GTA IV RoboCop ED-209 Mod: You Have 20 Seconds to Install…

When I was growing up, my parents let me watch pretty much any movie I wanted when it came out on VHS. One of my favorites was RoboCop. Something about a cyborg robot with a gun that came out of his thigh was very appealing to my younger self. I’ve tried to watch the original films now that I am an adult, and they are so cheesy it hurts.

If you are a fan of GTA IV and RoboCop of the ’80s, JulioNIB has made a mod that you will want to check out. The mod brings ED-209 from the first RoboCop film to the virtual streets of GTA IV. ED-209 isn’t there to stop you from rampaging in the game. In fact, you can use the robot as a bodyguard.

Better yet, you can take direct control of the robot and use it to spray hot metal death at the citizens of New Detroit Liberty City. I always though ED-209 looked like a walking microphone, and the virtual creation looks just like the one from the film.

Check out the videos to see the mod in action.

Homemade ED-209: You Have 20 Seconds to Comply

Shawn Thorsson built himself a life-sized ED-209 for this year’s Maker Faire. It is awesome and scary. But not too scary. You gotta handle ED-209 just like you would a Dalek. Just run up some stairs as quick as you can. They can’t handle stairs at all.

The detail on this beast is pretty impressive. It even has all kinds of warning labels and some literal Easter eggs. Yes, the warheads on the rockets are really Easter eggs. He built it in 96 days. Given the amount of detail he put into this, that is pretty amazing.

Now we just need a life-size Robocop to go up against it.

Cardboard Robots: Paper Beats Metal

I’ve seen my share of sci-fi movies and I know how giant robots can be pretty imposing. But these robots made from cut cardboard look like they couldn’t really do any damage – even the deadly, but tragically-flawed ED-209 from Robocop.

These awesome little cardboard robots were made by Etsy artist Cardboard Myth, and they’re the perfect thing for your desktop toy collection, don’cha think? I sure do. In addition to ED-209, you can find a Gundam-style mech, as well as a couple of totally original creations.

What’s really impressive about these robots is that they all offer articulated limbs, so you can position them like plastic action figures.

Just be careful not to get them wet, and definitely keep them away from open flames. Paper robots hate fire.

You can start building your own cardboard robot army over at Cardboard Myth’s Etsy shop, where these each sell for about $34(USD).

Full-Size Robocop ED-209 for Sale: Only $25K

Would you like to own this massive ED-209 replica? Your move punk. Some guy is selling it on eBay for $25,000(USD). Hopefully you don’t live in Detroit or your purchase will be killed by Robocop.

According to the seller, this ED-209 model was made for Robocop 2 and may have been used as a stand-in for the robot during production or created as a marketing piece to promote the movie. This beast stands at over 10-feet-tall on two hind legs built with pneumatic cylinders.

As of this writing it is still available. Go ahead and make an offer, but don’t be that guy who says, “I’d buy that for a dollar.” You need $24,999 more than that. And ED-209 doesn’t do well on stairs. He’s probably best in a one story home.
