The Chambong is A Shotgun Glass For Champagne

chambong_041015_01-590x332

Champagne is classy. Drinking your alcohol shotgun style, not so much. So the Chambong is a wonderful hybrid between class and crass, letting you swig your fancy French bubbly through a thick glass straw on one end of this weird V-shaped drinking vessel. The other end is shaped like a traditional Champagne flute, so your guests will know you’re at least partly well mannered. The Chambong lets you chug the wine, looks easy enough to fill and operate, but completely fails at being able to be put down on a table without issue. Like, do you just lay it on its side? Anyway, it’s $25, and less if you buy more. It’s being billed as a “collector’s item”, but, yeah… we wouldn’t pay too much attention to that.

Cup Of Wine On The Beach? Unthinkable Until You Get ‘The Beach Glass’

this-beach-glasses-float-in-the-water-and-can-stand-up-on-the-sand-0

All roads lead to Rome, and it’s true that you can choose to get drunk any way you want; in the end you’re just as drunk. But there’s a certain appearance of class that comes with drinking wine out of a wine glass. Good luck projecting that “sophisticated” image while on the beach tough, unless of course you get yourself a Beach Glass. It’s all “Wine cup up top, and bloody spike at the bottom” so that all you have to do to keep your drink upright is to stab it in the sand. It’s a simple design, and with summer in full swing we suspect it’ll be popular with the beach bums among you. Of course, if it works in the sand, it’ll work in other surfaces like snow, grass, dirt, or anything that can get stabbed. It’s $10.50 for one.

Wine Glass With Straw: A Sippy Cup For Adults

wine-glass-with-straw-595x607

They’re selling these Oenophilia Porto Sippers with an integrated straw as being better for ports and liqueurs, allowing “your hand to warm the spirits as you sip through the stem.” But let’s not kid anyone: there’s something childishly cool about getting hammered by drinking alcohol through a straw; these are sippy cups for adults. And since it’s a “wine glass”, you can totally pretend you’re being classy. A set of 4 will set you back $40.

Mt. Hood Pint Glass Is Classy, Because Oregon

oregon-pint-glass

Look, if no one had told us that this pint glass has a perfect replica of Oregon’s highest peak, Mt. Hood, molded in its base, we probably would have never noticed. But now that we have, we think it’s kind of neat. Made by North Drinkware in Portland, Oregon (where else?), this pint is an American-made, custom blown 16 oz. glass.

Using United States Geological Survey (USGS) data (depicting ridges, canyons, and peak) a 3D model of Mt. Hood is integrated into the mold so your beer cascades around the mountain when you pour it into the glass. The Oregon Pint delivers a connection to the mountains that surround us, and the satisfying experience of drinking a local crafted beer out of a local crafted glass – all made here in Oregon.

We suppose this will be particularly popular to Oregonians, though it has a certain artistic appeal beyond that state’s borders. We can’t imagine that it’s all Portlanders who ordered $160,000 worth of glasses (as of this writing), at $35 a pop. It’s on Kickstarter with the funding goal well in the rearview mirror, so head on over and pre-order your own if that’s your thing.

The Planetary Glass Set Is A Great Way To Teach The Kids About The Solar System

2033_planetary_glass_set

The Holidays seem to start earlier every year, don’t they? But yes, it’s apparently time to start thinking about what to buy your loved ones, and what better to do so than by getting your own family a cool set of Planetary Glasses. Sure, if you’ve got young kids, they may not get the same kind of kick out of these as they might from a brand new tablet [inserting token sad commentary about living in a time where small children are gifted tablets], but once they get used to them they’ll actually learn something about our universe. It’s a set of 10 glasses, each made to look like a planet… and yes, apparently Pluto made the cut, although it’s smaller than the others. The Sun is there too, of course, and that one’s a little bigger than the rest. The set will set you back $50, and we think it’s worth every penny.

Whisky Wedge Perfects The Drinking Experience

whiskey_wedge_1

When drinking whisky, you want to chill your liquor as much as possible, while diluting it as little as possible. There are many ways to accomplish this, from using chilled metal pucks to shaping your ice into a giant ball. You can now add the Whisky Wedge to that list. It’s a combination tumbler and silicone mold that shape your ice into a wedge that perfectly fits the glass. This way your liquor rests against an inclined surface of ice, but not more, preventing the melting of too large a volume of water and the diluting of your drink. It also looks kind of slick. It’s $15 and comes with the glass and the mold.

Two in Wine

Ever wonder why there are different glasses for different wines? The idea is that each wine deserves its own type of glass to enhance its unique flavor, aroma and color. It’s an often overlooked part of the experience that every vino-enthusiast has come to appreciate. Inspired by this concept, the Doublet incorporates not one, but two of the more common types into one beautiful, seamless, stemless piece. Even if you’re not a wine snob, you can clear out some cabinet space with this artistic two-in-one alternative!

Google now inviting developers to buy Glass

Google Glass invitation for developers

Now that Google has offered a preview of Glass' SDK and opened the Mirror API to all developers, it has a strong incentive to get its eyewear in the hands of app writers. Accordingly, the crew in Mountain View is now inviting developers to buy Glass' Explorer Edition; you'll find one such invitation pictured above. We've asked Google about the scale of the expanded Explorer program, and we'll let you know if it can provide more details. Whether or not it can, the widened reach is good news for Glassware producers eager to test their code on real devices.
