McDonald’s iconic Happy Meal could be replaced by this greener, prettier, and ‘Happier Meal’ concept!

The forest-themed meal box incorporates all of McDonald’s iconic branding and design values but with a fairytale-ish twist!

There’s a lot to be said for the amount of heat Mcdonald’s has gotten in the past few years for their non-sustainable practices. Although, we can deem this heat fruitful because the fast-food giant says it is attempting to make its Happy Meals greener! They intend to upgrade their packaging and make Happy Meal toys with recycled plastic or plastic sourced from renewable materials. But the fact of the matter remains that neither of these materials is really biodegradable. So, Malaysian designer Regina Lim decided to take matters into her own hand! She redesigned a ‘Happier Meal’ – one that is free of plastic, created from sustainable materials, and full of beautiful illustrations!

The entire box is inspired by the forests of East Malaysia where Lim grew up. “My parents took me out into nature as a child, and I thought it was important to teach the next generation to appreciate these spaces, which are dying off,” says Lim. “But I think it’s possible to teach kids about sustainability in a fun way.” The pack is adorned with magical depictions of flora, fauna, and McDonalds’ food products! The outer protective sleeve and the inner box are printed on a single sheet of paper, which is then folded artfully like Origami. This also transforms into an interesting infographic that shows us how seeds grow into trees – making the storytelling element a complete delight for kids!

The usual plastic Happy Meal toys are replaced by wooden sculptures of trees, and little 3D cardboard cutouts of animals – an elephant, zebra, and giraffe. Lim’s reimagined design omits a few of the design flaws that the original Happy Meal possesses. She says there is more space in the box to now accommodate fries, nuggets, a drink, toys, and other items. In fact, if you’ve noticed McDonald’s Happy Meal box cannot hold a drink. Our drink of choice is often provided to us in a drink holder, or another bag altogether. But Lim’s Happier Meal can store our favorite soda for us. In fact, the revamped meal box is even AR-enabled! You can scan the QR code on the box to kickstart an educational AR feature, which brings this mystical forest to life. This helps make the design more timeless instead of the usual ‘use and throw’ approach currently used.

Lim hopes that her inspirational prototype can encourage major companies like Mcdonald’s to “make small changes, (as) it can make a big difference because of the impact and influence they have.” Will McDonald’s be on board with this greener and prettier version of their beloved Happy Meal? Time will tell. Although, it is high time for a fresh change, and I’m sure everyone will be “lovin’ it”.

‘Adventure Time’ Happy Meal Toys Are For the Adventurous

Adventure Time

Toys in McDonald’s Happy Meals don’t really catch my eye–until now. Not that I’m part of their target demographic or anything, because I’m no longer a kid, but I think it’s a win on their end if their offerings manage to catch the attention of twenty-somethings. This time around, it’s their series of toys featuring Finn and Jake from Adventure Time.

Aside from the two main characters, you’ll also find BMO and the Ice King thrown into the mix. These were made available starting January 17th.

McDonald’s Adventure Time Happy Meal Toys Are Almost Here

So how do you get customers to not only eat your questionable mystery meat products with a side of fries and come back for more? If you are McDonald’s, the key is to offer kick-ass toys. Many people will normally choose a healthier meal, but give them an awesome toy and they will wolf down whatever swill you are serving. I say, serve me up whatever you want, but just make sure you give me that BMO figure and I’m good. Cool?

A line of Adventure Time toys are coming to McDonald’s Happy Meals starting January 17th. Mathematical! These are the ones. There’s bendy versions of Jake and Finn, a channel-changing BMO, sword-swinging Finn, spring-action Jake, and ice-blast shooting Ice King.

Gotta get ‘em all. They should have no problem selling cheeseburgers and fries this month. In fact, I’m just gonna go claim my own table and live there for awhile. While I wait, I’m going to kill some time coloring:

McDonald’s Happy Meals in Japan are All About Super Mario

McDonalds Mario Happy Meal

Happy Meals are truly happy in Japan.

While McDonald’s stores in the US are all about NFL-themed toys, the ones in Japan right now are particularly super as they feature none other than Super Mario. They’re doing it as a way to celebrate one of Nintendo’s most well-known franchise. In a way, it’s also celebrating Nintendo as a video game company, as they’ve been making games (and making the lives of the people who play them a lot more fun) since 1889.

The toys feature Mario in various costumes and positions, and include figures of the Princess and Yoshi, too. But what about Luigi?

Super Mario Happy Meal Toys from Mcdonald’s Japan: You Deserve a Break Today

Man, I am so sick of Japan getting all of the cool stuff and us Americans getting not so cool stuff. Like this. This is the line of Super Mario toys that McDonald’s will be giving away in Japan’s Happy Meals. What are we going to get in the US? Probably some Barbie toy or something. It’s just not fair. Why does God love Japan so much more?

All of these Mario toys either play music or perform an action (described in the badly Google translated text above), which is all the more reason to be sad. They are not just figures that stand there doing nothing.

The toys will be given away in Happy Meals starting on November 22nd, and are expected to run out in about three weeks. I don’t know about you, but I’m looking up the price of airline tickets to Japan. Holy Hogwarts! Have you seen those prices? I’m just going to play with my crappy American toys and save myself a couple thousand bucks.

Blitz Box is Sort Of Like a Happy Meal for Adults

Adult Happy Meal

McDonald’s is trying to lure adults in with the promise of a freebie and a big box of not-so-healthy but oh-so-delicious fast food. It’s called the Blitz Box, and it’s currently being tested out in Kansas City, Missouri. Each box contains 2 Quarter Pounders with Cheese, 20 piece Chicken McNuggets (yes, you read that right, 20!), and 2 medium-sized fries. It’s also being offered with a free Chiefs car flag with every purchase. I guess that’s the adult equivalent of a Happy Meal toy until McDonald’s can find something more suitable to hand out.

It’s calorie-filled and will clog your arteries, but I don’t think that’ll stop people from actually wanting to buying it. What do you think?
