A Speaker that Speaks to Your Emotions

혹시나

Introducing, artificial emotional intelligence. That’s the name of the game for the Laier speaker. Over time, it learns you and your music tastes and how what you play relates to your mood.

It’s designed to distinguish between music types, rhythms, and to pick up on the subtle nuances that make a song happy, sad, fun, or mad. Then, it reflects associated colors and patterns of light on its 4 semitransparent layers to further enhance the mood!

Can a phone-case save your life?

walkie_talkie_case_1

The short answer is… yes it can. The long answer is, while phone cases don’t do much except for accident-proofing your gadget, or occasionally giving it a boost of battery power, it is capable of much more… even of saving a life. Modeled on the classic Realtone walkie-talkie from the 70s, the rugged Walkie-Talkie iPhone case concept by Sejung Oh and PDF Haus does something rather nifty. Not only does it protect the phone from falls, and also supplies it with additional power (via an extra battery within the case), it allows wireless radio-communication in times of distress. Built with an extra lithium-ion battery and a pretty large antenna above it, it allows for communication even when your phone’s carrier signal fails you. It does this by boosting the phone’s Bluetooth signal to cover larger distances, not only allowing you to broadcast audio signals, but even sending text-messages and sharing locations. Moreover, the case, like the iPhone 7 (for which it’s designed) is water-proof, insinuating that it may just be the ideal case for remote-traveling. Imagine being able to send out an SOS message or broadcast when comms are down. Lifesaver, isn’t it?

This Kodak concept cam just might revitalize the disposable camera we used as kids. Not just because it has a cooler pill shape, textured shell, and attractive packaging (those are just bonuses), but because it features FILTERS! Apply your favorites from a selection of city-inspired hues before having your film developed the old-school way!

An Attractive TV, for Once.

teleavia_cover

Nothing, and I mean nothing, will kill the vibe of your interior faster than a TV. You’ve painstakingly curated your home with fine furniture, finishes and artistic details only to plop down a clunky electronic device that negates all your hard work! Unless, of course, you’ve mastered modern minimalism and integrated a flat-screen seamlessly into your wall only to reveal itself when it’s time to watch… but I’m guessing that’s not you (and it’s certainly not me).

For the majority of us who tend to mix traditional and vintage with modern, Teleavia Retro is the answer! It’s perhaps the first flat-screen television to invoke retro inspiration. It’s subtly vintage looking but not in a cheesy way. You get the benefit of the space-saving flat screen and modern features with the charm of a tube TV. DO want!

A Classic Yet Class-apart Camera

instamatic_000

Kodak-heads should love this one. While most people prefer strapping VR headsets to their head, the Kodak Instamatic Redesign concept aims at replacing future tech with nostalgia tech.

Given a sleek makeover, the Kodak Pocket Instamatic, an iconic camera from the 70s still retains the 36 exposure film format, making it brand new, yet familiar at the same time. The design of the Instamatic body ditches the old plastic construction for something much more relevant and premium. The sleek, anodized metal finish makes it look way classier than the funky, colorful plastic Instax© series by rival company Fujifilm. One detail that really resonated with us is the outline on the front face. The fact that it ditches the rectangle silhouette for an outline that grows wider around the lens and the viewfinder and narrower in the middle gives it the appearance of an extended pair of eyes, which just makes so much sense!

Redbull energizes cars now!

redbull_car_charger_1

Aside from giving you wings, Redbull attempts to give your car wings of its own too! The RedBull conceptual car charger is an absolute home-run for the brand and a pretty neat way to usher in the age of electric car charging. The charging station by RedBull mirrors the look of the classic energy-drink can with its memorable logo and iconic color scheme, allowing it to be recognized from a distance.

The move towards car charging would be a brilliant one, if RedBull were to take it up. They’re invested in a large way in all sorts of high-adrenaline sports, including the Formula 1 races. They’re no stranger to automobiles, and their brand is synonymous with instant energy. So, why not, I say!!

A Different Direction for Braun

braun_00

What looks like a speaker, works like an air purifier and is made by a hair care product company?! The answer is the Braun Air Solution. From a Mercedes coffee maker to a Bose air conditioner, the designers at PDF Haus love an unexpected brand crossover!

This time, they apply the design language of Braun (normally known for grooming tools) to an indoor air purifier. The result is a distinctive design, minimal in form with straightforward functionality, much like other Braun products. A bit schizophrenic with that whole speaker look, sure… but an interesting attempt at expanding the brand!

The perfect surveillance camera for your home, the Vader cam is sure to deter criminals! Just the perfect cross between playful yet powerful, this adorable little Sith lord records video footage of your home. Just the kind of thing we could expect from the guys at PDF Haus!

PDF Haus has carved their niche in something I call design fusion. They take two concepts (in this case Darth Vader and Surveillance tech) and merge them together to see what kind of awesome product could arise from an unlikely combination.

Like the ones before, the Vader cam gets my thumbs up too!
