Jazzing Up For Pure Water

Designed to be a portable solar powered water treatment system, the Parabosol uses parabolic mirrors that boils water to a temperature of up to 400 Celsius. This system also integrates sand and carbon flirtation processes to game, thus making drinking water as safe as possible. Approximately 1 billion people globally don’t have access to potable water and the tragedy of losing population to water-borne diseases is quite sad. Using solar power to create a viable filtration system that can be used in remote areas is quite cool.

Details:

  • The system purifies water by using additional filtration, which is done by sand filter and by carbon filter.
  • First, the sand filter catches the sand particles and then the carbon filter is used to remove odor and dissolved gases from water.
  • Between the two filtrations, the sand filtered water collected in water container within a focused parabolic mirror where purification is made.
  • Steam coming from the tank behind parabolic mirror condensate in bronze spine placed above carbon filter.
  • The system consists of one contaminated water container, one purification container and two clean water containers.
  • Parabosol can clean up to 170 liters of water in a single use.

Safer With The City Firefly

Designed as a bicycle chain lock system, the City Firefly doubles up as a safety gear for cyclists. Blending fashion with functionality is clever and what makes this concept stand out is the ease with which one can move from one space to the other. According to the designers, the concept was “inspired by fireflies, which use their flashing lights to signal and warn of danger in a beautiful way.”

Vapor Bath

The Vapo hopes to bridge the gap between lathering up with suds to washing them out. We tend to let the shower run even when we are soaping up and this is mainly because we want to feel the warm spray whist we lather. Its blatant waste of water, but we do it! No excuses mister! The Vapo provides vapor (or a warm mist) to keep us warm and damp, thus reducing the amount of water used in a single shower. Super excellent I tell ya!

Little LEGO Windmills

Inspired by the building blocks and modularity of LEGOs, the Windflock is a wind-energy system that is flexible. The ‘add-on’ system is made of mini windmills and can be hooked up with each other. The cool quotient is upped by the fact that when connected, the mini windmills resemble a 3D crystal composition.

The Windflock is a 2014 Red Dot Awards: Design Concept winner.

This Way Out

The ‘Way Out Light’ is a fire alarm and sprinkler system that activates the lighting for the emergency exit route in the event of a fire evacuation. The purpose of the system is to contain the spread of fire, illuminate the pathway to the nearest exit and keep people away from danger. Since it’s all tightly integrated, it looks to be a foolproof system.

The Flow of Fresh Flowers

Air fresheners and purification devices need not be ugly blobs that we are embarrassed to showcase. They can be as sleek as the Lotus Flow, which is the combination of an air purifier and lights. The petals of the surreal flower are made from electroluminescent fabric with a hydrophobic coating that helps draw in dust and pollutants into the core section. This is where the air purification happens. Overall a brilliant design, I’d love to see how far we could take this 2014 Electrolux Design Lab entry.

Details:

  • The inner core features a filtration system containing activated carbon and HEPA filter to help absorb dust and micro pollutants.
  • It also, utilizes UV light to help kill bacteria and houses a negative air ionizer to produce fresh clean air.
  • Unfiltered air is pulled into the inner core by the fan; filtered, sterilized and then fresh, clean air is released back into the room.
  • The device also constantly checks the air quality of the room working in response to its environment and the room’s occupants.
  • It can also be connected to a home network and smart devices which allows the user to keep track of the air quality of the room, how well it is cleaning, whether parts need replacing and also control its dynamic lighting effects.

Refrigerators Are Now Food Conservation Systems

They say words have power – for example don’t call it a bowl of veggies, call it a bowl of stir-fried exotic vegetables with tangy sauce, dollops of butter and a dash of crushed pepper to spice it up. Salivating? Likewise, new-age refrigerators are Intelligent Food Conservation Systems with a dash of Innovation. The Izotz is one such appliance that has some interesting features – read on to know more.

The Izotz is mounted on the kitchen wall and sits half inside and half outside. The appliance is such that it takes advantage of the outside temperature and adapts to it. For example, during winters it takes advantage of the cold temperature outside to sustain the internal cooling of the fridge and thus lower electricity costs. And during summer it takes advantage of the solar energy to power the fridge.

The appliance even sports an herb bed that breaks down their internal cellulose, an organic compound, which Izotz later converts into a biopolymer. When we store some food inside the system, it gets coated with the biopolymer, which in turn vacuum seals it to retain freshness. This layer can be easily removed and is recycled by Izotz. This project is one of the shortlisted Top 35 Electrolux Design Lab Competition entry for 2014.

The Forest Fire Alarm

The Forest Wizard is a device that is designed to prevent the forest fire from spreading out rapidly. It has a three-goal system that allows the firefighters to detect the source and the direction of the fire in a speedy manner. The accompanying video explains the system and makes us understand how it can become a path-breaking technology for the future. Have a look….
