowhere, with no help coming, especially if you’re stuck somewhere without cell service. This can mean a trek back to civilization, or waiting for some help. This will never happen with this ATV.

The Polaris Sportsman WV850 HO ATV will stand up to any punishment you feel fit to deal upon it. It’s built to military specifications, and features the industry’s first non-pneumatic tires, which will never get flats, tear, rip or puncture. They can actually stand up to a .50-calibre round and still work for another 350 miles.

It comes equipped with a steel exoskeleton, racks, a large towing capacity, and powered by a 77 hp engine.

All this military technology doesn’t come cheap, as you’ll have to fork over at least $14,999(USD) to get yours. Think about how much money you’ll save on flats. Ok, it’s probably not that much, but this thing is still pretty damned impressive.

Apple TV update adds Yahoo Screen and PBS apps

Yahoo's been working hard to include support for Apple services in its Screen iOS app, now it's gone one better and launched its video-discovery app on Apple TV. With an emphasis on comedy, Yahoo Screen has been designed to collate the best of web video, including clips from Saturday Night Live, The Colbert Report, and The Daily Show, as well as live news, events and music. You'll also be able to browse trending videos and watch Yahoo Originals programming, which are delivered direct to your Apple TV without the need to AirPlay them across. AllThingsD reports that PBS has also quietly pushed a new app, letting users get their Nova, Frontline or Antiques Roadshow fix (older episodes of Downton Abbey will be available shortly after PBS begins re-airing seasons early next year). Today's update may only available to US users but Apple isn't being shy about broadening the number of Apple TV apps available across the globe.

Grizzly robot EV shrugs off difficult terrain, laughs at heavy loads

Grizzly robot EV laughs at your puny Earth terrain

Like its namesake, Clearpath Robotic's Grizzly is most comfortable in the wild. Sure, this unmanned ATV is perfectly capable of handling paved streets. But the 26-inch wheels and eight-inches of ground clearance are really built for offroad excursions. The 80-horsepower all-electric motor is capable of reaching speeds of 11 mph and of towing loads over 1,300 pounds. In short, this thing is beast. Clearpath suggests the bot would excel at agricultural tasks, but it seems to us that plowing fields would be a waste of Grizzly's skills. Unless, of course, those fields happened to be on another planet. To see this mobile monster in action check out the gallery below and the video after the break.
