Thanko USB Air Purifier Removes the Stench from Your Cubicle

If you’re one of those people that are concerned about the quality of the air you breathe when indoors, Thanko has a new USB-powered air purifier to keep things fresh. The air purifier plugs into the USB port on your computer and slurps up the bad air, filters it, and then spits it back out for you to breathe. The purifier also promises to remove odors.

The device uses a six-layer filter element that can trap particles in the air as small as 0.3 micrometers. To remove smells from the area, the gadget has an integrated ionizer. This USB-powered purifier also has a UV light to help kill any germs and bacteria floating in the air around you.

That means it might help you stave off the flu the guy in the cubicle next to you brought to work. UV light has been used in a hospital settings for years to kill airborne germs and bacteria, and it actually works.

The air purifier sells for ¥5,980 (~$64 USD) and I’ll assume if you live in the US and need one of these, shipping will be very expensive since Thanko is located in Japan.

USB Misting Hairbrush

usb misting hairbrush USB Misting Hairbrush
When you’re sitting at your computer, there’s nothing and I mean nothing you need more than a damp brush to smooth out your frizzy ‘fro. But what could possibly power such a handy contraption? Why USB power of course. Just fill up the reservoir, plug it in to your computer and start looking damn good if I don’t say so myself.

One USB charge gets you 30 minutes of fine misting action. If you need more than that, then you’re probably having a really bad hair day. Now who do we have to thank for this? Why it’s our old friend and purveyor of bizarre Japanese gadgets Thanko. Thank you Thanko. Thank you India. Thank you terror. Thank you disillusionment. Thank you frailty. Wooah sorry, was channeling Alanis there for a minute. That’s more ironic than rain on your wedding day. Now check out the action misting video.

You can actually buy this hairbrush for about $80 here (but why would you?) (via)

Thanko USB-Powered Misting Hairbrush Untangles Unruly Locks

At first glance, I was all prepared to make fun of Thanko’s latest USB-powered product, then I realized it’s genius. If you don’t understand how useful a brush that blows a mist in your hair could be, you obviously don’t have a stubborn eight-year-old girl at home. Apparently, in eight-year-old girl land having parents spray detangler in your hair is about the worst thing that can possibly happen at 6 o’clock in the morning.

I remain convinced that when the sock gnomes get tired of running off with my socks, they spend time rubbing balloons in my daughter’s hair as she sleeps. I’m saying the knots she has in her hair each morning would leave a grizzled sailor scratching his head. Since I’m now banned from using the scissors to remove those knots, this brush might be the perfect solution.

The brush has a battery inside that is charged by a USB port. That battery slurps water out of a tiny plastic container inside the brush head and sprays a mist on your hair as you brush it. While the idea is to use water to hydrate your hair, I think it might work perfectly to create a continuous mist of hair detangler. That plastic container holds 15 mL of fluid and the battery holds the power to spray for two and half hours.

Regardless of what you think of it, it’s infinitely more useful than that USB powered butt chiller Thanko also offers.

Thanko Wearable Mouse: Minor Minority Report

With TVs getting smarter and computers getting smaller, Internet-connected TVs and home theaters will only become more common. So will peripherals designed to be used for couch computing, like this wireless glove mouse from Thanko.

thanko wearable gesture mouse

This silly gadget lets you control a cursor with the movements of your wrist. Two buttons worn on the index finger substitute for the left and right mouse buttons. I know, it looks like a prop from 90′s sci-fi B-movie, but it actually works:

Thanko is selling the wearable mouse for ¥4,980 (~$62 USD). Although the video makes it seem like a fairly useful product, I think the best way to control smart TVs would be to leverage tablets and smartphones with a keyboard/trackpad app. I think using something like this one would be tiring after a while.

Beat the Summer Heat with Thanko’s Solar-Powered Cap Fan

No thanks to global warming, the weather on this side of the world has been pretty crazy. It could be extremely hot and sunny one moment, and raining cats and dogs the next. Now this cap with an embedded solar-powered fan might not be totally all-weather, but it comes pretty close. It protects your mug from the harmful UV rays of the run while making good use of all that solar energy to power up the fan at the top of the cap.

Solar Powered Fan Cap

It’s available in four colors: black, red, yellow, and blue. So it might not be able to cool you down as much as you’d like it to, given that the fan will probably be blowing air towards your forehead area. But that’s definitely better than nothing, right?

The cap-slash-fan is available from Thanko Japan for ¥1,260 (~$16 USD.)
